I never thought we would see the day that all of the Ultra series will be released on Blu Ray. I just ordered Ultra Q and Ultraman. This all seems too good to be true. Thank you Mill Creek!
Kamen Rider seems to be with Toei, which would require a whole different set of licenses. I would say if we want more Japanese TV on Blu-ray, the best thing we can do is support this stuff financially by buying what's released. Other companies will be watching to see what the sales figures for these are, and if these releases prove to be profitable for Mill Creek and the license holder, we're more likely to see similar shows picked up for the U.S. market.
@@CerealAtMidnight Let me recommend to you MEGABEAST INSPECTOR JUSPION ! This one, also from Toei, is now available, ALL 46 episodes in standard definition on blu ray (all on ONE disc!). For a show from the 80's, the picture quality and color amazed me. English subtitles are so complete that they even subbed all of the background songs. From Discotek, the people about to do the same thing with MESSAGE FROM SPACE; GALACTIC WARS (coming very soon), for those who never knew that after that original movie was such a big hit in Japan, Toei made a full action TV series out of it.
It's cool to know that both steelbook and traditional editions have the booklets. Most of the time there are differences in physical content between the two. By the way I just built my Blu-Ray/ DVD shelves like you. It is one of the best projects I have ever done! Thanks for the video on that. Cheers!
Thanks for the review and enthusiasm. I picked up almost everything they have available because the had a sale for the 4th of July. I got almost all of the sets for 10 bucks or under. Really enjoying Ultra Q and I love Kaiju. Havent watched Ultraman since I was a kid
My dad grew up watching Ultraman in the 60s and/or 70s (not sure when they broadcasted in the US). He's the reason I'm passionate about watching kaiju shows and films, especially Godzilla. My first experience watching Ultraman was when he ordered a VHS tape from Blockbuster back in the '90s for purchase. It only had a few episodes, but I enjoyed them a lot. Before that, there was a SNES game that I enjoyed playing as a kid. I loved the sound effects and abilities Ultraman had. He's such a cool protagonist, and I'm happy to see his franchise becoming more internationally popular. I do remember the Americanized version of Gridman and enjoying that, too, in the '90s. Many of us in the US would know it better as Superhuman Samurai: Syber Squad, but I can't wait to purchase this entire series and share the joy my dad once did growing up. Hopefully, Gridman will be included, but if I have to purchase a different collection, so be it.

Hey Heath! As always, a great review (and persuasive as I broke down and bought both the steelbook and “standard” releases-it’s all about that spine mural a la MOTU). Thanks as always for the enjoyable and informative video. I really appreciate it!
Just got mine yesterday. Drove right into "Ultra Q" and finished disc one and am onto disc two already. Loving it as much as I thought I would. Looking forward to "Ultraman". And I love the booklets.
Solid review, Heath. These look great. I have an earlier Ultraman set but not much in the way of Ultra Q. Nice booklets. Millcreek has definitely stepped up their game. Both have been added to my want list. On a similar note I was watching one of the Millcreek Gamera blu-ray collections the other night. I was really surprised by how good they looked.
Thanks! These are definitely high-prestige releases, and I have really enjoyed watching (and reporting on) Mill Creek's growth from the people that released those 50 movie public domain collections to legitimately stellar A-list releases. I have the two black and white Gamera sets from Mill Creek and I really do agree, they look so good. I never got the more modern Gamera trilogy of the 90s movies, and I think it went out of print. @@CerealAtMidnight Try to hunt down that 90s Gamera collection. All three are some of the best Kaiju movies I've ever seen, and I think they are better than the majority of the Heisei era Godzilla films.

I saw some of that (I’m a frequent Blu-ray.com forum lurker), but at some point, someone speculated that the 2013 transfer itself was an upscale, I thought. In the end, it’s all speculation, as neither Tsuburaya or Mill Creek have revealed any info about what source these new discs use, and probably never will. They look good enough to me. Especially for 21 bucks a season.

The Shout Factory releases from 2012 and 2013? I don't have those sets to compare, but I don't believe those Shout Factory sets utilized the new remasters. These will have a higher resolution, digital copies through MovieSpree, and a booklet of facts and info.
