5/6 Weaving.
Under Monty Don's watchful eye, three hopefuls who want to learn how to weave are put through their paces by the country's leading practitioners. The trainees are immersed in the world of weaving, attempting to sell their woven wares to the general public. Their final test is to both design and weave three-metre lengths of fabric -- to be judged by Michelle Bowen from the Arts Council and Angela Swan from the Worshipful Company of Weavers.
During the 1500s, when there was a lot of political and religious turmoil, the weavers became an important source of intellectual activity and the opinions of the weavers was important because they were one of the few groups of people that spent all day sitting in one place, talking about current issues; they engaged in debates and were thus able to clarify and isolate their ideas about society at large.
I started weaving this month, 5/2018. My first progect was a 4" by 18" denim. That was cool. My second project is a tartan that is about 24" by 120", or 2ft by 10ft.
"It's not something you can get a book and teach yourself" - er, yes it is. That's how I learnt!

I have a couple of simple rigid heddle looms, but have recently watched TH-cam videos on Saori Weaving Looms, and am now saving up for one. ;) I also spin and love creating my own yarns. ;) Loved this series, and will be watching the others.

There's a saying among weavers that goes "you've gotta be warped to weave". We all laugh but it's true - so I break up weaving into lots of individual tasks, warping is among the tasks that begin the project.
I have 2 looms and a spindle a pin loom zoom loom and a asford 32 inch and I love using both looms.
A _master_ might have started her students with a small tabletop loom: the principles are the same, and the students' confidence would have gotten a boost before they tackled a floor loom. Methinks the lady wants to make sure people think what she does is a mystery not accessible to just anyone....

I like that's just for will the pattern about we from very make weaving loom with your Baby Wolfs floor loom.
If you have a good teacher, it isn't as complicated as this. This teacher leaves the students too much on their own. While they were winding the warp on the board, she needed to be more present with Each of the students. If the warp is done correctly, you wouldn't have as much trouble with the rest. There would not be with missing threads, nor the gnarled mess that 2 out of 3 students ended up with.
Weaving classes are not cheap, especially when everything is provided by the teacher. So make sure that you take a class from someone that truly teaches, instead of coming out of a class without learning all of the skills of a very beginner weaver, well enough to make a simple piece of cloth.

My teacher only showed me how to warp the loom,and throw the shuttle. The rest I learned by my mistakes, as well as owning almost every weaving book that has been printed...lol, as well as many "lost" and hard to find Historical Weaving Drafts.
There are different types of Weaving Looms. Go online and study what they are.
There are also some Excellent resources at a website called Weavolution. They were down for a bit for working and updating the website. It is HUGE! And plenty of experienced weavers that are all too willing to share their knowledge of weaving, and all things Fiber.
I'm going to list a few books that are of great value to a beginning weaver.
The first 3 books are a Series on their own. I have known people who have taught themselves how to weave from these books.

I just remembered, I do know of someone in England. His father was an awesome rug weaver and is sorely missed by the community. I don't know if his son is teaching or not, but I do know, last time I checked, he is working.
His name is Jason Collingwood. His father was Peter Collingwood, (my generation)...lol. Jason is at www.rugweaver.co.uk
He teaches Rug Weaving, but I'm sure he could lead you in the right direction for a great beginner teacher in the UK. Much better than I. :-)
I have been to a weaving class and I never got the hang of the warping board. I now weave on a simpler rigid heddle loom and I am able to do so much on it. I can direct warp to it, so no warping board, and I love my weaving journey which I have been on for more than 2 years now.

Rigid Heddle Looms are Great!
You can make a LOT on it! And it is such a nice size too. Would love to be able to travel with my loom, and still Weave!! ;-)
I just got an Inkle Loom. It's a Peruvian Loom. So I can take that when I travel. I'm going to make my heddles today. And that makes 5 looms I have. I'm almost done restoring a 26" Gilmore Floor Loom. I am supposed to be disabled, with growths on the inside of my spine, no matter how much pain I'm in, I can't help it...I'm a weaver first. lol
I also have a 56" weaving width Macomber Floor Loom, with 10 Harnesses, (shafts).
I have a Mighty Wolf Floor Loom with 4 Harnesses, 36" weaving width.
And an older Newcomb Studio Loom, 4 harness 60" weaving width, as well as being very deep, so it produces a tighter warp which is used for my Blankets for Bed, and Saddle.
My Blankets for Bed, are the original older drafts of The Early American Coverlet. I thought it would be neat to revive them. :-)

Ashford Sampleit Loom which has an 8" width
Ashford Knitters Loom with a 28" weaving width
Ashford Inkle Loom which I can make an Inkle up to 134"
and a homemade Tapestry Loom
I am loving using all of these. I am slowly building up a library of books with patterns for me to try out. I have also started spinning my own yarn. And through this process I am respecting this form of craft so much more. Once you start reading patterns and how much yarn is needed just for a simple garment is amazing.
I am struggling with my own health issues but I wont stop weaving - when I am down with my health - my first goal is to always get back behind my looms again. I cant stop now - I am addicted :)
I have a table loom, I can weave like mad....it’s the warping that I have trouble with.

hahahaha, yes weaving is very difficult to learn and it can be hard on your back too.
