If you add Sim Settlements 2 to the game first, It's pretty good as a 'side quest' zone. There was still a bit too much about Far Harbour that was broken for me otherwise. Yeah it was still the best DLC, but man.....

"Enjoyable disappointment" is the term I've been using for a while to describe Fallout 4. Coming from New Vegas, F4 falls short due to stripping out so many RPG mechanics that made NV great. But, once you get past that, there's enough to be an enjoyable experience. I've put nearly 2k hours into F4 and will probably keep going back to it (mainly due to mods like Sim Settlements 2 and London) but there will always be that "what could've been" feeling thinking about NV worldbuilding and roleplaying experience with updated graphics and shooting mechanics.

    • @pbsixgun6

Fallout 4 is my favorite game in the series, but yeah it's got some of the most problems of the mainline titles. However it's teetering on the edge of greatness so much that if it combined some of NV's rpg game mechanics, it would just about be the best in the franchise gameplay wise. Story is definitely something it has against it compared to NV, but it's passable.

Fallout 4 is best when its a hardcore survival imo. I like the mod that completely cancels fast travel except between settlements connected by supply lines.
Theres was one fantastic mod that lets you treat legendary effects on weapons and armor as if they were regular mods so you could remove them and put them on items youll actually use

I remember my first Fallout 3 experience. Never played any Fallout games but my best friend had a copy & let me play. I had a jist of what to do, being a FPS kinda game. Once I left the vault, all clean & whatnot, I saw a water tower in the distance (if you've played F3, then you know) I walked to it to investigate & saw an interaction option. I drank from it & got irradiated. My buddy said "Wtf do you think would happen? It's a nuclear wasteland!"

  • @siegessaule

Fallout 4 is a lot more advanced and pretty, but it has none of the character of the previous installments. Fallout 3 and 4 feel like adventure games whereas NV is a real RPG. Leaving out the ammo crafting was also a pretty glaring omission, I loved making ammo in NV.

I remember playing the game around the time it first released and I didn't have much fun with it. After setting it aside for about a year and only coming back because I paid $60 for it so I was gonna find some kind of enjoyment, I did.
Now knowing I wasn't getting a game with the traditional fallout experience I instead embraced what the game did well, which was environments and gunplay. I started treating it as an adventure shooter set in the fallout universe and found myself enjoying it way more after that.

I remember watching my cousin play Fallout 4 and thinking, "That looks cool! I'll give it a try!" Got the game and noticed it came with Fallout 3, so I decided I'd play that first to go about it chronologically. I had no expectations of the game, but ended up liking it a lot, so you could imagine how hyped I was to finally play Fallout 4 only for it to fall flat on its face. I did not care for it much and was fairly disappointed. Then much later decided to try out Fallout: New Vegas after hearing so much good things about it. Five words: Best twenty dollars ever spent.
Despite that, I'll always appreciate Fallout 4 for being my gateway to the Fallout series, even if it wasn't my first Fallout game. After all, it led to the discovery of the your YT channels and Fallout: New Vegas. One day I'll finally buy myself a PC and finally be able to try out some of the Fallout mods, and maybe get into modding myself

Need to a lot of checking and bug-finding about the text of the different texts and conversations. So, I did put around 1000-1100 hours into the game, because I am liking it, too :D

FO4 wasn’t fun until the mods mostly because the base game bothers my OCD self. So much of the game revolves around the settlements and they could have done so much better with it. However the fighting is fun, I appreciate the weapons upgrade and armor upgrade more than in the other games. I liked the character creator. I liked the voice actors I just wish the character model was better animated during dialogue. Visually the color pallet is less bland and makes it easier to see things than in FO:NV or FO3 which were visually bland. There were parts of the story that were good and characters I liked a lot. I just wish Bethesda had more of a Larian mindset where they sent out “patches” that would address their customers concerns and add additional gameplay options or endings to flesh out the story. Bethesda really hasn’t done much outside of their made for you to pay creation club which is full of unaddressed bugs and glitches.

I had the opposite experience. I was enthralled with Fallout 4 at first, spent countless hours building Sanctuary up to be a respectable community, treasure hunted awesome legendary weapons, explored the perk system and mostly enjoyed the story (Institute was stupid even at the first playthrough.)
But as I poured more and more hours into it, I started to realize just how dull the characters could be. How pointless a good chunk of the quests were, and how quickly those legendaries start to pile up.
Lack of player choice really does hurt this game. Kellogg was easily one of the better characters Bethesda made, and I wish we could have explored further into his character.
Far Harbor was incredibly fun, hated the brain puzzle. Automaton really gave me some fun with the story and custom mechs. Got frustrated at the workshops DLCs since they were basically charging for features you could get off the mod shop. And Nuka World...well, if you're a goody two shoes like me, you're gonna have a rough time.c

i feel like the Bethesda Fallouts are based more around the survival difficulty. radiant quests would be decent and easy ways to get early game loot and levels. after the first run i played it to see how i could break it. like getting out of the vault without the pipboy or getting to areas that you would normally need end game gear to reach. i even did a melee only run and it was actually fun killing a death claw with a tire iron.

My issue with 4 is that the BoS and Institute are cartoonishly evil. Like the Legion is inarguably evil but they’re evil in a realistic way, slavery, warmongering, genocide are their price for relative stability and rule of law. The institute has zero intentions of helping anyone and the BoS are just tech racists.
I love the concept of the “Synth Dilemma” but I despise how impotent and limp wristed Bethesda handled it (even in FH). The toughest decision in 4 is “genocide, no genocide but slavery, or freedom” which isn’t much of a choice tbh.

For me that dlc is written better than base game and yet still there might be tad annoying moments tho wont spoil anything if you not played it. Btw far harbor might have quite few endings even some connected to Boston main factions like Bos or institute.

The fallout series was great, When i was a child with nothing to compare it to. New vegas will always be in my top 5 video games of all time, but hindsight being 20/20 i realize how much potential these games truly had. Fallout 3 and 4 arent great RPG games, you dont really get to be the bad guy ever, besides maybe putting the fev in the water in 3.
New vegas was great in that you really could just be a dick to everyone and it fit.
I also think creation club has fucked these games. These mods that should have been free, Or even already in the game. But theyre explicitly just fucking cash grabs. Paid mods with a different name.
Fallout 4 was also very annoying with them repeatable radiant quests, Preston garvey became a meme because of this lmao, It reminded me of the Skyrim quests to become the guild master, where if you dont know, You need to do 9 quests in each city, and then do a special quest. Not hard at all, but the act of doing a quest and going back to the ragged flagon 45 or so times is SO ANNOYING. I almost gaurantee i got the number of thieves guild quests wrong but my point stands, it takes forever.

Look at New Vegas, made by a team who knew how fallout should work. Bethesda and more importantly Todd Howard got jealous and envious of the success and their egos were hit hard. That's why their games from 2011 onward are dumbed down, and it's also vecause of TES 3. They allowed you to kill anyone but it messed things up so bad you'd have to reload a save. They don't want to have to implement that kind of system again, if a system works and prints out the most money the they will stick with it. Until we hit the wallets of Bethesda they will never change. I'm a fan of their games but there neess to be a reform and complete overhaul of the company.
