I was so fortunate know him personally. He was most generous down to earth wonderful human being and a great friend . I got to know him while doing his shows in the 90S in small ghazal community in Denver Colorado.

@@AbhishekChaudhary-hl4gy Everyone has their own perspective but in reality Mehdi Sahab was Senior and also he was the one who put ghazal singing on the map....He taught the right way of singing Ghazals in discipline....and first of all Mehdi Hassan sahab was a Classical Singer before being a Ghazal Singer so he had a strong foundation of Classical ragas which helped him in ghazals....and finally as a music student i listened almost every ghazal singer on the planet and with no doubt i can say no one can beat Mehdi sahab....❤

Agreed. I was just saying that just because singer is senior and has laid foundation in particular genre doesn't mean his predecessors can't leave their own legacy, and sometimes the legacy may be bigger than the the person himself who introduced the world about that particular genre. I'll give you classical example of Kishore Kumar who wasn't a learned singer, before him Rafi sahab were there, Mukesh ji, Manna Dey and few others who were considered backbone of then indian music industry and they were classically trained and what not. But then cam along Kishore Kumar wanted to be actor and what he became we all know.
Mehdi ji I know is unparalleled no debates in that, but all I wanted to say that may be tragedies in life of Jagjit ji brought that pain and expression in his voice that i think he might have just a bit...dare I say surpassed him (this only being my opinion). Like his song "Honton se cho lu tum" in this song a verse somes aaksh ka sunapan mere tanha man me... The way he sings these words in concert version and in backdrop there's anklet music... It's just surreal.
