- Tchaikovsky, Nutcracker, Suite from the ballet, Op. 71a: A collection of eight excerpts from the ballet The Nutcracker by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
In 1890, Tchaikovsky was commissioned by the Imperial Mariinsky Theater to compose a ballet based on E. T. A. Hoffmann's fairy tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.
Then, in January 1891, he received a libretto from Marius Petipa, chief choreographer of the Mariinsky Theatre, and began composing in earnest.
On March 30th, after the first draft of the first act, he will go to the US concert, and when he was passing through France, he came across a new instrument, the Celesta, and used it in his piece.
On July 18, the sketch was completed, and in February 1892, he entered the orchestral arrangement and completed the total score on April 18. However, before completion, he was suddenly asked by the Russian Music Association to hold a self-composed concert on March 31, and he performed 8 excerpts from this piece.
The response was enthusiastic, and later these pieces were classified as [The Nutcracker Suite] and became widely loved. The complete ballet premiered on December 18, 1892, but was not a success due to choreographic problems. However, it soon gained popularity and was recognized as a masterpiece.
It consists of 8 pieces in total.
The first piece, ‘Miniature Overture’, is in the form of a sonata with no developmental part, and the string and woodwind instruments describe the cheerful excitement of a child’s heart.
The second piece, “March,” depicts the joyous images of children having a Christmas party.
The third piece, ‘Dance Of the Sugar Plum Fairy’, uses a celesta to make the atmosphere mysterious.
4th piece ‘Russian dance. Trepak (Russian Dance. Trépak)’ is a song in which the Russian folk dance, trepak, is intensely repeated.
The fifth piece, “Arabian Dance,” describes the taste of coffee with an Arabian-style melody that creates a strange atmosphere.
The sixth piece, ‘Chinese Dance’, describes the Chinese tea that the prince recommends to Marie.
The seventh piece, “Reed Flutes,” depicts a female shepherd dancing while blowing a toy flute.
The 8th piece ‘Waltz Of The Flower’ is the most famous among all pieces. It depicts the lady-in-waiting of the Candy Fairy dancing to an elegant waltz melody.
Famous performances by Russian conductors include the 1981 recording with Evgeny Mravinsky and the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra and the 1978 recording with Mstislav Rostropovich and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
Meanwhile, Austrian conductor Herbert von Karajan's two recordings, the 1961 recording with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the 1966 recording with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, are sophisticated and sensuous performances, and the American conductor James Levine and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's 1966 recording. The 1992 recording and the 2008 recording by the British conductor Roger Norrington and the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra have also been praised. - เพลง

차이콥스키, 호두까기 인형 모음곡(Tchaikovsky, Nutcracker, Suite from the ballet, Op. 71a): 러시아의 작곡가 표트르 일리치 차이콥스키의 발레곡 호두까기 인형 가운데 8곡을 발췌한 모음집.
1890년 차이콥스키는 황실 마린스키 극장으로부터 E.T.A 호프만(E. T. A. Hoffmann)의 동화 '호두까기 인형과 생쥐 왕(The Nutcracker and the Mouse King)'을 원작으로 한 발레의 작곡을 의뢰받았다.
이어 1891년 1월 마린스키 극장의 수석 안무가 마리우스 프티파(Marius Petipa)의 대본을 받고 본격적인 작곡에 착수했다.
1막의 초고가 끝난 3월 30일 미국 공연을 가게 되는데, 프랑스를 경유할 때 새로운 악기인 첼레스타를 알게 되어 이 악기를 곡에 사용하게 된다.
7월 18일 스케치를 완성했고, 1892년 2월 관현악 편곡에 들어가 4월 18일 총보를 완성했다. 그런데, 완성전 갑작스럽게 러시아 음악협회로부터 3월 31일 자작 연주회를 열어달라는 요청을 받아 이 곡에서 8곡을 발췌해 공연했다.
반응은 뜨거웠고, 이후 이 곡들은 [호두까기 인형 모음곡]으로 분류되어 널리 사랑받게 되었다. 발레 전곡은 1892년 12월 18일 초연되었는데, 안무상의 문제로 성공을 거두지 못했다. 하지만 얼마안가 걸작으로 인정 받으며 인기를 얻었다.
전체 8곡으로 이루어져 있다.
제1곡 ‘작은 서곡(Miniature Overture)’은 발전부가 없는 소나타 형식으로 현과 목관 악기가 경쾌하게 들뜬 어린이의 마음을 묘사했다.
제2곡 ‘행진곡(March)’은 크리스마스 파티를 하는 아이들의 흥겨운 모습을 그려냈다.
제3곡 ‘사탕요정의 춤(Dance Of the Sugar Plum Fairy)’은 첼레스타(celesta)가 사용되어 분위기를 신비롭게 해준다.
제4곡 ‘러시아의 춤. 트레팍(Russian Dance. Trépak)’은 러시아의 민속무곡인 트레팍이 강렬하게 반복되는 곡이다.
제5곡 ‘아라비아의 춤(Arabian Dance)’은 아라비아풍의 선율이 묘한 분위기를 자아내는 곡으로 커피의 맛을 묘사했다.
제6곡 ‘중국의 춤(Chinese Dance)’은 왕자가 마리에게 권하는 중국의 차를 묘사했다.
제7곡 ‘갈대피리의 춤(Reed Flutes)’은 여자 목동이 장난감 피리를 불면서 춤을 추는 모습을 그려냈다.
제8곡 ‘꽃의 왈츠(Waltz Of The Flower)’는 전곡 중 가장 유명하다. 사탕요정의 시녀들이 우아한 왈츠 선율에 맞춰 춤을 추는 모습을 묘사했다.
러시아 지휘자의 명연으로는 예프게니 므라빈스키(Evgeny Mravinsky)와 레닌그라드 필하모닉 오케스트라(Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra)의 1981년 녹음, 므스티슬라프 로스트로포비치(Mstislav Rostropovich)와 베를린필하모니관현악단의 1978년 녹음이 유명하다.
한편 오스트리아의 지휘자 헤르베르트 폰 카라얀의 두 종, 빈필하모니관현악단과의 1961년 녹음과 베를린필하모니관현악단과의 1966년 녹음은 세련되고 감각적인 명연이며, 미국의 지휘자 제임스 레바인(James Levine)과 빈필하모니관현악단의 1992년 녹음, 영국의 지휘자 로저 노링턴(Roger Norrington)와 슈투트가르트 라디오 심포니 오케스트라(Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra)의 2008년 녹음도 훌륭하다는 평을 받았다.
