Good take on the player issue. I enjoy the game, but recognize that there isn’t much of a future if it isn’t profitable. I’m torn between knowing the player base needs to drastically increase and also enjoying the current S&B’s community. It doesn’t bother me that I paid and others won’t, but I definitely don’t want to add a bunch of whiners and complainers to the community.
If they did do a free to play version they could maybe charge gold to take part in a hostile takeover it would keep the servers full and give people a reason to buy the full version
20 is the max server cap yeah, when I play there’s never less than 16/17 players so although it probably isn’t in the place we’d want, going F2P would be a huge slap on the face for us OG players. But that solution of campaign only would be ok.
I love this game and been playing since open beta. Doesn't bother me at all that it could become free to play. I paid for premium game. I want this game to succeed and the only way to do that is to increase number of active players. Great video sir! Thank you!
I paid for the premium to get early access. I've got over 300 hours so far and enjoyed the game content, so realistically, I've got my moneys worth from the game already. I think I would be disappointed if it went free to play in the first year after that, not so much. Hope the bag's a better colour, our kid. 😂😂
To be honest, everyone who wanted to play it badly got it already, so it does make sense. But i hope we get more shop stuff then. I'm down for buying sick skins and stuff, but the Shop refreshes soooo slow in comparison to other games

@HonestTraveller yeah I watched Luke Stephen's video..... exactly what could he tell about season two in his starter ship, still wandering around aimlessly. He made his conclusions in advance of his video. But yes, I agree that the game needs growth. But as someone who does play regularly, I will say, the core community is great. Even if it is small.

That would be the ultimate proof that the game is indeed on life support . There's two more seasons to go after this one , if they can't get the #'s I'm pretty sure they will pull the plug . This game is going to make history one way or another .
The first full priced "AAAA" game is also the first free to play "AAAA" game. It's an accomplishment, at least. Not a good accomplishment, but certainly an accomplishment.
Let me just start by saying that I absolutely love and adore Skull and Bones, I want it to be more, I want it to be the pirate game everyone is talking about I want it to “pull a No Man’s Sky” if you will. If they added more of the map, more “story” and just in general a wider variety of things to do and places to go. I’d be absolutely down for the whole free to play idea you’re pitching but the fact that the “end game grind” is kinda shallow and just a glorified mobile game wouldn’t give much incentive for newer players to buy the game in my opinion.
Ubisoft claim the player count is about 850k. I doubt it will ever go free to play except for the odd week like 30th May - 6th June which so far has been claimed by gamer rant and i checked on ubisoft but theres no confirmation i could see. If they dont produce year 2 content i will be annoyed especially as like you i paid for the premium version and have spent somewhere around £100 - £200 extra be it for premium pass and store stuff. If it did go free to play full time then i would feel robbed. On pc i think ive only seen a max player server of about 17/18.
In my experience most people saying a fame should / need to go F2P are people who either don't understand the games appeal or are too cheap to actually pay for things. I'm not against the game going F2P in the future after a few years of support, but if you look at Ubisofts track record with R6 Siege and For Honour I can't see them ever going F2P because thoer core audience loves and supports the games. I hope the same will be true with Skull and Bones
I bought the lamp to edition and bought stuff in the game but I don't know whether article when it says not free in the any pain for the death to play the game it is free you don't have to buy any cosmetics for the game everything is for free in the game so that article is a load of crap of basically I have 17 people playing Xbox every day 24 hours a day 7 days a week and it goes drops down by midnight by 11 people at night
Not a fan of it going F2P so soon. I think it would alienate at least a proportion of the current playerbase who have paid thus far. Maybe into year 2, but right now would be too soon. I do agree F2P would need to constrain access to late game stuff though. I would also be concerned about bringing in a bunch of whiners who think they're entitled to this or that for free......
So lets reward the sheep that didn't buy the game because of dumbass youtubers, now they can get it for free and will eventually love it. I'd say keep it as it is.

Thanks mate! Yes I agree the overall community right now is top notch. And free to play would undoubtedly introduce some entitled whiners!

I think the 850k number was the open beta plus free trail users. I doubt it's anywhere near that health.
@@Starfury_Apollo the 850k is the player count as of march 2024 but in april its said they lost 39% of players which works out about 331,500 players

I put in probably 15 hours a week and maintain about 4500 on the weekly leaderboard. Id hazard a guess of about 15 to 20k regulars
