  • Daniel tells the story of how he escaped the clutches of gaming addiction. he also apologizes for the ass video but it was all true 💩
I was a proud lvl 60 feral druid on the server neptulon. moved over to wow from star wars galaxies with my guild exile corp. we destroyed everyone in PvP on star wars and wanted to make a name for ourselves on wow too. but things didnt go that way. as members started hitting lvl.60 they wanted to start raiding and member after member betrayed us and left. I was so upset I thought they were loyal members and we were friends for ever but they left kust like that. the once mighty exile guild was reduce to a mere 20 or so core members. eventually the guild merged with another guild that wanted to start raiding and exile was no more. me and 3 others remade the guild to keep the name alive and to honour the memories we had in star wars galaxies. it was all over the end of an era. me and the 3 other people, ekomire, mattc and his sister, comtinued playing on as the very last members of exile. that's also were my druid spent his last days. who knows if the guild still exists or if it was automatically terminated. who knows if our town on dantooine still exists or not. I guess not since the servers shut down from what I heard. some of my fondest memories were made on star wars galaxies and wow. I miss those days sometimes. I miss playing with people and having a sense of community.

jokes aside, I'm glad you got a good point out of what happened to you. We learn from our mistakes and you are the proof of it. Only one thing I'd suggest to you, get a bit closer with your parents, they have sacrificed a lot and a relationship with parents will be most important thing in your life, remember that. They will always be there for you.

I agree with you mate. I had a really bad addiction to WoW, lost friends, jobs, dropped out of school.
However, my brother and I have never been closer as we shared this addiction and brotherhood in the game and that was such a bonding point. Some of the best times of my life.
Coincidentally, after Cataclysm released and literally saved my life to allow me to quit, I lost 120 pounds, snagged a wife and got a full time job that pays salary.
So if there's motivation for me to stay away from WoW? It's to realize how far I've come by not playing WoW.
That being said, I do miss the living hell out of those days and that game in particular but that is a slippery road that I can't touch.

Damn, you got out quick. I remember I was addicted to World of Warcraft up until the Cataclysm expansion. I did so terrible in school because all I wanted to do was play World of Warcraft. I lost a bunch of friends because of World of Warcraft, except for my best friend who also played it, but he didn't have an addiction to it, so he was like my only connection to reality while I was addicted to it. Oddly enough, I became obsessed with Japan, like anime, and the girls, specifically Japanese music, that stuff is so good even though I can only understand a little bit of Japanese... anyway, I became obsessed with that stuff too while I was addicted to World of Warcraft, but I guess it wasn't enough to really push me away from the game. Cataclysm was so terrible, I remember not wanting to really sink time into it, and I was free... for awhile. I went to college and got a job, life was looking good... and then League of Legends became a thing and also ruined my life. Now I'm finally over being addicted to WoW and to League, but unfortunately it's a little too late because I feel like those games ruined a lot of opportunities for me, especially now. I'm still obsessed with Japan and attempt to teach myself Japanese (but I have terrible memory, so I forget if I don't constantly use it) but my depression and anxiety is so bad, not to mention school put me in debt, that I'm afraid to push myself towards visiting Japan.

I stated playing WoW at 14 and probably played 10 hours a day until i was 20, It ruined my chances at A levels, and probably stopped me from going to university. However many of the people I met are still my friends, I don't regret any of my time spent playing it, however looking back I do feel like my time could've been spent better, Also kinda worth noting that i was the only 15 year old in a very strict 18+ guild. I was quite mature for my age, but at the same time under-developed as I didn't get the "real" social experience until much later.

Honest video. It depends on the personality. If you have the personality of a compulsive perfectionist where you always want the best stuff and learn the most it is better to put it in something productive. I had problems with games because I was doing it compulsively and decided to put into other things that make me happy and also benefit me. So if you have a personality like this you should avoid MMO's because they are designed to exploit those compulsive traits.

it was about to ruin my life too and it was my own fault...I HAD A CHOICE... as we all make choices in our lives! I was ignoring friends and family to play a silly fantasy game! I even phoned in sick from work as I work a 12 hr rotating shift to raid = PATHETIC! The biggest downfall was I play guitar with 2 other lads and we play in a quiet coffee shop and a cocktail lounge called elements and they told me they would have to find someone else if I wasn't interested any more and that was the wake up call for me as I love these guys like brothers and I love to play music. It is too bad the game is structured so you have to spend so much time at it for the average joe to accomplish anything in the game and that is the way it is marketed for you to keep playing and for them to make money off your lengthy subscription. So beware and there is a lot of life to live out there and its a wasted life to sit in front of a computer screen for hours on end or even days on end...YOUR BETTER THAN THAT! This game is a very well engineered game however Blizzard has not got the insight to see how it has the potential to become a problem for some and the almighty dollar reigns supreme to them!!!

The last 3 years of our relationship it got so bad that we rarely saw each other. He would spend every bit of his free time playing. I tried to hang on as long as possible. He lost so many of his friends already over it.
Eventually ended it with him over it. Sad really. I still care about him but he just disappeared into the game entirely.

