If you don't want your tortilla to go to the front, just add a little bit of flour to both sides of the dough and problem solved! thank you for this video! it helped me a lot to make the best tortillas!
Wow, you have it down to a science! I just bought a CucinaPro Electric Tortilla Maker - 10", (waiting for it to get here) I use ancient grains like einkorn or kamut and Non Gmo Hard Red spring wheat berries that I mill myself for breads and will probably use it for tortillas b/c of digestion issues. I like your tortilla dough, it's soft and stretchy like I saw on Bread Beckers website. Thanks for the informational video, It's very useful for those of us who are new to this kind of cooking.
Excellent demo and instructions. Thanks so much for showing how it’s done! From the manual, “Preheat. 3. Preheat the appliance with the Top Cooking plate in the up position so that the appliance is open.” (page 4)
Yeah I know I was getting ready to give up whem then dough kept sliding out. But I said nope this thing isn't going to get the best of me. 😳 Thanks for the comment and the sub..
I did read in the manual to preheat the appliance with the top cooking plate in the up or open position. Usually about 6-8 minutes and the appliance is ready for use. Thank you for the pointers on preventing the dough from sliding off. Tried it earlier for the first time and had that issue. Look forward to trying your method.
Thank you you really gave a good tutorial with this Brentwood tortilla maker. The advice was thorough and I appreciate the information about how many grams the dough should weigh.
I just purchased this Thank you so much and thank you for weighting the dough ;I make flour/wheat tortillas and corn tortillas for my family I needed more input I’ll let you know how it goes
Thank you! This was so helpful. I have this exact machine and was going to use it for the first time tonight. It also drives me crazy that most recipes don't give you weights.
I bought thus product and mine still don't come out perfect like yours but i didn't know some if the tricks you shared thank you. Could you also list the recepie of your flour tortillas
Tortilla dough is one of the simplest doughs to make. Just AP flour salt fat and water. Sometimes I Will add stuff like powdered garlic. There are plenty if recipes out there. So I wont go into that right now. But the 1 thing I will say is this. And it is very important, after the dough is mixed cover the dough with a damp towel for at least a 1/2 hour. This will allow the dough to hydrate and also become more plyable. And your tortillias wil be less tough.
@@JackPaynesFoodPains Wow, thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly, and I appreciate your detailed response! I also appreciate your detailed video. Earlier this year, I bought the 10” tortilla maker, and it kept spitting out the dough, so I then bought the 12” (which I haven’t used yet; crazy, I know. 🤪) thinking it would be better. I look forward to following your suggestions! I’ll get back to you after I give it another try... Thanks again. 😃
You taught me a few tricks. Not bad for a white guy too. Considering my Latina. I've not made. Though mom did, will practice and keeping fingers crossed they come out like yours. ❤
I can make homemade tortillas, but I wanted something easier.. mine kept flying out just like you showed 😒. I was about to throw it out the window 🤣😂. Thanks for the tips!! Lol 👏🏼
Funny you should ask. I am editing a video now of a viwer request of making corn tortillas on it. I had never tried corn on it before so the video will be of my 1st ATTEMPT at corn tortillas. Should be up in a week or 2. Be as for the press it is still working and have made close to 100 tortillas on it I would say. Thabks for watching and keep an eye out for the corn video👍👍
@@JackPaynesFoodPains Cool. I just got one of these and made my first batch of flour tortillas. Would be interested in seeing your corn tortilla video.
Just ordered an exact same one today. Good I found your video. Thank you for explaining it so nicely. I was skeptical while ordering. Will try it with confidence now that I saw how to make it. Do the tortillas stay soft once they cool down?
Thank you for showing it, like it. I have exactly similar machine, but even after pressing 2-3 times, the dough does not make bigger circle. It turns out slightly thicker, not thin and puffy. I am using all purpose flour. Is there any trick that I am missing?
How much does your dough balls weigh? Also after kneading-mixing your dough let it sit under a moist towel for a half-hour to an hour before making the dough balls. Hope this helps.
@@JackPaynesFoodPains Finally I discovered some tricks. I made smaller circles from the dough balls using the machine, before warming it up. When the machine gets warm, pressing them again gives bigger circles and also makes puffy breads. Thanks again for sharing the video!
Sir I watched your video and I did what you showed to do it made the tortillas but can out really dry from edges is that cause of the machine or the dough can you tell me what I did wrong . Thank you Rosie
I can’t get it to stay in the back even if I hand press to a pretty good size it just keep slipping out I used water and still didn’t work it completely slide out of the presser😢
Just be patient with it at 1st. It took me a couple of tries to figure it out. Hopefully she will give you a little something back in return if you know what I mean😀
@@moretimeneeded56 8 inch might be big enough but If you are going to make burritos with them they will be small. As for the wattage. I haven't found the need yet to turn the heat on all the way up so it might be fine.
the size doesn't matter for the dough to puff, you have to press and form the circle with the dough just seconds...press and open up, press and open up until is as big and round as you want...then you have to leave it alone with the machine open for seconds almost to make bubbles, move it a couple of times and then you turn it to the other side and it should puff...if you let it cook too much it loses the water inside the dough and it won't puff. Also the dough has to be humid, if it's too dry it won't puff either...keep trying and you will be able to make it you'll see...hope this helps...
Yeah I think I will keep rolling them out by hand and cooking in my cast iron. I like the roundness of your method but I didn't care for the over all look of them. Good vid though.

Can you make corn tortillas with This machine?
Hi! No, you can't.
Yes, you can.
Actually, the manual has a recipe for maiz tortillas
I just looked at Amazon U.K. They have a Brentwood 8 inch press for £120 ($160). That is a lot of money for what it does even though it does it well.
Damn I paid 55 dollars US. For 160 I would set my house on fire and cook them on th roof 1st. Thats nuts..
Not every Tortilla press on Amazon U.K. is that expensive, only Brentwood. There are Geepas and Netta which are about $60 but only 8 inch and 900W.

wow i just got one from amazon a 8 inch for 44 dollars
Where can i get one to purchase and what is the cast. Thanks for your reply
Best shot might be the Amazon. The heating plates are covered in some non stick. I know it is not cast iron. Because it is to light to be cast iron..

Can I have the recipe or your dough.
Is this only for flour tortilla or corn too?
Corn works too. Might have to adjust the temp a bit.

Heck yeah you are the man.
Thank you sir! I'm wondering if it can be used for other flatbreads like Naan, roti, and pita bread too? Do you know?
yes it can
It can definitely. But if you're a desi used to eating freshly made rotis straight from amma's tawa, you ain't gonna like it
manual does say keep lid open when preheating
Thank you!!

It shouldn't matter what size you have gotten. The technique should be the same.

Let your dough rest longer to let the gluten relax. 30 minutes is ideal.
