    I hate driving ! I was just diagnosed with KC last week! I don't think people believe how hard it is to see with the lights.

    I hate that I can’t drive after a certain time of the day, and it so much worse during the fall and winter when the days get shorter and the time change. I feel like such a burden to my family and friends, and working is complicated too.

    Im 22 and have the large scleral lenses. It definitely makes driving easier but its still scary af driving at night. I would highly recommend the scleral lenses tho, first time i put them on i got choked up because i never knew people could actually see this well

      I have keratoconus and just got into scleral lenses a few years ago. It was also very emotional for me to wear sclerals for the first time. I didn't realize how bad my vision had become until I saw perfectly.

    • @lucasgabriel5522
      @lucasgabriel5522 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jacob, the same for me. I wear scleral lenses and they definitely changed my life. It's incredible how I manage to solve all my problems and deal with good vision. I never expected that I'd be able to see the way I do nowadays. My keratoconus is in a very advanced stage and these lenses are my only way to see well. And btw, I'm 21.

      @@shleffy You're welcome. Don't get afraid of it. I also felt afraid of it because of it was my only chance. Even so, these lenses saved my life and now I have a normal life. Before the scleral, I wore another lenses, but they were small and terrible, i didn't adapt to them (wore everyday for 3 years). But the Scleral, even months without wearing anything on my eyes, I didn't need to adapt. It's quite nice and easy to wear, wash and treat my eyes. Don't worry!

    Driving during the day isn’t that bad with KC since I live in a super bright area but at night. Omg I want to cry. It’s so terrifying.

    How much will 6/15 vision improve with scleral lens?

  • @itsjoseph875

    When I was a kid I always played with the lights because I had astigmatism crazy I didn’t know I had a disease.

  • @BoojumFed
    @BoojumFed 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    It's strange. People describing keratoconus and astigmatism always describe a starburst effect, but what I experience is an almost ringlike smear, with faint smears coming from the right side (say 3:30ish) and the bottom side (6 or 6:30ish) both arcing to a common point around the bottom right (5 o'clockish) where they combine to a soft visual "echo" of whatever light/ letter/ pattern I'm seeing.
    Thankfully this image remains fairly close to the original, though I'm seeing a slightly fainter double of the line underneath this post as I'm typing this and the letters all have their own innate shadowing effects (in white since I'm using darkmode at the moment), for example. And when I come across high-contrast vertical lines the farther from my center of focus they are the wider and more pronounced a slight prisming effect occurs, with the light spots smearing bluish over dark towards the center of my view and orangeish towards darker spots closer to the edges of my field of view....

    • @pinkbeatle2012
      @pinkbeatle2012 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that's more like me, I get like a halo effect around lights.

    • @Annimations
      @Annimations ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With my KC I see both the star burst and the slurring you describe. Even when my vision was “perfect” according to my eye doctor I saw starburst halos. But now they are more intense. That combined with the smear just makes road lights way too crazy.

      As dimly as possible with the bad eye shut sadly. Avoid Apple products, they don't go dark enough and IOS hard blocks you from adding any overlays to.

    Keratoconus sucks! And driving while having keratoconus sucks even worse. Even the road signs have glare so if I try to use the bright beams I can't see a thing. If I absolutely need to drive I night I wait until is late when there's less cars on the road and less lights. My KC is progressing rapidly. I had cross-linking done in one of my eyes, and it just made my vision worse. I refused to get the other eye done. I've tried rigid lenses, soft lenses and scleral lenses, and all are very uncomfortable. I'm at my wits end.
