Made mine for $0. Used stuff i had at home and in the shed. Small trash can, with drain holes, like yours. Also some overflow holes at top on same side, just in case. A layer of upturned flower pots on bottom to keep filter media away from drain holes. Next, a large folded towel, the contents of a pillow, then a complete pillow on top pushed in tight. Pump is a HoseLock pond vacuum. Just fed the vac hose into the filter and held with a brick. 500 gallon pond. Could see fish for first time after only 5 or 6 hours.😀😀
Nice to know I'm not the only one who uses the back of a vehicle as a work surface. I have a livestock tub this size which I stopped using as a pond because I couldn't set up a filter which worked well enough to keep the water as clear as I wanted. I'll try this, thank you.
It would filter better if you had the water going in at the bottom and out at the top. That way the water would not just find the shortest route and would be forced to go through the whole of the filter.
I like a quick to the point video like this. Shoot for something and if it works you can then improve and "hide" it. Not only it filters (I hope) but you created a highly sought after water fall feature. Love it but I cannot believe it could clean up all that mess. Tell me I am wrong.
Built a filter recently. Used the filling as one layer on top of a towel, then a whole pillow on top. Water clearing nicely. I left another comment above.
yes Celeste , Polyester Fiber Fill is the same Material as Fiber Floss in the Pet Stores , that they mark up 10 times ,I buy the 5lb. box at Walmart .The Polyester is usefull for removing the "dirt" in the water column , it has to be changed every 14 days or so ,under this there should be a layer of Lava Rock , or some Substrate to establish the Bacterial colonies ,that remove Ammonia , and Nitrite , from the water .
I need to build something similar, but on a much larger scale. I have an approximately 2000 gallon pond with 20 or so fish in it. I’m thinking of a 55 gallon drum with a 4000gph pump since I need to cycle the water a couple times an hour to clear up
yes Diy. DadFl. , you are onto something there , i used a 55 Gal. Drum Pvc. , for the filter on my 5'000 Gal. Water Garden ,i filled the drum with Lava Rock too about a foot from top ,then i used two layers of Fiber fill matts , on top i put loose fiber fill ,in the summer i changed the fiber fill every 14 days ,and replaced it
You want a fine mesh covering the pump intake if to want to keep baby fish alive. And find someone with a running filter to get a bacteria innoculation.
It doesn’t work, not with fish and doesn’t clear up green water. That pond was not any bigger than my fish tank. If you fill it with more poly then it will remove solids but clogs up quickly.
I kind of did the same thing for a pond in my tegu enclosure only i had a 1/2 in piece of pvc going down the middle of the bucket that the hose goes into and drilled a single 1 1/2 inch hole at the top of the bucket with a down spout filled the bucket with media and its a bottom filtered type of thing. Havent changed shitty water in 2 yrs 😂
i got a small box pond about 90 gallon and transfering everything over to a 150 gallon pond , and i was going to throw a whole layer of black lava rock over my older substrate , the substrates only a few months old
I think the water running out into the pond should be at the top of the bucket so the yucky stuff stays at the bottom. Then you have a flush plug at the bottom. Tbh I don't think your filter will work
He was likely going to place it where the tubing attached to the sub pump, but the tubing was too small. That is why he mentioned he would likely pick up an adapter.
Hey guy, I really do appreciate your hard work and very very descriptive instructions, including like telling us that you’re putting the lid back on while you’re doing it, 😂, but I would very much appreciate it if you could tell the viewers what KIND of pond it is, me personally, I was looking for a duckpond. But yea.🙄 😔. I’m not trying to be nasty. Just a little positive feedback. Have a great one

Oh it'll work only thing here sponges will deteriorate spend the extra for filter media longer lasting prolly work on a Max of 200 maybe 300 gallons must go larger for bigger pond bins 55 gallon drums same concept though. But getting ya filtration for a good 3-4000 gallons.
Saved $500 😳
Did True Value pay to sponsor? Follow up video?
Is there a Follow up on this Video? How'd the Pond fair after some time running?
I wish you would show the pond all cleaned. Did it work or not?
Finally I get an actual simple pond filter. Thanks for sharing.
No problem! Thank you for watching 🙏
Really? Ok have a great day

