I want to tell you guys a bit about this instrument:
The saz, also known as the bağlama, is a stringed musical instrument with deep roots in Turkish, Kurdish, Azerbaijani, Armenian, and Persian music traditions.
The saz/bağlama is a long-necked lute, typically made from wood, and features a rounded body and a fretted neck. The instrument comes in various sizes, including the *cura* (the smallest), *bağlama* (standard), and *divan sazı* (the largest). It usually has seven strings, grouped in courses of two or three, which can be made of gut, steel, or nylon. These strings are played with a plectrum.
The saz/bağlama has ancient origins, dating back over a thousand years. Its name, "saz," is derived from the Persian word for "instrument." The instrument evolved from earlier Central Asian lutes brought to Anatolia by migrating Turkic tribes. Over centuries, it absorbed influences from various cultures in the region, including Persian, Greek, and Arabic traditions.
In the Ottoman period, the saz became a central instrument in folk music, accompanying poets (aşık) and serving as a key element in traditional ceremonies and celebrations. It is particularly prominent in the music of the Alevi-Bektashi religious tradition in Turkey, where it often accompanies spiritual and communal songs.
In modern times, the saz/bağlama has remained a vital part of Turkish folk and popular music. It has been adapted to contemporary styles and is often used in ensembles as well as solo performances. Its significance extends beyond music, symbolizing cultural identity and continuity for many communities across the Middle East and the Caucasus.
hope you guys liked the cover😊🤍
