He ain't lying. I recut the edges on all the drums I buy and it makes a HUGE difference.

This is wild. Jeff, you and I sat next to each other on the bus, going down Foster Rd, way back in like 2002 or 3 or 4 or something. We got to talking, and you told me that you were in to working on drums. You talked about bearing edges specifically. I didn't think much of it at the time, but it looks like you were serious about it.
Good to see that you're still passionate about the craft!

Holy cow, I remember that. That's awesome! That's when I started working at Adonis drums. Once I felt good edges, I was hooked. Every time I set a friend up with edges they loved it so I started charging. Been at it ever since. If you're still in portland, come visit the shop!

It's weird that the PDP Centerstage, a step or two lower of a model shows it as a hybrid birch wood on some sites while others just say Poplar wood.

I wonder, why isn't all bearing edges symmetrical 45 degree cut? That seems like the best for any kind of head. What benefit does it offer to have the contact point close to the outer edge? Seems like risk without any reward. Couple of millimeters of extra vibrating diameter doesn't seem significant enough to justify risking some type of head not fitting properly.

The 45 is standard among manufacturers because it takes only one cut on the inside, instead of both inside and out. It's a labor/cost cutting measure.

@@portlanddrums Oh I see. I thought they cut both edges, but the outer edge only with a 1-2mm chamfer

Guys what about replacing the wood hoops with metal on these PDP Concept drums ?

I’ve done that with my 12 and 13. It’s less warm. More focus…. I bought the Gibraltar triple flanged hoops. This is for the batter side only. I like the Tom’s better this way. Wood hoop on the reso, triple flanged on the batter.

I suspect shipping with the heads on, shipping itself, temp changes, storage all play a part..... Anyway, what about the actual re-edging? At least one drum..... ....so I looked st the few other videos on here, and there's nothing on re-edging drums. So how about that sort of content?

Another guys video named, "Do worn bearing edges choke a drum", he does sand the tom shell down on another channel.

They don't design a drum for the head. Those heads should be replaced anyway.
