Hard recommend. The soundtrack is a banger as said, but playing it to the soundtrack... Honestly, there are games that complement their soundtracks, and there's THIS. It's real easy to get into as well, hard as it is to play. Part of the reason I did was because of how convenient the control scheme is for just jumping in bed with a laptop and firing it up. It's just the arrow keys, you're playing with one hand - can't get more nice and comfy than that. tl;dr: Try it. It's good.

It should have been a bigger hit worldwide, got to number 11 in the UK, number 2 in Mexico, barely dented the US and Canadian charts, but wasn’t well promoted. So ahead of its time as well, should have come out in 2020.

you are missing danny b :p Shovel Knight's soundtrack was made with Famitracker as far as i know. This tool was designed to create chiptune musics and is limited if we compare it with modern DAWs. Danny uses modern ones. But this is not the only reason. Danny is pure genius!
I like how the songs Crypteque is a reference to 40k's Necrons and in the game Mechanicus there's a song called Dance of the Kryptek, a nod to Crypt of the Necrodancer

The fact is that hearing solely this song made me buy the freaking game AND I DON'T REGRET IT IN THE SLIGHTEST, 30+ hours in and aiming to grab all the achvs, so there'll be much more time spending AND I DON'T REGRET IT IN THE SLIGHTEST

This song was so ahead of it’s time. People say that Royal Blood invented a new genre, well Cryogen were doing the same thing nearly 5 years earlier. If it hadn’t been for poor management, Andy’s serious alcohol problem, Whitney’s death etc... they would be remembered as one of the greatest bands in history when they weren’t doing weird shit. They shot themselves in the foot with The Shifting Sands and that was that pretty much.
