    Thanks for providing this walk through video. Your video might be the only source of help for replacing the transmission filter on my 2005 V6 Honda Accord Hybrid. Sometimes I like to watch a TH-cam video of a mechanic that does a procedure routinely, many times and thus, does it very quickly. I would like to watch a video of a skilled mechanic getting this job done in 20 minutes instead of 54 minutes. That is my only complaint. But, I still appreciate you providing this walk through with some explanation of what your doing and how you are dong it. You are a DIY, just like me, learning how to do this particular maintenance procedure. Thanks.

    What I use on Honda transmissions to fill through the dipstick hole. The long black transmission fluid funnel fits snugly over the outside of the tube just push it down about 1/4 inch and it works awesome and no leaks. You can fill a lot faster and no mess.

    Great detailed video. I have a 2001 Accord V6 but unfortunately no filter to change like the 2003. I have a slight bump or slight hard shift from 1 to 2nd gear on my automatic trans.
    Honda just doesn’t make good transmission. A person can do regular drain and fills with Honda oil Dx1 and still will have transmission issues at some point.

    I pulled an ATF filter in a 2004 Acura with 160K at 19 years old. Inside the banjo bolt shaft were orange plastic chips from the totally deteriorated filter. Chip and picked those out. Based on the color of the ATF, really dark, and the force I had to use to break the AT drain bolt and filler bolt, I don't think this fluid was ever changed since new. Moved the lines all the way out to the wheel well to get the cap off. Yes a real pain. The filter cap separated from the filter body and stuck to the housing cap. The spring.... Well how do you hold the spring when replacing the filter? There is something in the back of the chamber that barely holds the spring in place and just long enough to get the new filter back into place. If you touch the spring a second time after hanging it, the spring will fall out of position. I've seen people use fishing line or Velcro to hold the spring against the back of the filter before inserting into the chamber. All I know it worked for me. Not too much crud stuck to the magnet on the drain plug. Best video I've seen on changing the ATF and Filter in the 3rd Gen TL and Hondas with the same engine family.

    I have found that Hondas seem to always respond well to Amsoil Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Full Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid because Honda ATF DW-1 is a low-grade transmission fluid. It seemed like the third transmission on my 2001 Odyssey was getting near the end of it's life, doing late hard shifting and early hard shifting. Then I did four drain and fills with Amsoil Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Full Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid, over a six week period, replacing 90% of the transmission fluid. Since then, my Odyssey only does smooth and predictable shifting. It's still running well four year later. So, far, I have done two drain and fills on my 2005 V6 Honda Accord Hybrid and the transmission seems to be very smooth and responsive already. I'm doing the third transmission drain and fill when I replace my Accord Hybrid's transmission filter. Kudos to you for using Amsoil Signature Series.

    @8:58 ... You were talking about cutting that (black) tube (a part of oil jet kit) to install auxiliary / secondary transmission cooler. You DON'T need to cut that. When you trace that tubing, after passing T joint that goes to oil jet, you'll see tubing ends with a hose that connect to transmission inlet (the other end of that hose). So no need to cut the metal tubing whatsoever.
    Visually, search w/o quotes "5 Speed V6 Units Oil Jet Kit" to see what oil jet looks like and to see how things are from the back of the engine

      I have an Innova 6100 OBD2 Tester that if I enter the correct make/model/year, gave me a menu for Acura enhanced OEM failure codes. If you can borrow a good tester it may tell you which switch is faulting. I had a flashing LED next to the D on the shift selector. My failure codes were, one generic for the transmission and one specific for the ATF temperature sensor. After replacing the ATF Temperature Sensor, the codes went away. So the only expense was the $105 sensor plus AT fluid and filter/o-rings.

      That's a tough call. A lot of people don't recommend messing with it if it's never been changed or it's been a really long time. The good thing about a drain and fill on a Honda is you're only changing about 3 quarts of fluid at a time.
      How does the transmission shift and drive? If it seems like a good and solid transmission I would probably start with a drain and fill and if the results are positive continue from there.

    • @jozsefizsak
      @jozsefizsak 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honda recommends draining and filling it at certain intervals. If it hasn't ever been done and you have reached the specified mileage, do it now. There is no magic to worn out fluid that can no longer lubricate and protect the transmission properly, so don't leave it in. Also, only 40% will drain out at one time so you still have mostly old fluid that should not remain too long. Just listen to Honda, except in the case of this filter. Change it even though they don't mention it. A good filter will still disintegrate after many years, as the other videos about this one show. Also, don't try to save a few dollars on the fluid but get Honda's or another one you know to be excellent. Transmissions are not cheap.
