THANKS!! This Totally saved my bacon - having parked at a public park and thought, for security, to put my jacket in the trunk, then realized I'd left the key in the jacket as usual. No need for a locksmith, or key-matching, or whatever costs that would have incurred!
Easiest way I opened my luggage box was by using small, long, flat screwdriver. Run screwdriver up along the center box latch until you feel screwdriver touching mechanical lever. When cobtact is made with screwdriver against lever, push up on lever assembly, opening trunk. Its quick, easy, with no drilling etc .PS you can use screwdriver to push up on left or right saddleboxe levers in same way to open them too, just like center luggage box.
I noticed I got a negative or thumbs down rating on this video. Knowing that there is always going to be someone who doesn't like anything you do, if I didn't explain this well enough or if there is something that you didn't understand, don't just put a check in the box as a negative but leave me a note or a suggestion and I will update the video with more information..... I actually had to watch my video again this morning to get my trunk open again due to the same issue but I did notice some things that could be improved. One being that when I said I removed the fairing i was referring to the panel on the bottom of the trunk that goes around he bottom of the latches and the edge of the trunk just below the tail lights... There were also some suggestions on this channel about putting a zip tie on the trunk actuation system that will make it easier to pop it open if it gets stuck again. And by the way, I made this video to help. I hope it does and you don't have to do any damage to your trunk to get it open.... Ride safe!
Great vid thank you but your voice is a bit of a drone. Try talking with a smile in your voice, yes that is what I said. Otherwise Very informative and clear. Just my opinion whatever thats worth. Not much probably.
Ignore the negative ninnies online... Your video is very helpful to those of use who are locked out. One MIGHT think Honda would make a lock where one can't lock the key in the trunk... like my gun safe, but that's another issue. On mine, my brother (now deceased) was trying to help replace a tail lens that was broken and managed somehow to screw up the mechanism . Springs and parts started coming out. I will attempt your method and hopefully I can get the thing to pop. I have the key, but the lock is not allowing the thing to open. Wish me luck...
I still couldn't get mine open. I need the measurements from the inside of latch on the lid to the inside of latch on the other side. Also the outside to outside. And the bottom of the latch to the bottom of the lid edge. Thanks, Tom
Tom, I don't have this motorcycle any more. but I would guess that from the bottom lip the latch part that I was pushing on would be about 3 inches and dead center of the width of the trunk. I hope that helps.
Something else you might try. Lots of folks don't know that a key will also open the trunk. I don't have the bike anymore but I do remember I had to turn the key to the left or counterclockwise. It hadn't been opened that way in a while so it was a little tuff to get it to turn. I was afraid I was going to break the key off but it did finally worked.
Very Cool! That will save time, frustration, heartache, maybe even divorce! I got something else from this video! It's time to take mine cover off an do maintenance to all 3 of these latches!
Is that just to unlock it or actually open it? Mine is unlocked, but won't open. It's behaving as if it is locked. The left and right panniers are opening fine.
My name is Tom Dorman. I contracted you about measurements on the latches on the trunk lid. My E-mail address is (dl10001996 @gmail.com). Please send me an email with measurements. Thanks Tom
I purchased a locked trunk with the key inside from the salvage yard and this video was very helpful in me getting it opened, thank you sir.
+Eliazer Rodriguez I'm glad it worked for you. I'm no professional teacher but attempted to share lessons learned. Happy riding!
I used a different method, but your Video was a GREAT HELP! Thank You.
Hooked the release bar with a coat hanger.

What about Large trunk on a Trike. California Side Car
Sorry Steve... I don't own one of those but you might look it over and see if the access is similar.
A very useful video ! thank you !
+Michel Serviere Thank you Michel.

Antony Hoch that is to open it locked or not. Good luck
Sorry to be so late answering. This is to open the box if the levers fail to open it.
Thanks much!
