There was, in fact it was two songs they did live on this show but for whatever reason, all that remains up now is "Ballad of New York" But yeah, the video was really, really good
@@whoarethebrainpigs GG's 1980 debut "Always Is, Was, & Always Shall Be" was on David Peel's Orange Records. Also, Peel provided back up vocals on GG's last album "Bloodshed & Brutallity For All" in '93.
The Yippies were fascinating, love seeing David Peel make history here with John. Peel (maybe the original punk), Dana Beal, Weberman, Hoffman, Rubin, the rest. Fight the power!
This is a protest song. John liked David because he wanted to get this message to the people. It is not pop music and when taken into context, it is clearly not bad. RIP John, David and Tommy-not sure who Tommy is but RIP as well.

John wrote beautiful songs. Why would he lower himself to working with this guy? More nerve than talent. I guess that John just wanted to have some light fun, and to temporarily get away from serious musicians, and writing.
Because ""serious"" musicians are often far away from art in its freer and more explorative forms. What you call light fun is basically the informality, the tribe gathering feeling that most performed music through the lenght of human existence has been imbued with. Also, the television setting doesn't really help the naturality music like this can posses when performed in other contexts.
@@alejandroignacioleon8025 David Peel was involved more in more simple, basic music: that's the point. Regardless of whether he was doing it in a tribal setting or not, it was still very basic stuff.
@vb1144 You used the word "opposite to beauty." Remember, that was no where in my verbiage. Simplicity has its place. Charming children's books have simple stories in them, but no one would confuse them for great literature.
@vb1144 I'm going to quote your sentence " because Lennon tended to mediocrity, even if he also made some beautiful songs... " Tell me more about this idea/conclusion of your's. Are you saying that most of John's songs were mediocre, but he did make a few beautiful songs? Or, are you saying that, generally, John made songs that were not complex (mediocre), but they were beautiful. I believe that this summation of your's (quoted sentence, above) is key to my understanding your opinion of John's work. I'd also ask, how much songwriting have you done? The reason that I ask this is that I think that understanding song structure, melody, harmony and improv are key to having an educated opinion, AKA one that carries more weight than a layman's opinion. If you tell me that all opinions are valid, then you'd be verifying the Dick Clark's TV show, where they used the criteria: It has a good beat, and I can dance to it (as being equal to that of analyzing a song for harmony, melody, tempo, etc.)
@@shiitakestick You honestly think he was intimidating? How many times did your paths cross?Find it hard to believe you would have been intimidated by him.
