Most of the stories about recording that album have turned out to be bullshit, encouraged by Shaun at the time to be fair. The studio furniture turned out to be some plastic garden chairs if his book is to be believed. A lot of the old rumours and stories have been put right in the Paul Ryder story podcast. They haven't got round to Barbados yet but he's already said that most of it was bullshit. I guess it was just very believable, I believed every word for years.
First time l heard it. Lovely song, I'm a clean addict today but l know exactly what Shaun is getting at. Addiction is a fucking prison for me if l use and a miserable existance.
I'm an ex- addict, too. The words, and the pain in Shaun's voice really gets to me. The true sound of smack withdrawal, maybe. There'd be more screaming though.
I've been clean from meth 2 years but have no clue where to go from here. Essentially my life has stagnated and I don't know how tf to unfuck myself. Listening to this song gives me hope. Optimism . Whatever it's very pleasant. Especially when the lady starts singing I feel like I'm in a "getting my shit together " montage from a movie lol like Renton getting it right in trainspotting. I just need to apply that motivation to real life
@@awesomeprunes Well, Shaun Ryder tells a different story how it was New Order and Mondays bankrolling all the other artists on Factory. Factory was going under the way it was anyway.
One of the most brutal songs about addiction and regret I’ve ever heard
Love this album
I'm with you on that. It was rather overlooked for some reason.
It's considered as their worst album and it even bankrupted the label.
@Jay-we2ek I wanted to like it they shouldn't have put the best song first.
Great song

"Just off to sell the couch." 🤣
what's that from?
Whilst recording this album they sold a couch from the recording studio to buy crack.

Indeed. A sad loss.

Lots of fond memories.... 🤣 🤭
This one makes me want to walk out of work and off myself, but I love the song

Haunting tune.
Most people fail. Keep strong.

So I can leave that pocket clean...

Natural progression of 'Step On' into artificial grooves. A precursor to Trip-Hop? ...
Produced by Tina Weymouth & Chris Frantz.
Uhhhhh Didn't this come out on Factory Records?
This album kind of bankrupted Factory. London took over from them.
@@awesomeprunes yea the movie talks about it in 24 Hour Party People
@Bloody Pulp such a great film! The depth of it all is what makes it incredible.
