I especially liked the one with the Lotus where he convinced a customer they didn't want the car, they HAD to buy the car to satisfy their urge to buy it. I would've paid to see that unfold before me.
Ed's the kind of guy who has a slow sales month and decides that he is going to make 4 difficult sales to make up for it. Gets them all done in a week like it wasn't that hard or unusual.
Overwhelming Euphoria Exactly what I was thinking. I feel for the poor guys that got stuck with cars that should have been lemon lawed. They paid full market value for cars that rightfully should have been heavily discounted. Just because he didn’t see the final results of all that shady conniving doesn’t mean that the people who finally ended up owning those lemons didn’t get royally shafted. Thought process seems to be, ‘who cares if someone I might never meet gets screwed, my clients came out on top.’ If I were Ed, I’d be embarrassed to tell that story.
It's not a loophole. It's telling the manufacturer, "my customer wants to sue you. And you'll lose big if he does. You should probably see if you can make him happy before that happens." As for someone unknowingly buying a used lemon... they are supposed to fix the issue before they resell it. The problem is, with lemons, it's usually not easy to figure out what the root issue is.
God Ed can just tell me car story after car story and I would never get bored. His voice just keeps ahold of your attention so well. He should do podcast and tv! (If he doesn't already, I'm not sure if he does)

Andrew Campbell I've got a one of a kind older car. It's a '78 Porsche 928. It's Vin number won't pull up in your app because it's too old? But i still want the info as I'm trying to decide how and where to sell it... It's the 51st 928 ever built... My understanding was that the first 50 cars were used for testing and promotion, that this car could be the first commercially available production car. It's got some really hard to find options too...

I feel for these owners, I just picked up my first Mercedes two months ago, and just yesterday I got it back from the fourth visit to the dealer in four weeks. Driving back home, the car already has another issue. Love the thing to death but boy am I glad this thing is under warranty. Not even 20,000 miles on the clock and I already have a whole list of issues racked up.
Gearhead Daily you’ll be saying that until you purchase one of few cars that have issues as such in the video, especially when you pay a good amount for a car that’s expected to be perfected. I’m not bashing car brands that have these issues because you can’t perfect every car, but still.

My "exotic" lemon law purchase was a used 2014 focus w/double clutch auto which had to be replaced 4 times in 45k. Got enough back to cover the note. Shrewd negotiating for lyfe.
Dam....I wish I knew that about trade assist. I had a 2016 Volt that the touchscreen would go out on over and over again and the dealer could only fix it for about 5 minutes before it happened again. I went through the Florida Lemon Law process, which is a tough state to do it through and the BBB was the mediator and eventually I had Chevy buy it back. They refused at first but once I was going to arbitration they magically accepted the car, I dropped it off at the dealership, they gave me a check for ALL of my payments so far and took the car.
This video is great. He gives so much great info that will definitely help me later in life. Especially since I didn’t realize that mclarens had lots of problems
Sold a 330ci and had to put a transmission in it 3 weeks later. 2 months after the car was back on the road, I had to put an engine in it. he customer got a 330ci as a loaner both times and was as happy as one could be with his car being gutted every other month. When the car was pulled out of the garage and the side of it was shredded from scraping along the door tracks by a careless mechanic...... we lemoned it. Ahh the good old days!
@2:20 you'd think the manufacturers would keep spare vin numbers on hand for the case of lemon law cars, just swap out the defective part(s), attach new vin, sell as used for a greater price with the new clean title associated with the new vin. Prob more trouble than it's worth, but just a thought.
@DBLOCKJERSEY , It doesn't really matter what vin is on the parts, rather the vin that's registered with the DoT/DMV (the car's registration).. So it's the vin that's behind the windshield and on the door is all that matters. This is why you can legally swap parts in your car and never worry about the vin number on the replacement engine, or transmission, etc you take from a donor car or purchase through a repair shop. So often a car that's had a lot of repair work over the years could literally have numerous vin numbers on it's various parts.. but all that matters is the one behind the windshield and on the door to the DMV and police.
You need to get one of your RICH FRIENDS OR BUSINESS ASSOCIATES and get back in running a dealership you’re built for that kinda work. You’d kill it for any dealership owner I would love to see the profits on the deals you put together!!! Front n backend.
Pre qualify, hit the phones and call every customer in the data base. Send out letters, stating you want their trade. Was one of the top salesman in the highest grossing store in a group that owned over 90 dealerships. To sell 30 cars @ 2700 a copy on a new Honda was insane. It’s the used and lease that got the cash though. If I was hungover, I set twiddling my thumbs. At 21 I owned a half of million dollar home, two 954’s a m3 and is330. Don’t make 12 hrs a day , days off, seem so easy. It’s a business

Problem is with etched vin numbers on motor parts. If it’s a vin plate screwed on sure. But I am sure there are plenty of etchings on all cars.
