I really love your tip about acquiring a not so good oil painting to practice cleaning it. That’s what I’m going to do before I attack my good one! When you bring the paintings closer to the camera, the glare of your lights completely blows out what you’re trying to show.

This is great information! I grew up with a heavy smoking parent. It does terrible things to everything. I love the paintings and that you gave them the care they deserved.

Such nice cleaning on the oil paintings. So frustrating when he holds the cleaned "after" cleaning work for a close-up. I have issues with the glare 27:28... from his camera lights. Perhaps if he just tilted the canvas forward, the glare wouldn't wipe out the view so much. Other than this, 'twas a wonderful video. Cudos! You are such a pro!

Thank you for the techniques and solutions. Very well explained! Note for next time - when bringing the paintings close to the camera the lighting glare makes it difficult to see. Maybe a different angle? Maybe a bit further away? Anyway, at the end, we can see they both turned out SO STUNNING! Just gorgeous!

You are a great teacher. Before I watched this, I watched a person advertising his product more often than what to do. I assume you just spray on one coat of the varnish but I am not sure. I bought some painting’s last weekend and they are filthy so wish me luck.❤

Thank you so much and how to clean an oil painting when you brought the painting forward so we could see a close-up, regrettably there was so much glare that we couldn't see it at all. But I know it had to be beautiful, because you said so.

    Prynhawn da (Good Afternoon)
I have been bequeathed a very large oil painting by a well known Filipino Artist. I have seen a similar, by same artist, that sold in auction for $22,000. I know that it was painted in the mid 50’s and is filthy; mostly nicotine staining.
Thank you very much for this enlightening video. When I have a few months or so spare, I shall give it a bash.
Is it absolutely necessary to varnish the painting? I don’t recall it ever being varnished.
Diolch yn fawr (thank you very much).

This is very charming and handy info ! Seems ok if you know the artwork does not have serious value. I think he is assuming you truly know for sure that it's ok to mess with the forever surface of the painting.

Thank you so very much for spelling the product name. I could not find the product on Amazon bc I did not know the brand name is a deliberate misspelling of both words. Anyhow, as far as your question goes, I went to their site to find out bc I don't want to ruin my paintings. The site says, "Regular Kotton Klenser™ is a wonderful material and has successfully cleaned hundreds of paintings, but Kotton Klenser™ as well as any other cleaner can remove the paint if not handled with the utmost care. Some paintings cannot be cleaned without removing some paint with the dirt. Do not over clean." Scary. Thanks for taking one for the team :p

I wouldn't trust anything he's saying. Most common way paintings are damaged...cleaning...specifically over cleaning! Must take your art work to a professionally trained restoration expert which he definitely is not! I'd NEVER use "furniture cleaner"...EVER!! He pads his video with a lot of irrelevant chit chat too! 😖

Based on their style, frames, and the described nail types, the artworks were likely painted between the 1880s and circa 1910.

Hello, I have many oil paintings from a grandparent who has passed, Would you have any suggestions on what to do with them? I have many hanging in my house but there are just too many to keep. They do need some TLC which is why I am watching the video but they are beautiful works of art that I would hate to see continue to sit in an attic (which is where most have been).

    Dude.
One cup of water, add one teaspoon of household ammonia - (adjust the strength as needed - TEST a corner first, and be careful of the browns and greens - they seem the most fragile pigments…)
Soft bristle small paintbrush - and good quality paper towels to wipe up with. Small areas - light agitation with the brush…
Cleans nicotine, removes yellowed varnish - and you will never go back to fiddling around with swabs and ready-made products.
    Varnish carefully when completely cleaned.

  • @Pittypat92
    @Pittypat92 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thank you for the demonstration and helpful product information. I just have to comment on your closing remark that "love is love." That is just not true. There are different types of love: friendship, eros, affection and charity. Friendship is different from the love expressed in a romance which is different from the love we may have for our pets (affection) or relatives which is different from the charitable love we express toward the less fortunate. As all human beings are created in the image of God and God revealed Himself in Christ as the God-Man, one with the Father and the Holy Spirit in a male trinity. There cannot be any impurity or erotic love between them. Therefore, an erotic expression of love between same sex individuals distorts the Image of the Trinity because God is holy and pure. Only in Christ does a man find his true self fulfilled and needs met. So much to consider here. Two recommended books: "Pursuing Sexual Wholeness" by Andrew Comiskey and C. S. Lewis "The Four Loves". Again, thank you for your video. I have an oil painting that looks yellowed, so I am thinking I should try cleaning it first with the Cotton Cleaner, but then hoping you have covered how to remove old varnish if that is the culprit.
