I had a really interesting chat with Sam about how he trained for and ran his first ultramarathon, The Gritstone Grind, a 35 mile race that follows the Gritstone Trail from Kidsgrove in the south up to Lyme Park through some of the most stunning countryside in Cheshire.
I was a bit over exuberant with the calorie estimate, when I ran the sandstone trail I burnt about 4,500 calories so add on your normal 2000 for the day and you have 6,500 for a treat at the end so thats at least 11 Big Macs..

Layby hopping is a great way to get out when you cant run (walk in my case) but still see the countryside and get some fantastic views! Can highly recommend Snowdonia, when my back went I did this quite a bit and found some great walks to do once my back recovered! :-) Hope you can get out running soon!!

Lots of lay-by hopping videos coming. Couple more months probably before I can run yet
