Most of the basic canister filters will stunt Discus. Discus need a filter that can be cleaned with ease at least weekly. Canister filters are made to run for months on end without cleaning, good for most fish, bad for Discus. Running your water threw filth for months on end can and will inhibit growth . Canisters are why most people end up scratching their heads, wondering why their Discus only made it to 4" or 5 ", when they think did everything apparently right. The best setup is a sump, hang on backs for weekly cleanings, as well as ample UV filtration.
