Big Waves at Hulopo'e Bay in Lanai

- The waves were big and it always looks worse from the beach. They are seasoned swimmers and understand how to dive into the waves. I am still not a fan of the large waves when breaking so close to shore so they got out after the waves started to get big (as you will see)!

It's amazing how quickly the ocean can turn. Its a place to really be respected!!
Beautiful beach though!!
It's not so much the waves you need to watch out for on a calm-ish beach, it's the tides. Always pay attention to local tidal patterns, and don't ignore any safety warnings, then the ocean is fun for all as much as it can be dangerous. :)
@@thewr0ngchild you're very right!!
It’s amazin

the ocean on lana’i is so beautiful and it’s not scary when you’re actually in the water :) i am local to hawai’i tho
Me to
Something about water frightens me but this ocean looks beautiful
2 days ago, the beach I've swam at for over 40 years nearly got me.
Swam out on a rip, intending to swim sideways out and back to the beach.
But the rip turned sideways and kept pushing me back into the outgoing rip.
Plenty if surfers around to ask for help tho.
In the end one gave me a ride right out to the end of a peninsular and I swam to the rocks and climbed out.
I'm not a bad swimmer, and I've been swimming there all my life, but I reckon I only had about 15-20 minutes left in me
Sounds extremely humbling. Glad you made it out! Take care 🌿🕊️🌎
damn take care bro
You can always count on Lanai for beautiful beaches! My grandmother grew up there, we visit her house every summer. If you are interested, it is the big house on the corner by the big bushes and trees. Huge lot, small house. Has a seperate garage too.
We lived in ichibans house. My dad was prez of Dole . Went to elementary school there, then moved to Oahu, then PI , then back to Lanai. You ever find the first train in Hawaii there? Keamoku (sp)
Kihei aswell, cam 2 an 3 beaches are beautiful
I'm not even a parent but I can almost feel what she's saying (they're okay). I suppose one has to "let em be" as kids, and really, really develop your faith.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS..."DIVE UNDER, KIDS"😵💫
Fantastic beach!
You have to respect it but you can’t be scared. You have to relax out there. And definitely swim out toward the waves so they don’t break on you. That’s when trouble happens.
Que hermosura por favor!! Hasta te dan ganas de tomar esa agua 💧 😂
As a new, first-time parent who tries to stay cool but whose new, overprotective instincts are firing at all times, I’m watching this video & thinking, Okay they got to do the big waves twice, haha isn’t that great… NOW CALL EM BACK, MOM!!
Don’t mess with the power of nature
I ain't gonna lie that looks fun
I dont want to brag but I broke my neck on a much smaller wave. 12 years ago. All turned out well. The waves don't bother me but the thought of sharks is always on my mind. Lol
dive under kids! this audio/video should be played everywhere, that is how you save lives.
wow! What a wonderful place!
Perfectly fun waves 🌊☀️🌴

There are 2 Surf 🏄♂️ breaks
1. Firstly we have Hulopo’e Bay This works on a Big Ground Swell of any direction 3 metres plus this is a Thick Heavy and Bowly Shore Break Wave 🌊 that is for experienced Bodyboarders and this wave 🌊 doesn’t break like 👍 any surf 🏄♂️ Beach 🏖Waves 🌊 between 1-15ft.
2. Lastly we have Hulopo’e Head this works on a NE - SE Swell and a Easterly Onshore Wind 💨 which inflates the surf 🏄♂️ This is a Nice 👍 Smooth ride that will only break in Conditions 2 metres plus the Headland blocks 100 💯 metres of the 1km beach 🏖 on the Southern End.

This people are not aware is the danger; in a relatively short time people get exhausted which makes impossible to go back to the beach...
When I went there a huge wave WAY bigger than the ones you see in the video crashed onto me, I almost drowned!!
Same. You just gotta learn your place in nature and follow the saying, "When in doubt, don't go out!"
My anxiety level went up so high just looking at the video
BRAVOO😁😁😁
That’s a mini tsunami 🌊

When you live in Brazil: first time?
Everyday there is at least 1 big wave here lmao
But dont need to be afraid, we rarely have tsunamis here.
MERMAO UM DIA TAVA NA ÁGUA, CHEGOU UMA BOMBA EM MIM, EU ACHO QUE LEVEI UNS 50 CALDO SÓ NAQUILO
Waves can reach tremendous heights all the time but are not considered tsunamis as they don't reach inland and are just caused by the wind rather than seismic activity. Some surfers have surfed hundreds of feet waves, some of which can almost be considered 'tsunami' height in surfing contests etc.
I've been to a beach in Australia that has like 2 to 5 meter waves all the time it's awesome for surfing
They say the f*ckin smog is the f*ckin reason you got such beautiful f*ckin sunsets.
i like big waves
Is that chunami

Thanks to this video now i have a new Phobia
In Pacífico Sea it would be a regular wave.

Big wave compliance 2: a large wave of northeast
I saw this on Jurassic world 2
It mite be full moon day or new moon
The waves where I am from are more bigger than those waves
big is a relative and subjective word unless is precisely measured in whatever you want such as feet meters or tons of liquid haha
Oh my God oooooooj
I would go right under water bc that best choice to go underwater
Those are not giant waves. Typical high tide coming in.
luckily they survived
it's a tsunami of power 0.20
How much beautiful this water is no matter. Its enough to take life.

Beautiful surfing conditions, why no boards out? x
It isn't a public beach, and waves like this are very rare. It's a private island.
@@omikredarhcs8221 they’re not that big
@@wispy3483 Only during storms. The waves would wash all the way thru to the small boat harbor. I lived there.
Why in the world would you let your kids swim out there?

On the very day when this video was shot, 73 bathers were killed by these horrible breakers! What a horror, but nobody speaks about it. Most had their necks brocken as they are slammed onto the sand beneath. Entire generations heartbroken. Terrible. Terrible.
Nobody speaks about it because it never happened.
That's small
what the fuck are we lookin at m8?
I've seen bigger.
Dont u save ur kids huh?