Ultraman's Remaster is a mix of a new remaster and upscale. The one on the Mill Creek set is the 2.0 remaster that was done in Japan a few years ago, that was a upscale of the previous remaster from a year before. But they further cleaned the image a bit by removing some grain and scratches
Oh, I see what you're saying. I think a lot of fans wanted to know if any cleanup has been done since 2013, which was a long time ago in terms of video mastering. I thought you were indicating Tsuburaya had done additional cleanup in recent years, but I understand now you're referring to the 2013 2.0 restoration work.
Loving all these! Grew up on Ultraman and Loved All of them from the beginning to now. Can't wait for UltraSeven is next probably the best of the original Ultraman series', period! Would Like MC to get the right to release Johnny Sokko, Spectraman , The Space Giants, Kamen Rider, so many other live action series of the time!
The only thing I really know about Ultra man is when there's an Ultra man Parody episode in an anime (it's a common 1980s anime trope to have one later episode in the series be a spoof episode). So I am interested in the series and it's nice to get everything one spot. Ultra Q intrigues me the most as it's seems like a cross between the X-files and the Twilight zone.
I’m pretty sure the lost episode you’re talking about is actually episode 12 from Ultraseven, the next series after Ultraman. It was banned because Alien Spell came from a planet suffering after a nuclear war and as such, Alien Spell has radiation burns. This offended many people because of the bombing that happened only twenty years before hand. It was however aired in the 90 on TNT which means it does have an English dub and you can find the Japanese version on TH-cam.
@Casey Wingate A user on Blu-ray.com is reporting these are region free. I might wait for one more person to verify before importing, but I know many Mill Creek discs are region free.
Cereal At Midnight that’s great thanks. Gonna wait till last one in December comes out so can bulk buy all the series so far announced, so if do get import taxed be only once. Also want to get Daimajin as hear great things. Sadly hardly any Kaiju comes to uk, The new Godzilla set is first time uk is getting the original Showa era movies, I had to import my dvds. Thanks again
That’s awesome! Ultraman Ace is hitting Blu-ray in the States in a month. It may be delayed due to current circumstances, but it’s still coming very soon!
I’m really excited to get these sets. Thanks for the review Heath. I encourage anyone that wants the English dub of ultraman to get the mill creek dvd set. It’s dirt cheap on amazon.
I'd be all over these...but they're Region locked aren't they?... :( I never found a way to unlock my European player for playing import BDs, just DVDs....
A user on Blu-ray.com is reporting both Ultraman and Ultra Q are region free, but I might wait until at least one person verifies this before importing.
@@CerealAtMidnight Thank you! I saw in your video that it does say Region A on the back, but some companies tend to just not bother putting in the region lock. Warner Bros R1 DVDs and A BDs for example always worked on my R2/B players...I hope that'll be the case here as well (though my R1 Mill Creak DVDs have always had the region protection). Will you be reviewing the SD on BD US release of "Mega Beast Investigator Juspion" as well? If you like Ultraman, that's probably gonna be right up your alley too :) It's also another release that I hope isn't actually region locked.
I would LOVE to review Mega Beast Investigator Juspion, especially since I've heard it really tries to chase Star Wars, but I haven't bought it yet. For now I'll just say that it's on my radar and I do want to grab it when I can! If I hear anything else about the region coding on these Ultraman discs, I'll pass it on.
I will definitely be grabbing these. I've only seen Ultraman (the first series and the new series on Netflix). But I have been wanting to watch all of the series. Now I can! I am hoping that Mill Creek can eventually release the Zone Fighter series and maybe even the complete Hanna-Barbera Godzilla series.
Oh this is fucking amazing... I've only just heard about this, I live in the UK but I have an all region player so I'm all good. Ultra Q is one of my favourites TV shows of all time!! Already got it on DVD but the fact that it's on blu ray now is amazing!! And also Ultraman and Ultraseven which I also love, own on DVD and will rebuy on blu ray. What's even more amazing is that they're continuing and possibly releasing the entire Ultra series on blu ray.... Which holy shit... Is such incredible news! I hope they also release the other Ultra Q series, Dark Fantasy and Neo, as I've never seen all of their episodes because I can't find them all online.
The good news is that you’re covered either way, as Ultra Q and Ultraman are confirmed to be region free! And yes, Mill Creek is releasing the entire franchise on Blu-Ray. They’ve already put out five complete series since October, and Return of Ultraman and Orb: The Origin Saga arrive in February, with Ace, Taro, Leo, Zero, and X scheduled for the spring and summer. That’s around a dozen compete Ultraman shows in about nine months. And they aren’t stopping there! It’s a really exciting time!
