Thanks again, always interesting and entertaining. Some random thoughts to do with eyeball planets. Ignoring for the moment that such bodies orbiting that close to a red dwarf are probably barren rocks without any atmosphere it's feasible some could be surprisingly Earth-like: -If a planet close-in was locked in to a reasonably fast resonance you'd end up with something approximating a normal day-night cycle. -Such a planet, aided by tidal heating, might have a strong enough magnetic field to hold on to it's atmosphere if it's star was on the quiet side for a red dwarf. -Even if tidally locked a reasonably thick atmosphere could transport heat sufficiently well that most, if not all, could be pretty pleasant... apart from the wind! Interestingly it's starting to look like our planet got it's solid core as recently as 500 million years ago, so our "dynamo" is a recent development. As the Earth wasn't a barren rock without an atmosphere prior to that we must have had some other mechanism for holding on to an atmosphere, and seemingly the Earth had strong geomagnetism in the past, for some reason... ...if that is true for our planet it might be true for eyeball planets... at least until their core solidifies, which might be delayed as a result of tidal heating. It may be a coincidence but it's funny that at just about the time our planet changed it's method for generating a magnetic field life developed some significant new tricks. We may also have dodged a bullet as it seems quickly developing a dynamo to replace whatever was going on before was not a given... Moon..? So much speculation, so many questions, and so many answers yet to be found!

The only thing worse for the environment than the commercial for the McDLT was the styrofoam packaging they used to sell them (and other products, like the pancake breakfast) in. I still have some of those empty shells from that packaging that my parents kept, thinking they would use them for something later, just sitting in the garage in a stack. Seriously though, using the McDLT (hot-side-hot, cold-side-cold!) as a metaphorical learning tool to describe the solar dynamics between an eyeball planet & their host-star was great. Thanks Joe!

"I don't want to live on this planet anymore" - Professor Farnsworth
Yo Brad, you seem to be pretty smart. Do you know how to level a stage though? It's easy, just adjust either side until the drummer is drooling out of both sides of his mouth.
15:03 would we have been able to make the same scientific advancements without been able to see the stars? That would make for a good video
That's a pretty great idea!
Read Asimov's Nightfall.
I like the idea as well. But how do we get him to do?
Helps explain why dolphins and whales have no technology, despite their huge brains.
@@MumblinBerk That is not the only reason tho. they don't have the same "wiring" that we, the humans, have, to actually do complex problem resolutions and many many other things
'Is that Jason Alexander?' That cracked me up, I was thinking the same thing.
You are by far the most entertaining and educational person (from the layman point of view) of anyone I've seen on TH-cam.
“These are historic remains of a once great society of hair!” - George Constanza, truthteller
The look on Joe's face....lmao....as I hang my head in shame...lol
At the beginning of the video, I was like 'cool, he's gonna talk about some habitable planet where future humans might move to'. By the end, I was just thinking that we are so lucky to have Earth.
ii wjust want a Mds trip
But if we didn't, we couldn't even feel bad for not having earth cause we wouldn't exist...
eyeball planet sounds nice though

