I just stumbled onto these videos a few days ago. I'm brand new to the electribe world and these videos have been nothing short of remarkable in regards to shortening my learning curve. Fantastic, sir.
that was sick. i just got an electribe on the 1st of september. this was the most informative and inspiring tutorial yet. good work. keep them coming please.
Nice! I'm glad you found it helpful. This is one of my oldest videos, and I actually still make tutorials for this machine. I encourage you to see my newest ESX videos, as I still manage to find unknown ways of working. Thank you for watching!
Wow, I thought I knew the ESX inside-out, but I'd never seen the real-time slice altering trick before! Great stuff, coupled with the resampling this'll be a great workaround for the lack of slice-select on the ESX.
hey danieklerr i love your videos and tips, my esx is sitting here next to me it has been unused for over a month now. you have made me use it again greets, an esx lover
hey man, you should look into getting a midi controller capable of sending sysex to the ESX - I'm working on a custom one! For starters being able to control multiple parts filters/rolls/fx sends at once, but secondly - having buttons that perform more complex things such as switching samples/slices like in this video - being able to set which button selects which sample in the list/etc... makes it a bit easier to control than having to scroll with the encoder
its good to see there is still some people out thinking out of the box great vids very informative good work daniel, i have a mx and sx, sx midi to radias doing minimal at 125 bpm any suggestions?
@27luiii Hello and thank you! Without looking at the manual for reference, I believe what you want to do is press (thus lighting up) the "global" button. Then hold "shift" and press pad #15, entering "MIDI utility". The first menu is "MIDI filter", and you can set your MIDI settings there. X is closed and O is open. The letters PCEN stand for, I believe, Program change, Control change, (I can't remember what "E" stands for, lol) and Notes. I hopr this helps :)
hey dude! greats your tutorials! I'm from Argentina and I'm a new in the Esx's world. I have a question, I'm working with a Nord Lead 2 as slave and I don't know how to send program changes to the Nord to change sounds when I select a new song. I read the manual but itsn't clear for me. Can you help me? Thanks a lot!!!
i have a quick question how do i stop the midi goin to the radias from the knobs on the sx i have 2 timbres on radias recieving midi from keyboard parts 1 and 2?
Nice work sounds a bit like a less Hip Hop prefuse 73 :) One question. Is it possible to program the ESX1 sequencer to play a different slice of the slice part back on each step?
To anythiing..... I mean humbly:::: Il ve Worked with early s700 AKAI z, and got. This Esq1, w30... All were great . In. 2008? MPC&s for sure .. welll got one sending sh101.. M'y fave UNDER COMPRESSION still the esx1.. Yes they will design it on. 4x4. . Believe me. Coupled with compression 2 Times. You get it. Trick z are trix. World: work well. Stéphane.
@ 04:47 there's this pingpongloop-effect on the snare which the electribe introduces when performing the slice-feature. I'm curious if one trigger of it at the end of the pattern, would still be audible when switching to the next pattern. If so, then it would make sense to slice up a resampled loop (of the current pattern), and play one slice in the end of the pattern, so a transition to a next pattern would be unique. I will let you know if this works out.
I've commented on a few of your videos already but man I just love these!! I love what we can do with software these days but it's SO exciting to see what can be done with hardware some people sort of over look. I haven't cracked open the guide yet but do you know if it's possible to assign the jog dial to another midi controller and not have to worry about pressing different mode buttons or will the external midi control, if syncable at all, control the dial only under what setting it's at?
@MAESTRODOTZ Hello. I believe what you want to do is press (thus lighting up) the "global" button. Then hold "shift" and press pad #15, entering "MIDI utility". The first menu is "MIDI filter", and you can set your MIDI settings there. X is closed and O is open. The letters PCEN stand for, I believe, Program change, Control change, Exclusive and Notes. Make sure the "C" and "E" are both closed (X), and you will stop knob info from being sent via MIDI.
Good tips. Makes me want to experiment in step edit mode more. A good trick that I have found to make interesting melodic rhythms is to set the arpeggio scale to Aeolia, find a good keyboard part synth sound, add a little sync delay and play around with the ribbon controller and slider. Check out a track I did completely with an esx in song mode on my channel if you like. its my olny post so far.
Another xplicit kill. So, i said i sold mpc, oh yeah, andbefore i had w30, esq1... but yes, this is esX1 the great continuity we wanted. Thanx to prophet daniel k.
@aikighost Hi. It is not possible to program a different slice; choosing slices in real-time and resampling is the key. I am, however, planning on getting back into the ESX tutorial groove soon, and I will be demonstrating how to use the "Last Step", pattern-chain and "Random" functions together to achieve some very interesting results. Keep an eye out! :)
onnolab Hello, again.. I am not sure what is possible with the new ES2. I suspect that there are some menu limitations that will make the process difficult to say the least.. The ESX is unique in that everything is fully accessible from the front panel while the sequencer is running, which makes so many amazing things possible. I hope the new unit has the same functional accessibility, but I don't have high hopes. I will be purchasing one this week, so I will be doing tutorials on it soon. ;)
Thanks, mate! Yeah, the website specs for the ES2 are certainly not too encouraging. It seems to be veering towards mainstream and less experimental compared to the ESX. Well, got to see how the unit and OS updates unfold before I buy anything. Maybe a price drop for the ESX might help me decide ;-)
a great fucking video. thanks again. no one should hord information for themselves. real artists will use it in n original way. so thanks again for putting it out there
Hello.. I do love Igorrr now, although I'm not sure he was making music in 2011? Maybe he was, but my glitch style was more inspired by Venetian Snares and Squarepusher. Thanks for listening. :)
Big thnx, great technique. This technique of switching samples on the fly can be sequenced 'in-time' if you combine your video with this video : watch?v=XFIJuEtbHH0
Nice; I am glad I could help! This video is over a year old, actually, and I have another that expands upon this idea a little more: watch?v=m0456MpbogY&list=PLFAC9AC7500B6FCA0

danieklerr Hi you know they are the effects for oldschool bass and sound please ?
Hello.. I'm not sure what you're saying. Can you ask me in your native language please? If it's a modern language I probably speak it a little.
je recherche les effets pour faire un son typé oldschool

danieklerr voila exactement ! merci mec 👊
Insane that 10 years later this is still relevant (for me at least)! This machine is crazy for what you can do with it
Thank you so much. Honestly, I'm certain this is one of my techniques which the designers of this unit never dreamed of, lol. Thank you for watching!

Excellent video as usual.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing! Gonna bust out my esx and try this and the glitch drums technique you shared.
Excellent!
