Kanade's jazz roots bring so much to these pop/rock/metal songs with KOIAI. She's one of the most musical drummers I've heard. She's one of my very favourite drummers not just to listen to, but also to watch as she plays. She always has a look of total concentration while being totally relaxed. And never a wasted movement

I'm getting obsessed with this band. As a genre skeptic, I'd say it's not even a discussion--there is no box you can put this into. All I know is the level of musicianship on display here is absurdly high. Thanks for checking them out again.

The only box I would put this band in is a box of delightful ear candy. Both the musicianship and songwriting are outstanding. My introduction to them was the live version of "Come See Me" and obviously the guitar work was instantly off the charts but one of my first questions was "Who is the drummer and bass player?"

@@fedogma8407 where on earth did you see Come See me live? You actually saw them LIVE in the flesh and they only played that song?

@@caprise-music6722 Sorry, it was actually the live version video of "A New Picture". Thanks for pointing that out and I did correct my hastily written comment. I would love to see this band live though. Fortunately, not only are they on Tidal, but the sound quality of their recordings are very high fidelity which sounds great on my stereo system. I have been listening to them over and over again for the past two weeks. Very smart songwriting and of course very talented musicians.

Who says power pop can't have stellar instrumentals? I'm finding so much musical satisfaction in these Asian female-led bands.

I just can't stop listening to this song, the sky is the limit for these ladies. I can't wait for the next EP , or even full album!

This song just flows with a variety of ear candy from each musician. Not only is the talent off the charts, but this is extremely smart songwriting where they not only know where to place extra details (the ear candy) but also knowing when to hold back.

Their performances always makes me smile in awe. I am so happy to know of them now as I followed Kanade from her childhood knowing she's going somewhere.
A recent concert after this video release, Wakazaemon performed with them and they mentioned a dvd/blu-ray release adding to the upcoming cd.

When I first heard this, I immediately thought Steely Dan mid seventies. It’s got that vibe to it, melodic yet so intricate. Great reaction.

This song is Grammy Award winning standard. When will the world wake up to the fact they are being deprived, by the corporate hand-cuffers and gatekeepers in the music industry , award orgs etc, of truly magnificent talent. Wake up America ! Wake up world !

There's good reason to be high on KOIAI. I would really like to see play-throughs of both Hazuki and Kanade to see exactly what they are doing here.

The video is very clean and doesn’t over do shot changes. So many videos these days overload the viewer with graphics and green screen effects. This Koiai video is the exact opposite. It is perfectly matched to the songs groove.

I agree with what you said about this being the best guitar solo in years.
I think LISA-X(KOIAI), SAKURA YOSHIDA(HAGANE), HALCA(ASTERISM), the three young Z's are next level to MIYAKO, MIDORI, KANAMI,.
MIYAKO and KANAMI have been playing the piano and studying classical music since childhood, and their talent for composing music is outstanding, but they started playing the guitar much later than LISA, SAKURA, and HALCA, at the age of high school.
MIYAKO, KANAMI is a person of hard work. He often misses a lot in live performances, plays too fast, loses cleanness of sound, and is out of rhythm.
However, LISA-X, SAKURA, and HALCA, have been playing guitar fast since elementary school and have their own channel on TH-cam, which is roaring with subscribers. The cleanness of their sound is on another level.
The way their fingers move is not like a fast-moving video, as if a human being is moving his or her fingers fast.
In case you are wondering, legendary motorcycle racer Freddie Spencer has been riding on race tracks since he was three years old. He could tell the temperature of the front wheel and rear wheel almost exactly during a race, and could adjust the temperature of both wheels separately during braking.
What I am trying to say is that the earlier we start doing things, the younger we start, the more extraordinary dimensions we reach.

As a bass player, #5 (that's what I call Wakazaemon) is moving into my favorite bass player category with Misa, TOKIE, and Yuki (Paranoid Void), Bryan Beller (The Aristocrats), and Michael League (Snarky Puppy, RIP Shawn Martin). 🦍🍌PS, Waka did say (on X) she is working on more "songs" with them. PS, would like to see Kotono with a mad voice in a song, lol!

I haven’t been this excited about a new band since 2001. I love their 2 first EP’s! Very, VERY few bands I like every song, but KOIAI is one of them.
Li-sa-X is incredible. What blows me away the most about her is not her technical skills or speed. It’s her ability to write songs such as One Way Or Another, Make You Regret, A New Picture etc NOT to mention Come See Me. (Which I believe was a joint effort on the actual composition, lyrics)
Also, you mentioned it in the video. Li-sa’s ability to write great solos. She’s 19 years old, but she is already at a level of musicianship I can’t even fathom. Music comes first. Her love of many different types of music. (A wide musical taste helps any musician to improve)
Also, Kanade. No words. Pure professional. Same with Wakazaemon, Hazuki and Kotono.
BRILLIANT band. Universe class. Cannot wait for the third EP!
    Great video!

There are 3 great bands on this planet Lovebites, Band Maid and now Koiai. Yes there many more coming out of Japan too, but all, just just that tiny smidge behind , but improving dangerously closer.

“But you don’t feel crowded by any of this that is going on in the song… so much air to breathe in this song.”
This may sound strange, but I wonder if just having more space is itself a Polyphia influence. For example, I know Polyphia has a sort of spaciousness to their music; they have these little pauses between rhythmic patterns, allowing everything to more easily shine through. Like enough space so that everyone is not stepping heavily on each other. At least, that’s how I would describe it.

And a long time student of Paul Gilbert.
Plus she is a life long student of music itself. You have to be to write songs like she does.
