This is so amazing. I can't make up my mind as to whether to follow the vocal techniques or the Lute. I'm torn between vocal and instrumental. Alexander's vocals are so beautiful though, such amazing control and balance. However, as someone whom started out playing stringed instruments, Toby's Lute is a sight for the feasting of the eyes as well. Such an amazing coupling.
Lyrics: In darkness let me dwell; the ground shall sorrow be, The roof despair, to bar all cheerful light from me; The walls of marble black, that moist'ned still shall weep; My music, hellish jarring sounds, to banish friendly sleep. Thus, wedded to my woes, and bedded in my tomb, O let me living die, till death doth come, till death doth come. Second stanza included in the Coprario 1606 setting: My dainties grief shall be, and tears my poisoned wine, My sighs the air through which my panting heart shall pine, My robes my mind shall suit exceeding blackest night, My study shall be tragic thoughts sad fancy to delight, Pale ghosts and frightful shades shall my acquaintance be: O thus, my hapless joy, I haste to thee. Just listened to this rendition as well as the vocalist’s father’s (yes - THE Michael Chance’s) take accompanied by Paul Beier (th-cam.com/video/WLVMIq5r4U4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=q_GhXExTS5QqKLQP) JUST TODAY! As an American-born early music nut who just relocated to the Philippines as a dual citizen, I spent my elementary through high school years listening to the former! He’s a VERY CLOSE second to Alex as my favorite countertenor!
Прекрасно, Александр! Браво! Вы достойный сын Вашего божественного отца!!!
Magnificent! A voice like an ancient instrument. What a pleasure to listen!
Lovely countertenor.
Fabulous voice
I've heard this song with Deller and Jaroussky before. First time I hear Toby and I'm very impressed.
Magnificent performance!
A clear, rich and beautiful voice.
Wow, absolutely outstanding!

This is very beautiful
Excelente voz.

Awesome interpretation !
Best version I've heard, including Jaroussky and Sting. Just enough emotion to express real acceptance, bravo!
The echo is breathtaking 😁

Thank you
🥰
Preciosa voz de contratenor, me recuerda a los clásicos como Michael Chance o James Bowman. Enhorabuena 👏
Alexandre es su hijo😊
BRAVO ! Angel singing
Gorgeous performance.
So excellent!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Impeccable!
Is Toby related to Dale Carr?

castrati? the voice, reminds me of Farinelli
This is called countertenor. And yes, these days countertenors are closest to castrati voices of old
Quite ordinary performance.
Lack of dynamic variance, any sweetness. He looks and sounds bored singing it.
Love to hear you do better 😂😂😂😂👎🤡
Stunning!