I am thinking of ordering the standard on Amazon I love the Mural design and think it would look good on my shelf! Though the images on Amazon don't show the mural images on either series..
I want to reiterate Heath's call to support releases like this. I recently noticed that Mill Creek's second volume of Gamera films on Blu-Ray is no longer available through their site. New copies still sporadically show up on Amazon and elsewhere. But that's half the original Gamera films out of print on BR. I don't know if Mill Creek lost the license or sales didn't merit continued production. But it amounts to the same thing. We have to support these releases or they'll go away.
I'm very psyched for this series though I can't afford any credit card purchases right now. I'd rather not buy them for the series I already have on DVD (Ultraman and Ultraseven), but I might end up doing that too to make the spines match. Really eager for continuing what I haven't seen. As far as I know only Ultraman was dubbed in English anyway (plus a few test episodes of Ultraman Ace) and the missing episode comes from Ultraseven (it had to do with radiation victims and was protested at the time in Japan). If you want to know more about Tsuburaya there's an excellent book by August Ragone.
If you want the English dub the complete season is available in the u.s. I got it from dollar general for $10 I plan to keep that with the steelbook editions
So they're not really brand new restored transfers... I mean to us out here in the west they are brand new but out in Japan these transfers were made about 5 years ago....6 years ago for Ultra Q and 5 for Ultraman otakumode.com/news/51ceb1ecee96ab500a059b47/ldquo-Ultraman-rdquo-Blu-ray-Box-Sets-to-Begin-Releasing-on-July-10-ldquo-Ultraman-Day-rdquo
Most likely. Nothing official has been stated by either company, as far as I know. Honestly, they look good for a show that's over fifty years old, and I'm quite happy. I don't expect Tsuburaya to remaster these shows again any time soon.
i hope to complete all the of ultraman collections one day i already have the original series and anime series tiga and the 90's usa series and i have a rare vhs video ultraman animated movie ultraman the adventure bigins made by the assciation of tsuburaya productions and hanna-barbera productions and i herd its on blu-ray only in japan i hope mill creek will release it on dvd and bl-ray in region one one day soon for the ultraman collection
They make double wide steelbook case, but i don't like them, they don't fit with the rest of my steelbooks Also, if you're worried about stacked discs, what are you doing with your DVDs/Blu-Rays? Playing football?
Right? I’m kind of OCD about my discs, but I take care of them and almost never have any issues. Care goes a long way. I mean, I get it, but stacking is almost always fine.
Considering the bizarre nature of seventies Showa-Era kaiju and tokusatsu, that's some of the stuff I'm most excited about having in my collection. And Ultraman Jack landed in North America weeks ago alongside the Orb Origin Saga crew! th-cam.com/video/YOwtktSLHRY/w-d-xo.html
Now I just need someone to get the European license for those, so I can get Blu-rays that will work on my R-2 Blu-ray player in Germany. Interest in Ultraman is still minimal in Germany, though. We only have a small collector fandom for Godzilla, maybe Gamera, but Ultraman is a non-issue here, so it's unlikely that European Blu-ray discs will ever be made. You have it very good with these in the States, I tell you for sure.
@@CerealAtMidnight That's awesome. I had missed the part about them being region-free. I don't come across that much anymore, at least not in mainstream media. Thank you so much.
I didn't mention it in the video, as we didn't know yet. It's only been confirmed in the last few days via users at Blu-ray.com. But hopefully someone does license these for Europe. A UK company called Indigo Entertainment have some involvement in these releases, so I'm wondering if they have plans for Britain and Europe.
@@CerealAtMidnight It's still new to me. So far, the only official Ultraman 1966 episodes I have (even dubbed into English) are on an ancient VHS-NTSC video cassette I can no longer play. I've been interested in the Ultraman franchise for a long time, and I'm a sucker for those early years.
Those steelbooks looks so good. But standard version is more practical and that mural... Orginal japanese with subs is in my opinion how you should watch things. Dub is taking something off from them for me. And the science team always do science, because their work it's too advanced for us and too compilcated to explain ;)
For once I got on the Steelbooks and was all hyped for it, then they discontinued them. So once you have this hypothetical Ultraman complete collection, the steelbooks, Ultraman 80, and The Ultraman are going to be weird looking and out of place.
