For clarification Put a cat in a box with a button that will release poisonous gas in the box. The principle states that the cat is in a state where it is both dead and alive as there is an uncertainty whether the cat hit the button. It is only when you look into the box where you can confirm whether the cat is alive or dead.
If I remember right the principal behind Schrodingers cat if if you place the cat in a box with a glass bottle of poison and close the box two possibilities remain either the bottle broke and the cat is dead or the cat is still alive but you don’t know the answer so both exists at the same time.
