- Twitter has lost almost half of its advertising revenue since it was bought by Elon Musk last year, its owner has revealed.
Musk said the company had not seen the increase in sales it had expected in June, but added that July was a "bit more promising".
The tech billionaire bought the social media platform for $44bn (£33.6bn) in October 2022.
Rival app Threads now has 150 million users, according to some estimates.

This man is a business genius! He has accomplished what surely no other stable genius could hope to accomplish in such an amazingly short period. Literally halved the revenue of a near infallible and idiot-proof global platform, and he has done it in record time. Less time in fact than it takes for one of his SpaceX rockets to explode.
Tesla stock at 290, almost 3X since purchase of Twitter, which was not as much a "business" purchase than a public service. He's writing code to turn Twitter into a video and banking platform. The Space X first launch of that rocket was clearly a success.
Threads 150 million users already shows how naive people are, and how much people care about their privacy. I dig how Meta is struggling with launching Threads in Europe. That is a GOOD thing, EU, and Europe taking their time, being strict and demanding changes to be able to launch in Europe. This also reveals how different America is from Europe on this matter in terms of vulnerability

Here we see a man who bought a business for a lot more than it is worth. On top of this the business was losing a lot of revenue.
From what has been published in some financial web sites Twitter was worth $15B USD. Musk paid about $44B USD for it. Extremely poor business decision. A normal way of buying a business is to buy it for less than it is worth, unless you have some type of guaranteed idea about how you will make it succeed. Usually there are no guarantees with this type of thing.
Here we see a wealthy man who decided to buy a media business to run it on his own ideology, non realistic sense of values, and his own way of thinking. Does not make sense!
As an engineer and scientist Musk is brilliant. Most highly scientific and scientific visionary people are not great for making business decisions. These types may show to the pubic their ideas are successful and innovative, but behind them they have business and marketing people telling them what to do with their ideas and how to proceed in order to be profitable.

I wanted Elon to do well and focus on the Space arena. This disaster is burning a hole in his pocket and will hurt all of us in the long run. He fucked up.
He cut 80% of operation costs but lost 50% of ad revenue, so he’s probably still ahead or maybe not quite. It’s normal for advertisers to be skittish after such a high profile divisive ownership change. But, with time, as we have seen in the past, advertisers will go where the eyes are. Time will tell and it will make no monetary difference to 99.99% of the worlds population. It’s just another controversial blip on the path of humanity.
