- カバ歯磨きと「カバのえさやりタイム」の様子です。天王寺動物園には現在２頭のカバ、テツオくんとティーナちゃんがいます。お食事の前にまず歯磨き。歯磨きが終わるとご褒美にバナナが口の中に置かれました。歯磨きをしてもらっているカバがテツオくんなのかティーナちゃんなのか私にはわかりません。後半はプールを水中から観察できるエリアからもう一頭のカバを撮影。上から落ちてくる草を大きな口で受け取ります。水中を泳ぐカバの表情はにっこり笑っているようにも見えます。プールに泳いでいる魚はナイルティラピアという魚で、カバと共生しています。ティラピアは水中でカバの古くなった皮膚の角質層を食べてくれるそうです。また、カバの糞も食べてくれるので、水質もきれいな状態を保てます。水は巨大なろ過装置でろ過され透明度が高く、水温は常に23度を保っているので冬だと湯気が上がることもあるそうです。
見るからに健康的に暮らしてるって分かる肌艶。綺麗な体してるな〜。
動物園というのは動物に対する知見も愛情も深まる。大切な施設だねえ。

@@bighoss7437 food has acids or better yet some food are mostly acid. Therefore, when you brush you use that same acid to harm your teeth. Another reason is you dont take shower before you play in the dirt, you take a shower after. Well it's the same concept but with your teeth. So you wait 30min giving enough time for the acids to dissipate

Very, very brave lol. I don't think I could ever be brave enough to get all up inside a grown hippos mouth. Obviously this man knows what he is doing, and the hippo looks super chill though. They probably have spent a lot of time together and have a really strong bond. Cool to see!
