    I don’t know much about that large equipment but have to admit I am very impressed with the Armstrong starting method

    You could never make a wintertime cold start video with that old 60, Spring would get here before it started 😂 i love old trucks and equipment, great channel

    Early 1950's my dad built a reservoir on our 100 acre dairy 2 mi east of Lincoln CA. Using a Cat 60 running on propane. It pulled a scraper/carryall with wide steel wheels. Cable drum lifted and dumped the carryall. It started very easily and ran great. Seamed dangerous turning the fly wheel with a crowbar, one hole at a time. however, I was 12 years old at the time and never had a problem with starting. Sure wish I could find an old photo of that working.

    What an awesome vlog, love the old white and the Cat 60 even more unique. New subscriber from Australia sir, looking forward to catching up on your videos and journey. Well done

      Thanks for subscribing. If you follow up on my videos you’ll see last year I visited your beautiful country. I collaborated with Steve at Steve’s Place Down Under and we traveled south from there to collaborate with Dave at Old Rigs Down Under. I can’t begin to describe what a great time it was. So much so that my wife and I are hoping to plan an extended visit to Australia.

    Great to see the 60 going again thanks for a ride in the White. Just watched Steve start his D2 another fantastic video as well.

    Love that truck! Love that caterpillar! Both sound amazing! Your trailer looks like a Hyster tilt bed that we used to have. I pulled a loader around Colorado digging basements with that! Thanks for the video!

    It does pretty good. I should check the numbers on the engine. It’s a Cummins and I often get asked the horsepower rating. It has a 5 main and 3 auxiliary so it keeps you busy shifting.

    You wore me out just watching you start the ole Girl.
    Old White and the Cat just sound so good.
    I have almost the Same Trailer. Mine is a 64 Transport Trailer, I pull with a 64 Chevrolet CM80
    I think yours might be a Miller about same vintage ?

    Surely there is an easier and safer way to turn it to start it. What if your pry bar doesn't come out of a hole after it hits to start? It did sound and run very good.

    • @oldamericaniron5767
      @oldamericaniron5767  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      There is more other way to start it unless you pull it. Some people have built friction drive starters where a rubber wheel drives on flywheel.

    Good watch mate. Imagine the blokes in those days starting a shift on a cold morning and having to try and start that 60. It always amazes me and I think the same thing when I start up old equipment like that. Tough men back then.
    Is there enough weight on the drive of that White for a load like this?

    • @oldamericaniron5767
      @oldamericaniron5767  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I wouldn’t try an uphill pull on gravel and wouldn’t run on a wet road. With the tongue weight it’s good on dry pavement. I wanted to get a flatbed on it, maybe by next year.

    The old girl does like to give you a bit of a fight. Sounds real good once it decides to go. It looks like your starter bar might be a little small? I think they are supposed to be 7/8".

    G exactly when you said I never get tired of hearing the 60 run I was thinking pretty much the same thoughts!
    I was wondering does the White work pulling that kind of weight home or does it have plenty of power ?
    And what kind of transmission or transmissions does it have?
    And how much would that 60 weigh ?

      I never checked but it’s a Cummins and people often ask. It has a 5 main and 3 auxiliary, keeps you busy shifting. It pulls it pretty good. Maybe next year I’ll get it across the scale.

    Yeah it's a pretty track unique caterpillar there never seen anything like that or heard anything like that even run it's looks like it's suicide attempt to get those things started wow and it doesn't sound to me like it's much above an idol how in the heck does it move any dirt when there's no RPMs.