Pass... Come on , no English dubbed? Why make the effort if you won't go all out? Probably re package from Blu-ray from Japan. , Even the Godzilla blurays had English and Japanese versions.
Effort has nothing to do with it. We have no idea what the specifics are, or if Tsuburaya is allowing the dubs to be licensed. Speculation is that they are not. We choose not to assume the worst and try to give the benefit of the doubt, especially when the shows in question are preserved 100 percent to their original formats, which is what's important.

I'm from the UK and in the same position. Did you have any luck?
Using the Beta-Capsule Hayata becomes ULTRAMAN!
my Ultraman bluray collection comes tomorrow (Criterion Godzilla too!) .. the thrill is real. No more grainy bootlegs. \m/ \m/
Congrats on your purchases! I hope to grab the Criterion Godzilla collection during a future sale. Have fun with all that monster madness!
The mural is SHARP! Once the limited edition steelbooks are gone, I believe the standard edition is what will be kept in print.
Mill creek is going to release return of ultraman on February 25th

On top of all of these rereleases in a year or so we’re supposed to get a Shin Ultraman movie
Hear hear!
Arrow video got the rights and they have an insane complete collection set coming out in two months.
Now someone needs to pick up the rights to Zone Fighter
I'm very psyched for this series though I can't afford any credit card purchases right now. I'd rather not buy them for the series I already have on DVD (Ultraman and Ultraseven), but I might end up doing that too to make the spines match. Really eager for continuing what I haven't seen.
As far as I know only Ultraman was dubbed in English anyway (plus a few test episodes of Ultraman Ace) and the missing episode comes from Ultraseven (it had to do with radiation victims and was protested at the time in Japan).
If you want to know more about Tsuburaya there's an excellent book by August Ragone.
Beautiful
Blu-rays look good too. Ba-dump!
I'm really hoping mill creek can also get rights to release kamen rider blu rays.
If you want the English dub the complete season is available in the u.s. I got it from dollar general for $10 I plan to keep that with the steelbook editions
So they're not really brand new restored transfers... I mean to us out here in the west they are brand new but out in Japan these transfers were made about 5 years ago....6 years ago for Ultra Q and 5 for Ultraman

(Looks at thumbnail)
Um... I think you put the wrong Ultraman logo.
We suggest no connection between the logo and the content of the video.
They make double wide steelbook case, but i don't like them, they don't fit with the rest of my steelbooks
Also, if you're worried about stacked discs, what are you doing with your DVDs/Blu-Rays? Playing football?
Right? I’m kind of OCD about my discs, but I take care of them and almost never have any issues. Care goes a long way. I mean, I get it, but stacking is almost always fine.
Oh boy. It's gonna weird out lots of NA viewers when they watch Leo, Taro and Jack's series
Aww man no English dub then idk if I'm getting them I just started on getting the Godzillas
I think for most of Ultraman, no English dub even exists.
@@CerealAtMidnight will I seen it dub on here the other shows idk but still not to have English dub is a bummer.
i hope that they make new Ultraman game
Now I just need someone to get the European license for those, so I can get Blu-rays that will work on my R-2 Blu-ray player in Germany. Interest in Ultraman is still minimal in Germany, though. We only have a small collector fandom for Godzilla, maybe Gamera, but Ultraman is a non-issue here, so it's unlikely that European Blu-ray discs will ever be made. You have it very good with these in the States, I tell you for sure.
Well, if no one picks up the license in Europe, these releases are confirmed to be region free, so you can import them without worry!
It's weird how the blu ray of Ultraman doesn't include a US dub, while the DVD does.
P.S The original Ultraman was the only Ultraman to get a US dub.
The Ultraman X set has a dub included as well. At least for the movie.
PLUS ULTRA
WAT LANGUAGE IS PLEASE.
Japanese with English subtitles.
I have never seen Ultra man.
I saw Ultraman, in black and white, when I was a kid, and Utra Seven, when I was a teenager. But I find the Netflix anime series terrible.
i love ultraman but in chinese audio no english and french erk i dont bye.
i love ultraman but japenese language no english no french erk i dont bye.
Watch ultraman zearth.Us is devoid of this great ultra movie. Even bereft of action figure merch. Fuck!!
We won't be devoid of Ultraman Zearth much longer, as I'm sure Mill Creek will be releasing it in the next year or two.
