In the war, Kakuzu guesses that Hidan is still alive because he wasn't reanimated, but that could also just very well be because Kabuto didn't find the pieces of his body.

I remember how frustrated I was when I couldn't figure out who that reanimation was
really you couldn´t? this episode restarted the flame war over tobis identity if you remember. you know several guys in the community were not convinced tob iis madara, but had to keep quiet, due to tobis power and him naming himself madara, but that scene got all the doubters back in one trail. i admit i wasn´t 100% certain, but it could only be two persons that would startle "madara" actually one would startle the fake if it was a fake SPOILER (just to make sure curtis doesn´t read it) and one could startle the real madara. either the man himself or his younger brother who was said to be equal to him in skill. if we assumed what "madara" said was true and he was just a shadow of his former self, than his younger brother would be a force he could not counteract. and ofc if it was the man himself, the whole madara show would be over

Yeah, it always seemed pretty obvious to me, especially in the original Japanese. When Tobi started calling himself Madara he always did it in this weird third person way, like he was putting on a show and trying extra hard to convince people, rather than just speaking naturally. And all through the encounter, Kabuto is toying with him, "Tobi -- oh wait, you're calling yourself Madara now," "don't underestimate my intel network", "don't worry, I haven't told anyone about this," etc.

When I first saw this moment (9:45), I thought that it was Madara's younger brother, but the truth was even more fascinating.
My thoughts were that it was either Madara's brother or the sage of the 6 paths.

The reason you didn't see Hidan is because he isn't dead. The reanimation jutsu can only summon the dead. He can't die remember. He is 100% unkillable. That means he is still alive buried undergrown with his head and other body parts blown apart.

Hidan is alive but slowly dying according to Kishimoto, however came back in a filler arc as a reanimated akatsuki alongside Deidara.
Also I remember when this first came out in the manga, the theories went crazy. The most popular were Naruto's dad (I don't know why) and Marada's rival, the 1st Hokage.
Hehehe Oh trust me you're not supposed to know what was in that casket. Just know....when you do find out....you will be surprised and you love every moment of the reveal and its results.
There have already been plenty of hints, even in this episode, and going all the way back to Tobi's speech patterns when he starts claiming to be Madara. Like, Anko's team even literally calls Tobi "that guy calling himself Madara" in this very episode.

In that coffin was a Ramen guy. He went buying special noodles from the Hidden Steam village and got his throat eaten by Hidan's head so Kabuto found him near some old random road idk where through the forest and brought him back to life cuz he knew Naruto would not lay a finger on his favorite cook which means Naruto backs down which means ez win for Kabuto.

This meeting is a very great scene. Especially when you rewatch it after finishing the serie. And not only because of the mysterious person in the last coffin, but some dialogues are also taking a whole new sense.