Sounds good Make a video for TH-cam that sounds like a better filter than some of the other ones that are on here thanks
well a final result is the key for a diy project
Please show a follow up video. Thank you

That’s awesome. I have pretty much everything already in my garage but no lava rocks. Using a bag of river rocks and see how it does. Thanks
I really like DIY filters for ponds endless ideas. 💯🤟✌️🔥
Cool there goes old towels .sweet thanks

even though this video doesn't show the end result, there are many videos which do, and they used a similar diy filter design. so it works!
Some people use pillow batting....."the white polyester stuffing inside a pillow" as a filtration material

Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Cool video. thank you.
Great job 👍👍 thank you I going to make a pond
You’re welcome. Have fun 🤘
What a beautiful filter, wow, you know it made me think that someone had simply forgotten their paint bucket by the pond, silly me right.
good concept on the filter always good to diy the filters hope it helped filter not sure if it would clear the pond though as thats more of a uv job
Can't wait
The wait is over 🙌
Good Idea! Loved the video!@@5050fishing
Pretty snazzy idea, I can dig it.

Very nice idea! Now, build a pond!😂
I might try this with a solar pump
Good creative ideas, I learned a few things
A great Video my friend - I subscribed.
I make all my own filters as well.
Thank you 🙏
Check out my Filter videos - If you like them subscribe - I am new to the TH-cam thing.
So was the 2 sponge filters you originally had not good enough?
Green water in, green water out. Put a UV light in that bucket where the fish can't see it and in 2-3 days that water will clear right up.
I think ACE HARDWARE has the tubing cheaper because it is cut to size you ask for. A few cents a foot I think.
Did it work
It won’t clear up the green water no matter how good the filter. You need a UV light steriliser to make the water clear.
Or just change the water and start over.
@@rosemarythyme8595 only for it to green in a couple of days
Not true
Algaecide
Getting rid of algae is super easy, you just have to know what you're doing.
Is there a updated video as well? that it actually worked and where are you from as well?
You want a fine mesh covering the pump intake if to want to keep baby fish alive.
And find someone with a running filter to get a bacteria innoculation.
All the heavy muck that would usually settle at the bottom of the filter will just get washed back into the pond.
I have a 2000 litre pond, think I am going to copy your design but much bigger, looks simple enough to build.
Thank you!!!
What? No fish? That's like doing a cake baking video and never showing us the cake at the end.
Dommage que tu ne montre pas avant après sinon bonne vidéo 😊
Do you take out the filter in the pump ?
Why was your water so green, it seems like there are too much Algae?
👍🇭🇲 I like the way you made your filter for your pond I'm going to make make one for my pond the way you make yours thank you for showing on TH-cam

What tubing material are you using?
Put in a pipe and valve down low to drain the muck. Try from the bottom up filtration, with out flow up top. No disassemble required
i wouldnt have went with regular kitchen sponges but good shit
i got a small box pond about 90 gallon and transfering everything over to a 150 gallon pond , and i was going to throw a whole layer of black lava rock over my older substrate , the substrates only a few months old
What is the best budget filter I can get
Only need 10mm lava rock.😊
How did you reset up the bucket?
I'm sure you learned that it didn't get rid of the green water. Unless you did several water changes.
😊
I think the water running out into the pond should be at the top of the bucket so the yucky stuff stays at the bottom. Then you have a flush plug at the bottom. Tbh I don't think your filter will work
Would have liked to see the results two days later! But great otherwise.
Where do you put the hose clamps?
He was likely going to place it where the tubing attached to the sub pump, but the tubing was too small. That is why he mentioned he would likely pick up an adapter.
You need more plant floating plants t water lettuce or hyacinth's

If you can build a duck pond for 20$ more power to ya.

I’d of went black pump hose not clear
Too much sun or light causes the green water.
PVC cutter, hacksaw.🤷♂️
You are not showing us the end results … disappointed
I believe it really works, but looks kind of ugly. Sorry for that.
Buddy if it didn’t work delete the damn video
What didn’t work?
Did it make the water clear
Hello did it work or not because I want to try it
Lava rocks noo
Works as an super expensive but doesn’t shows results 🤡 😂
I wasted my time, because u didn’t show later in a few days if it worked !