@Benny It is just like a drug; offers an escape from reality. And if you don't like your life or have anything to do or look forward to in real life, it works to give you an escape from that and you get to be someone else for a moment.
And we have been split up for 8 years now. I've just stayed single all these years. Idk if he regrets it or not, but I don't. I still care for him but I know that I would have spent these last 8 years chasing the love of a man who was in love with something else. At least now I am free of that urge and I got my self-respect back.

I was a WoW addict from 2004 to 2007 after a relationship had ended in 2004. After Burning Crusade I got bored with the game and didn't feel like grinding out another 10 levels....felt like a never ending cycle and pointless afterward. I wasted 3 years of my life on a game that I couldn't even finish.

World of wacraft.i was an addict to it badly. I broke up with my girlfriend over it.i always stayed at my friends basement for days with barely no sleep. My mother thought i got kidnapped until i finally called her and told her i was okay. Then my addiction definitely got worst when my former friend stole 250 gold from my account. I almost stabbed him with a butter knife out of anger but then i realized i was losin it so i left his house. Then i reflected and realized how bad that game got me.wasnt healthy at all.

People are making a lot of jokes here, but OP, you need to know something: You have an extremely addictive personality. You are VERY lucky it's only video games you've been addicted to. You should avoid alcohol and drugs and any unhealthy behavior, because you will turn anything into an addiction if you like it enough. I know because I'm the same way.

I think the main reason your father didnt just buy a computer, is precisely because the fact that your sister and other people in the house needed to use it prevented you from losing touch from reality.
Even if fights werent exactly pleasant, your sister still pulled you back to reality and thenn gave you time to reflect on your behavior after dad turned the internet off.
Maybe your dad kept paying your subscription because he wanted you to quit on your own, and realize your mistakes, its like a drug, if you re on the peak of your addiction, and then you suddenly stop playing because of the money, you most likely start doing ANYTHING yo get money to pay for your addiction.
Maybe your father though that if he took it away just like that, you would take some reckless decisions.
And about your friends, i feel sorry about that. i get you, there are times when you just wanna stay home and do your stuff, but you shouldnt have treated them like that.
I hope your experiences helped you grow as a person, and you know, you re still young, strong, and more importantly, and independent adult with no babies (the best thing ever) so you can use your money in whatever way you want, and give explanations to no one but you
    enjoy your life

    From maybe 11 - 17 I played video games 24/7 then I found a girlfriend
I treasured her with my heart and soul... I finished year 12
But I have never had a job so I struggle to get a job...... she left me for another guy with a job after 4 years of being together she just blocked me from all social media and cut me off...
Now I don’t know what I’m doing with my life and spend everyday looking at random jobs applying for anything but getting nowhere just living every single day at home alone....
    I’m now 21 it’s Fkd
Never done drugs never been a huge drinker just
Had a bad introverted life which had made me a hermit....
Im not sucidal but a life restart would be fkn great

I wanna say I used to play Blade and Soul but that is a misuse of the word play. I used to WORK on my character for hours on end. I picked it up because the combat seemed neat and the titty physics were top notch. But over time I found myself engaging in obnoxious in-game tasks I would've taken no part in if they weren't bribing me with in-game currency and items. I'd go in every morning like "oh I'll just play this shit for an hour or two then draw or something" and the game's like "nah fam, do this daily 4 quest challenge, take part in this seasonal event, kill this player with a bounty on their head, rank up in arena, buy this outfit, BTW ur expensive 12 hour crafting item from this morning is gonna be done in 45 minutes, so you'd better stick around a pinch longer." Then I'd look outside and it would be night time again.
This thing I did for fun was becoming enough work to rival my actual job at the time, only with more swearing. I'll save you the clan/party drama which convinced me to drop the game for good. What's important is that there is an information super high way full of unique, non-intrusive games, as well as other past times; so why let one hypnosis experiment pin me down with an all day choke-hold any longer?

Not for me. Quite the contrary. I learned all my English from wow, am from non-english speaking country. Never had to study for a English test and always got A+. Even took advanced English courses for "free points" in school. Also learned to code SQL, HTML, CSS, JAVA & PHP because of World of Warcraft private servers. I was admin on Wow-beez, Kamical wow and many others. Also owned my own private server with 400 players peak and made some nice money as a 15 year old. I even put that on my application when I was looking for my job, and they brought it up excitedly. I also bonded with my dad on WoW, boosted his character in scarlet monastery until he got tabard and axe etc. So no, not everyone has had their life ruined by WoW. It just made my life better, and I am so grateful my dad bought me the game when I was 9 years old back in 2004. Only thing wow probably took away from me was my interest in hooking up with girls, which is pretty bad I guess lol, but nothing I can't catch up with now in my early 20's.

I see a lot of people in the comments mocking and trolling but ppl need to realise that gaming addiction is a real thing
I was severely addicted to roblox and I lost out on my college admissions because I couldn’t meet the required grades and cutoff .... but I somehow managed to get into a decent college
Somehow I spun out of my addiction and I am really really thankful for that
I had to do various things like disconnecting computers to getting into some activity
It was tough .... it’s tougher then substance abuse because you can avoid a particular substance but you cannot avoid something online which is easily accessible and addicting .... it’s not funny at all .... gaming addiction is a real thing
