Not only an advanced rocket stove, but I think that's the most I've ever seen anyone do with just an angle grinder and stick welder! That one build paid for the tools, for sure! Ah, I'm a retired guy in Florida, USA. I teach "shop" and fabrication technique to engineering students. I have so much welding equipment and so many tools, but you're doing much more with much less! I like your stove, it looks like the wood can feed itself for a long time, and you have some control of the air coming in, which most rocket stoves do not. Good design!

Well, if you teach shop LP, why no comments on his safety factor? Really, grinding and welding with no gloves? Common man, that is just BS! That being said, this project is worthwhile, just be careful guys, Iv'e got the the weld burns to prove it, and that was with protective gear.

wow a lot going on. I will definitely watch again and try keep up lol. my name is Jeremy I am from Oklahoma I am 41 yrs old. I am kinda a jack of all trades. I have worked professionally as a metal fabricator truck driver and heavy equipment operator. due to health reasons I have pretty much had to retire. I have since been learning knife making. I was raised in a cabinet/wood shop. I am going to have to check out some more of your builds. thanks for the upload. I loved everything except the music. I must also say I am impressed that you chose to use a real man's welder. you know one that takes real skill. if you can only afford 1welding machine best make it a stick. Almost anyone can make do with a mig. it takes skill to run a stick.

Cattle farmer from Australia (family fled Poland prior to WW1) Nice job! A link for plans would be great. I have made a simple rocket stove for the wife, but chimney is also rhs and as such for me does not draw properly without the cylindrical chimney. Will do a remake at a later date.
The one thing I have noticed about having a rocket stove is that we, 1. Save on lpg and 2. we pick up a lot of sticks and wood out of the paddocks that would otherwise get burnt by bushfires etc!

To improve this stove you can add a "Sand Battery" to it which will allow it to continue to put out heat even after the fire goes out. Take a 15 to 20 centimeter pipe, cap 1 end, split it lengthwise down the middle, weld each half to the outside of the barrel and fill with sand. The fire will heat the sand and then the sand will release the heat.

Great Job! I've made a rocket stoves out of steel, steel brick combo, and now have 95% fire brick rocket stove. The brick takes a while to heat up, to a max temp at around 100C ave. The metal top is not super hot because the bricks become heat batteries, steal and store the heat energy. So, as planed, It has become a infrared project. it's a a completely different type of heat...very cool...:-) I love and miss working with steel though. Thank you for your presentation.

Could you PLEASE make another video where you explain in general how it works and maybe an update on how it has been performing?
I mean i get the general idea of it all, but i'd love to hear your personal vision.

Very nice build, smart system to take it apart for service/inspection; yet sealed enough for use. This stove will probably run very efficient and clean with the isolated run of the secondary burn tube, hopefully it doesn't run too hot for the mild steel to wear out too fast.
A really interesting feature would be a manifold switch between direct fire-to-air heater(the outer naked steel barrel heater) and the option to lead flames to a sand energy battery! First parts of burn heats to room, once room is nice, divert heat to a sand battery for slow release during the time you can't attend the fire.

i must say. this is one hell of a woodstove you built man. ive built allot of stoves (nothing as serious a this though. i build mine with soup cans n cookie tins just to fart and and for fun) and im always experimenting with designs and air flow. how to control the air going in/out, most efficient method. that type of stuff you know and i gotta say when i see your "vortec draft maker" you hit the nail on thead. genius. going to have to incorporate a vortex in my next stove, which will be a rocket stove of this same design. and start thinking about efficiency. instead of just seeing how much wood i can burn lol. love it. love the secondary air intake too!!!

Surfing TH-cam, seen your posting, have comment: The steel is exsorbing all the heat and throwing it out the chimly, you need refractory next to flame not next to steel. You want to add to the flame, hottest in the chamber and radeate off the top plate into the room. Try to ram up a crucible mix with soil crete and 30% perlite. Just some thought !

  • @victoryfirst2878

The main body as shown was very hot, but the riser should have also been real close to the same temperature. The purpose of a advanced wood stove like this is to lay a foundation of rock along a wall in a boxed structure and a series of back and forth pipes works it's way around the boxed structure heating the rocks and pea gravel that's been laid on and around the series of pipes and at that point the heat is called "radiant" heat and then the pipe leaving the boxed structure which at that point is cooler can be expelled out the chimney to the outdoors. But the workmanship and design of this advanced rocket stove appears to be superior to other designs I've seen of this type design. Great job, hats off, this is what I love about life, taking nothing and building something with your hands creating something very very useful. This is going forward and on the up & up way of thinking and I which this type of mindset could be taught in school somehow, the world would be a better place.

The one improvement I would recommend would be to have the stove draw air directly from the outside. This would make room heating more efficient and help keep the room humidity up.
By drawing air from the room, the stove ends up sucking in cold air from the outside in through the door and window cracks. This makes the stove less efficient and the room air much drier.

Very nice design! The only thing you can make it better is by making a longer outlet pipe and loop the pipe in some concrete or other material that will keep the heat for a much longer time.
Then you will have an even more efficent heater in that shed of yours that will keep it warmer for a much longer time.

Not a great welder but a terrific fabricator and engineer!

Witam, super robota, chciałbym zrobić właśnie taki piec do garażu, ale link który podałeś do planów jest już nieaktualny, podesłał byś jakiś świeższy? Dzięki, pozdrawiam.

That is an awesome stove. You the Man, it only took 10 minutes to build. I haven't welded in awhile, so it'd probably take me a good 15 -20 minutes to build.
