Our old barn had the over head trolley in the center connects with cables connected to a tractor on one end and six large curved tines would be connected to a carriage that would lock in the tines when lifting 10 bales at a time . They would rise from the truck/trailer to the overhead track and lock into the trolley and then glide to where they wanted the bales to drop by a rip cord that would release the bales. Just took a little more man power. Especially when the forks would drop from the carriage to the truck/tailer. It was a different time. Your dad might remember those setups. Love the videos. Keep them coming.
Many memories of our old Barn out in Washington State where I grew up . Dad farmed 600 acres and ran two hundred head of registered Black Angus breeder cows. Lots of hay and grain prep. He raised all of his own feed. Ground his own corn etc. Good memories. I enjoy your videos. Just found you a couple of weeks ago.
Nice old barn, don't see many like that around anymore with a big hay loft like that & still being used. I like that hay hiker set up. Reminds me of my younger days stacking hay in a few old barns. I've got a small hay loft area in one of my pole barns I stack hay in for my wife's horse. So I still get the reminder of what it's like to be working in the hay loft. LOL Stay safe.
@@mikep7810 I try to keep about 50 or so bales for the wife's horse. Since it's just a hobby now, I just bale up a small 2 acre field. The rest of the hay the field makes I either sale out of the field or barn. Now days for me it's stress relief from the day job. If you like, check out my channel. Take care.
Thanks' for posting the video, It's real neat to see some of the older equipment being used still. Good luck with the rest of the season. I had asked you sometime in the past about the hay loader, Nice to see how it works inside & out.
Nice to see the old barn with no daylight poking through the roof! A couple of the barns we buy hay from are leaking bad. It destroys the hay and the barn wont last much longer. To expensive to fix I guess -- but what happens when it falls down? Glad to see you're keeping the old barn standing!
It’s good you are wearing a dust mask! We would stack our bales with the cut side up. Dad said any excess moisture would dry better. Don’t know if it worked, just did as Dad instructed!
Real nice to see an old barn still used for its intended purpose!. I suppose it stored loose hay in the beginning ,lot of work there but I've almost got smellavision for that sweet smell but I can almost break a sweat just watching too! Thanks for the video!
Yep... I did a few of those in my youth....and always on the hottest, most humid day of the summer it seemed. We didn't let the bales drop off the conveyor. It was set up to come from below up to floor level and you'd pick them off. If you let them drop, they might well pop the twine and fall apart.
Looking good Mike we been balls to the wall to bailing! Finally got a little dry spell. Thanks for the great videos. Trav down in Jersey not to far from your uncles
Yeah with this little stretch of nice weather I think everyone has been out there making as much hay as they can. That's pretty cool, I gotta get back down to New Jersey to visit one of these days
Your Dad is my age and hes doing the milking. He likes his cows that's for sure.I can understand that, but theres no way I could do it my hats off to him.
So thats looking good you always get the barn full of hey each year and how many bales are that in total thanks Mike have a good day greetings from a Dutch dairyfarmer
I was wondering do you know what brand or who made that 90 degree angle that u have to get the bales into your barn? We’re adding onto our tie stall barn and I’m having trouble finding something just like that so we can keep using our haymow Just figured it couldn’t hurt to ask😊 Great videos I always enjoy them!
I know there was a guy that made them around me and that's why a lot of farms around me have the 90 degree turns. Sadly that man passed away. I would have to think someone out there makes one
ManI am having a heck of a time trying to get this wrote. I was saying I like your hay elevator never seen one like it before does it have a reverse so you can take hay out of the barn I see you sell hay too.
Thank you, no it doesn't have a reverse. When we sell hay we throw the hay down then use a small elevator to load a trailer. They elevator is stationary so once the pile of hay is lower than the elevator it would be hard to get bales up to it
In 1999 we had a wheel bearing heat up and caught fire and the whole load of hay and the wagon went up. Went with metal wagons after that and they've worked well for us
I end up losing count how much we do in a year but there are thousands up there. We can get about 120 bales on our wagons and we unloaded quite a few wagons
Stacked a lot of hay almost 40 yrs ago, once word gets out farmers would come to the house and pick us up.That camera view from the top of the barn was awesome!
any chance you can show us on a map where your farm is,where farming fix fab is as well as ,andreww4440 and the john deer dealership you guys all go to ..i guessing they all are close
Andrew4440 is 5 minutes from me so he is close, the John Deere dealership is about a half an hour north of me and Andy from farming fixing & fab is about an hour north of me. I'll point it out on a map sometime
We dont go right to the peak because it would be hard to throw them down the shoot. We've gone a few layers above the elevator but that's more then enough hay for the year. That mow is probably all set and we'll work on filling the other part
Not much luck getting teenagers to help make hay or straw around here any more! Used to ride bikes over but now apparently you have to be over 21 to ride a bike!🤨
The baler has a kicker that shoots them in there. If you watch my video before this one call "making hay while the sun shines" half way through it shows the bales being thrown in the wagons
