Keeping your fingers over where it gets hot on the fins, helps keep it cool. The reflector style with the dents, is called orange peel. Makes for a smoother transition from hotspot to spill. Good review, you don’t have to be an enthusiast to know what you like and share your opinion. Thanks for the review.

I’ve carried a 2015 d25c for years. It’s just plain excellent. I ordered the d3 ti as a backup when I saw it but just wasn’t in love with it like my old 25. My first gripe, the tint. Despite having the same led, my older one has a gorgeous warm tint. The new one, while still one of the nicer ones I have, just isn’t the same.. still nice but much whiter. I could live with that alone but the next issue was the slight delay between modes. My older one is instant so the delay was kinda off putting. I still have it.. so I guess it’s still a backup but I just can’t get as excited about it and it’s generally for sale if a friend or coworker wants a nice light. I also prefer the older body style.
The worst part about these lights is the clip. The clip itself is fine but the screws suck and can only really be removed with pliers. At least In my experience with the several I’ve owned. Some hex keys ALMOST fit, but not quite. The other issue is the coating. It sucks. It looks crappy and flakes off so my first step is always to sandblast the coating off. Huge improvement. Especially once it breaks in. My edc one had taken on a really nice, almost stonewashed look after years of carry.

Don't forget candela, the intensity of the beam hotspot (different than lumens which is just amount of total light). I'm only casually into flashlights because knives and guns have taken up my budget, but I tend to lean towards Olight, Fenix, and Streamlight. For me, ~150-200 lumens is good enough for normal use in a dark room, but prefer ~1000 lumens or more for a weapon or outdoor light. I use the lowest setting of 1-5 lumens for movie theaters where you eat as well. Flashlights are like knives in that it you should determine the intended use to narrow down what type of light to get, there's something for everything.

Nice vid. Once you carry a flashlight for a few days you will realize how useful it is. I use my light as much as my knife. And I work in an office lol.

I tell people the same thing.. both lights and knives. I’m a glassblower and occasionally fill shifts at a glass gallery. A nice, bright, high cri light is almost essential. I use it all the time during manufacture and if I’m wearing my salesman hat, it’s invaluable for highlighting details for customers. The right light can make something go from looking good to amazing. I’ve carried a 2015 d25c ti with an incredible tint for years. It just makes colors pop. I’ve bought a handful of lights since but haven’t found one better for my needs. My boss went and bought a mcgizmo haiku (the sebenza of flashlights) after seeing mine but I still prefer my own. To be fair, he knew nothing about color temp and asked for the brightest one (rookie mistake).. I’ll take 450lm of a great tint over 650lm of a worse one every time.. don’t get caught up in the numbers. 650 really isnt that much brighter than 450 in reality.

For those on a budget, check out the Lumintop AA 2.0. Fantastic light for $20. I have lights ranging from $15 to $250. For daily carry can’t beat it.

I have the AA version D3A in my pocket now. Got it from Illumination Gear for less than 80$.
I bring this everytime I want the slimmest light I have, the Surefires are a bit large in terms of head size.
An advantage is that I can out just about any AA battery in it when it ever(slim chance) runs out. I just run an Eneloop Pro 2450mAh battery in it and it lasts forever.
    I was a flashaholic in 2007 before I got into knives. :)

Looks nice. Like you I know little about flashlights but decided a few months ago I needed one for showing houses (I do real estate on the side). I ended up with a Olight S1R II Baton Summer edition and its great! The biggest issue with it is sometimes clients want to hold it and look in the attic/basement/crawlspace for themselves and I cringe every time lol. Missed opportunity to size compare it to the Ranch Bowie haha. Maybe if I end up sending you anything else to review I'll throw it in there and you can do a comparison.

Olight S1R II is on sale sept 2nd. 30% off for the desert tan version. I’ve never owned one but a lot of people like them in case anyone is looking for an edc light. Also a great budget option is the streamlight microstream. It’s under $30 and I personally love the desert tan version of that one.

Olight M2R warrior is hard to beat for throw and spread in an easy to carry light. You can index the on off button with pocket clip so it's easy to locate in the dark. Carried mine for two years now so I may be a tad biased toward it.

Moving into the EDC, I'm putting out the challenge I wanna see a write, light, slice post on IG before next Friday. And I've really been into single AAA battery flashlights right now, takes no room in pocket, bright enough for me, can clip to my hat unnoticed, and you can geat a cheap one for like 15, and a Ti one for like $40.

I love this flashlight! I have a couple versions of this particular one. This page describes the programming options (it's for a slightly different flashlight, but it's functionally the same): www.eagtac.com/html/d25crcmkii/specs.html.
It also has active thermal management, which means that when it hits 140 degrees, it lowers the output. And the texturing in the reflector is called "orange peel". Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for the video!

For those also on a budget because they spend too much on knives and won’t tap into their knife budget to get a light- Drop.com. Brass, copper, titanium, and reylight or their own brand that they just released are bothhh great. One is a twist top and the other is a Ti pushbutton ... for $30. I’ve seen the same light at double the price multiple times. And I use rechargeable batteries so I can carry extras in case in a travel case. And I use aaa so I can find one easier if I need it - used to use 18650 etc and they are only good when you keel multiple batteries which are kind of heavier. For every day use I still keep four of the 18650 and a 26650 battery for the higher powered stuff (car accident, help, rescue, tactical situation against our very curious wildlife like Mtn lions, coyotes, even a raccoon darnit!) and the strobe light sends any animal running when they start to flex up, trust me! I’ve never used a light more, than after buying one and using it for edc. Love the smaller ones from Drop and I like this model a lot too for home.

i unfortunately i have owned 3 different eagtacs for our ranch for years and now everyone of them has had to go back for repair or repalcement, which takes considerable time as the only guy that you deal with has to order either parts or a light from china. i use either a MX30L4-C(repaired once and then repalced) or MX30L3-C(repalced once) nightly during the long nights of winter and calving months and keep a clicky on the side of the gunsafe in case of power outage. it never gets used and now is draining the battery within 2 months just sitting there.(and yes i click off the charged led). and now that i've called in for assistance with this last issue i am getting ghosted by them. so anyone who is looking at an eagtac product BUYER BEWARE.
