The Sun is positively charged and the plasma is constantly in arc mode discharge. Photosphere is where almost all the fusion, heat and light generation occurs. Electric field of the Sun reaches all the way to heliopause which is negatively charged, electric field accelerates solar wind as it reaches heliopause. Cycles of Sun are driven by galactic birkeland currents going in and out of the poles.

Sun's mass would have to decrease very dramatically for it to get a solid surface. This means it would have to be a lot less massive and less big. This would cause Earth to have no heat or light from the rocky sun.

Wait but if your space ship can go 163 km/s and sun is 149,000,000 kms away it would only take about 1 million seconds to get there
And 1 year is 31 million and 536 thousand seconds
So it would actually take 1/31th of a year to get there