12:40 that would be so cool though, always having sorta cool and humid winds blowing on you with probably a little bit of light rain as well, sounds like paradise
Who wants to bring back the McDLT now?
Nobody
I thought they sang BLT :( now a bacon lettuce tomato I'm totally for but a dlt? I was alive in the 80s, how do I not remember
@@mistygoodwill You didnt miss much. The McDLT had zero taste. I dont how they removed the flavor from the tomato and lettuce but they did it. Healthy ingredients dont belong on mcdonalds
@@rogerwilco1777 nothing beats a home grown garden taste.i don't think fast food will ever be able to compete
When you figure out light takes millions of years to reach us and find out the planet might no longer be habitable.... :(
true
in lots of planets it's only decades or centuries
millions of years won't cause it to not be habitable, from the habitable zone theory
I just thought "wait is that Jason Alexander?" and then you just said that 🤣🤣🤣🤣 u r awesome
Challenge to you, Joe. Work in the 68 Vollwagon Fastback commercial with Dustin Hoffman.
Came here to say this..
18:45 “Wow!” Thanks for murdering my name Joe😂 Great video as always, keep it up!
I think “Charon” is pronounced like “Karon” like the name of the boat captain for the crossing of the River Styx. Creepy
I've heard it pronounced "Karen". He demands to see Hades, his manager.
@Audiocronic I want to peck your face 😁
The problem is that the proper sound for Charon does not exist in english. It should be pronounced like Mikhail in russian or like jalapeño in spanish. Now, if it all sounds greek to you and you 're stuck with CH as in child or K, go with K.
I hope that was helpful.
@@ΓιώργοςΧαλκιάς-χ5χ if we were doing the real Greek word yes, then it would be pronounced kind of like "haa-ŕon" (correct me if I'm wrong), but the guy who named it says it as "Karen" so either he himself named it wrong or that's just what we all have to call it now haha
Carun
LOVE it when you say “maths”
If it wasn't for the writing, it sounded like he said: "meth"
Now I remember why I tried so hard to forget the 80s. Thanks a lot!
Joe, you crack me up! Also, I'm totally old enough to have actually watched that commercial. 😂🤣
We should start a club. Secret handshakes and everything!
Yes but did you ever eat the McDLT? I think they cost $1.79
@@alcelaya1365 I remember eating one and thinking, "meh", so no surprise that it's gone.
Getting old? Yep.
Club? Yes.
Secret handshake? Yes.
Did I ever eat one? Yes.
Meh? Ehh... Yeah... But nostalgia! 😁
Thanks again, always interesting and entertaining.
Some random thoughts to do with eyeball planets. Ignoring for the moment that such bodies orbiting that close to a red dwarf are probably barren rocks without any atmosphere it's feasible some could be surprisingly Earth-like:
-If a planet close-in was locked in to a reasonably fast resonance you'd end up with something approximating a normal day-night cycle.
Hey Joe, are you doin' alright? You sound defeated to me.
You do an awesome job producing videos. I am very grateful of the research you do to bring us a summary of the ever-evolving plethora of scientific news. This video was awesome, too. Take care of yourself!
Wife: "What are you watching?"
Me: "Video... its about eyeballs, bulges and yoga"
...
...
Wife: "I want a divorce."
and McD L.T
Selim Topal 🤣🤣🤣
Eyeballs, bulges, yoga and Jason Alexander..
O.O
I just want to say that the McDLT was my favorite sandwich, and I took it very personally when they discontinued it. And I blame the Flat-Earthers for this, because we live in a time when it's OK to blame anyone for anything, and Joe Scott might back me up on this.
Joe's reaction to the hamburger commercial.. priceless. If I was on the fence on whether or not to watch this channel...I am not anymore. You are hilarious and... and informative.
The jokes were on point with this video Joe. I was actually laughing out loud with the yoga line.
🤣 That McDonald’s commercial in the middle of your video was kind of awesome! 🤣 I love the way you edited everything, with your reactions & facial expressions and the way you just came back to it after a few seconds 🤣 lollll Really well done Joe! 👏 Absolutely fantastic
Thanks Joe!
I'm craving for a Hamburger now because of that 80's McDonald's Ad....
Speaking of space, space restaurants will be inevitable in the far future...probably
For certain there will be one at the end of the universe
*Wait... was that Jason Alexander?" I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. Not because of the old commercial but how you read my mind. I was thinking that same thought as you said it. Brilliant!
ahh man.. Thanks Joe. Just rewatched this video. Your reaction to the macD commercial is priceless! Thanks for the chuckle.
Funny, I recently had to try to explain when I used the "hot side hot and the cold side cold" reference to my daughter earlier this year. It's a lettuce and tomato burger ... so what? It does not even have cheese or bacon!!! Then explaining to her the !!!huge ass styrofoam package it came in¡¡¡ We totally hated the earth in the 80's.
The Eyeball planet reminds me a planet from the original Foundation trilogy. I can't remember its name but Asimov describes the ribbon of habitable zone where humans lived and also talks about some who've ventured to the transition regions. It's not the main focus of the story but it is quite interesting.
Hey Chadwellak - yeah, Isaac called them "Ribbon Worlds" - sounds more appealing to me than 'eyeball planets'
I've been continuously making McDLT references since they were a thing so I very much appreciate what you've done here.
Joe getting completely sidetracked by the Mc.D.L.T commercial is my ADHD in a nutshell

We tend to underestimate drug use in the 1980s. Or at least that's how I explain that comercial.
Thankfully, unlike red dwarf stars, that ad was less long lived,
though probably just as damaging.
That ridiculously over the top 80's commercial, in all its silliness, just made me pine so much for the 80's...
