The grandmother is responsible… but ultimately, parents are responsible to make sure they only leave their children with responsible care givers, not caregivers who have already proven to be inattentive carers.
There is a documentary on Netflix about parents who have left their babies in the car and have died. The parents say they had so many things on their mind they forgot the child was there.
When my kids were young enough to need a car seat I would freak out when they WERENT in the car with me. Like if I went somewhere alone then glanced in the back my heart would jump for a split second before I realized “oh yeah, I didn’t bring them”. I’m from Arizona so the heat was always a factor in why I was so vigilant in making sure they were ok.
We teach our children to NOT chew gum in school, church, etc; but this woman is very immature. Oh goodness, wheww, I have to leave to take my son home. WHAT??? WHAT??? WHAT???. If the jury listened closely, when the grey haired emt spoke about the chaos of the scene he said 'this had happened here before' i was so shocked the judge didnt ask the jury to leave and tell them to strike it, but that probably would have drawn more attention to it. My friend's child broke her leg while in my care, jumping on the trampoline with my kids.. I was a basket case. I got rid of the trampoline immediately and was paranoid about keeping others' children for years. 😢

Honestly, in hindsight I am sure they see it- but if cognitive decline is happening here, they say it usually takes 5 YEARS before family members recognize it. So no, these daughters would not necessarily see it. This is their competent, capable mother. My mother has full blown dementia and mybsister is still in denial that it's not dementia just memory issues.
She has already lost the life of another precious, tiny, defenseless baby.. Who in the right mind would trust her to watch a hamster after that. Gum helps me with anxiety. That's probably why she's chewing gum. It's not like she's cow chewing and making it loud and obvious that she is chewing gum.
I was a character witness a long time ago and the judge told me to remove my gum..I was nervous being there and that's why I was chewing it..but I felt so embarrassed when he told me to remove it.

The 911 call was so upsetting. Understandable you don’t want your son to be there but put him in the grandparents house.. he’s 12 I’m sure he saw a little of what was going on.. and whatever the outcome he still was going to end up finding out because this was a major tragedy that occurred within the family. It sounds like there was no case and the grandma was asleep so it was just assumed to be a freak accident of the toddler getting out and falling into a pond. The mom of the baby was never given a report or told about her mother (the grandma’s) statements either until the hot car incident due to Florida laws 🙃

Just a note about this 911 call. I wish people who make the call would listen to the operator and actually try to answer questions. It's completely useless to respond the way this woman is. If she isn't capable of handling this she needs to pass the phone over to someone else. It could make the difference between life and death.
I remember one time i brought groceries into the house and began putting them up, then at an instance remembered my baby was still inside the car. It was like someone punched me in the stomach. Luckily it wasn't summer and less than 5-10 mins. But to me it felt like eternity. The most sickening feeling I've ever felt

Her daughter was well aware of her mother’s plans, the day she out of the blue , calls her to watch her daughter because she forgot she had a hair appt! That she herself said she always took the baby with her ! But yet even though she knew her mother had plans she decided, after the passing of her son a year prior in her mothers care and her mother not watching any of her children for a year or more, ask her to watch her daughter at the last minute anyway . The morning of her appt!
Imagine allowing one child to be in your care and the child dies and not obsessing about any other child in your care every second of every moment. Something is definitely off. She has to lack a conscious at a minimum.

I was a character witness a long time ago and the judge told me to remove my gum..I was nervous being there and that's why I was chewing it..but I felt so embarrassed when he told me to remove it.

The 911 call was so upsetting. Understandable you don’t want your son to be there but put him in the grandparents house.. he’s 12 I’m sure he saw a little of what was going on.. and whatever the outcome he still was going to end up finding out because this was a major tragedy that occurred within the family. The aunt was weird for that. “I can’t stay”. wtf. Had that been my nieces I would have been trying my best to talk to the operator and my parents to find out as much information. She was just weird. Sorry for those babies.. this is just sad.

I do not understand the baby being left with her after losing a child a year before while in her care. This grandmother obviously has medical issues, maybe early dementia.
The parents probably didn't want her to feel guilty over what they may have assumed was an accident - but maybe poor judgement

It sounds like there was no case and the grandma was asleep so it was just assumed to be a freak accident of the toddler getting out and falling into a pond. The mom of the baby was never given a report or told about her mother (the grandma’s) statements either until the hot car incident due to Florida laws 🙃

Her daughter must’ve been pregnant with the babygirl Uriel at the time. I can’t believe she allowed her mother to watch her other baby again. Only to have the same end result! It’s a serious miscarriage of justice that the jury is not allowed to know this information though. They should be allowed all information pertaining to this grandmothers pattern of negligence.

And the jury is not allowed to know that her negligence killed her grandson a year earlier to her killing her granddaughter. Both her daughter’s kids are dead because of her. Some responsibility is definitely on the mother for even allowing her second baby to be left in her mother’s care again.

Just a note about this 911 call. I wish people who make the call would listen to the operator and actually try to answer questions. It's completely useless to respond the way this woman is. If she isn't capable of handling this she needs to pass the phone over to someone else. It could make the difference between life and death.

I remember one time i brought groceries into the house and began putting them up, then at an instance remembered my baby was still inside the car. It was like someone punched me in the stomach. Luckily it wasn't summer and less than 5-10 mins. But to me it felt like eternity. The most sickening feeling I've ever felt

The caller didn't want to go close, she had her son with her and surely wanted to shield him from seeing the scene. However, she could have communicated better during the call.

I'm not saying that excuses her behaviour. However, something was obviously up with this woman. She was "napping" when Ezra drowned, and had gone out for lunch with friends while watching Uriel.

Her daughter was well aware of her mother’s plans, the day she out of the blue , calls her to watch her daughter because she forgot she had a hair appt!
That she herself said she always took the baby with her !
But yet even though she knew her mother had plans she decided, after the passing of her son a year prior in her mothers care and her mother not watching any of her children for a year or more, ask her to watch her daughter at the last minute anyway . The morning of her appt!
Imagine allowing one child to be in your care and the child dies and not obsessing about any other child in your care every second of every moment. Something is definitely off. She has to lack a conscious at a minimum.

The ems were already on their way after she gave them the address and what was wrong. 911 stayed on the call to get more info that they could relay to the ems services on their way
