      The childrensdaycare (where I formerly worked) had a babybox outside. Only during storm or bad snowy moments (youknow, frost on the crib etc) there'd be no baby outside. But a lovely winterday with hardly any wind, well, the baby was put outside.
      Regularly checked ofcourse and with a babymonitor, incase they started crying.

    Babies sleeping outside during winter is pretty normal here in Finland too. I myself was put to sleep outside (bundled up carefully of course) when I was a baby and I still enjoy sleeping in colder temperatures.

      Same in Estonia, babies are often bundled up and put to sleep in their prams outside all through the winter (and other seasons). Sometimes on the top part of the pram on the balcony or just outside your window. 🤷‍♀️

    As sad as it is, that tall couple may well have been able to find each other fairly easily because people with any kind of 'abnormality' like that would probably mean they would end up having to earn their living by being exhibited in a 'freak shows back then. Disabled people, especially those whose disabilities made them 'stand out in a crowd' or look very visibly different, mostly couldn't just live a normal life and almost definitely couldn't get a normal job in those days.
    As a disabled person myself, it makes me very thankful that things have changed a lot since then, although we still have a long way to go to really make things right for disabled people, and some and those with disabilities in some countries still have a much tougher time than others.

      @@normalhuman9878 yeah, it can be hard to get a diagnosis. I didn't get mine until my 30's although I'd been first taken to doctors with pain at the age of 3 and had be quite severely disabled for several years by the time I got the diagnosis, and had therefore been actively seeking a diagnosis for quite some time. I was just repeatedly put down as faking, attention seeking, or it being all in my head, which had lead to a lot of wrong treatment and mistreatment, so finally getting the diagnosis was such a relief. I hope you're able to get a diagnosis at some point so that you can access any support you need no or in the future

    10:49 another fact about the people inside these statues: They were monks who wanted to achieve enlightenment so they decided to mummify themselves inside a tight space by consuming just seeds and some other stuff that would be rather toxic to us nowadays for years. If their body is mummified they would be considered to achieved enlightenment and then be put into statues like the one in the article, if not then they would just be buried normally.

    The statue containing a skeleton - that's a buddhist (or at least Tibetan) tradition - when a Lama (that's their word for high-ranking priest) dies, he's put into this sitting position, and encased in gold. They have hundreds (if not thousands) of them, and I'm not entirely sure how many or under what circumstances, but some of them are actually those which are used as decorations of the temples and monasteries.

    • @GuukanKitsune
      @GuukanKitsune 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The official method of Sokushinbutsu was developed in northern Japan, but various local flavors of such extreme attempts at physical detachment are found all over Asia. It is possible that this skeleton was a Lama, whose bodies were often posed and preserved in gold upon death, or a monk who achieved enlghtenment via Sokushinbutsu... or even both, these aren't mutually exclusive.

    So, the thing about the notre dame is that Ubisoft's rendition can't actually help, as the original Notre Dame was copyrighted, so they legally weren't allowed to make a perfect recreation and as such had to make something similar but legally distinct, visually. Also they added aspects that were purely there for gameplay, like windows which open in-game but don't in real life.

      @@Icewind007 : Helping rebuild the Notre Dame. That's the stunt. Ubisoft is a company. Companies don't do things like that out of the goodness of their heart. I'm not saying they didn't do it. I'm saying they did it to bring more attention to themselves and their game. If they really cared about anything but publicity and making themselves look good, where was that money when the Amazon was burning? And what about the massive island of garbage in the middle of the ocean? Not to mention the way the game development industry as a whole treats its employees. Companies are not your friend. They're out for profit and nothing else.

    5:31 No, it's not a signature, because they're not actually _signing_ anything using writing. It serves the same purpose, but it's not the same thing. In particular, the use of hanko has some different implications and pros and cons compared to the written signatures used in other countries:
    - They can be more difficult to forge, since the resulting marking can be compared precisely to the stamp that supposedly made it, to determine whether it was actually made by that stamp or not.
    - On the flip side, it is also possible to steal someone's hanko and use it to sign documents as if you were them (signatures aren't physical things, so they can't be stolen). This does actually happen sometimes in Japan, and depending on what people do with it, it can cause a lot of problems.
    - It can also be a big problem if you lose your hanko, because you are then unable to do most things involving legal or financial stuff at all (until you get a replacement and register your new one, etc, which can be a bit of an ordeal).
