you can freeze avocados! had no idea but tried and it's amazing (since i'm the only one in my house who loves them). take your very ripe avocado and do the usual, cut in half, de-pit and slice or scoop the meat into a bowl. mush with a fork and ad a splash of lime juice or apple cider (any) vinegar. put in a freezer bag and try to remove all the air, and lay it flat in the freezer. you can break part off and defrost and put on your tacos, toast, salads.
Such a great tip!!
If you take a paper towel and layer your herbs, paper towel, herbs, paper towel, herbs, paper towel, herbs, just like that in a flat container it will last way longer than putting it in a jar of water. Oh yeah and wash spin and dry before storing
Brilliant! Thank you!
Buy or go to the library for a book called fridge love. Best book ever for storing produce.
Just added it to my amazon cart. Thank you!
Shine the foil. My mom taught me to cut the carrots or celery into sticks and store in water in the fridge to keep them longer.
Love these tips!
I don't know if it's true or not, but I read somewhere that nutrients will leach into the water. You could do it anyway and drink the water!
Here's another one: store cut avocados in an airtight container with a chunk of raw onion (cut). I will stay fresh for several days.
I am so glad I found your channel! I love all of your hacks.
I am so glad you are here!
When my potatoes start to sprout I cut off the sprouts and put the sprouts in a dark area in my basement or in my fridge. Then I plant them in the spring and grow new potatoes :) I of course eat the remaining potato :)
That is brilliant!! I want to live with you during a zombie apocalypse! So resourceful.
Just found your channel and am more than happy. I’m 75 and trying to move over to plant based, gluten free diet. It’s very stressful researching all the different sights. I found yours very helpful and easy. Thank you!
I came across your channel today. What an AMAZING FIND!!!
Green Bags are one of the best investments I've made~~they can last years and I almost never have to throw out produce now.
Where do you buy them?
@@plantwhys They're available on Amazon and Target has their own brand, tho I've never used those.
Your tips are great, btw.
For mushrooms I chop them then leave them on a plate a few days and let them dry out. Add to soups
Yum!
I just made the Banana Bread in my blender because it looked so easy! It was great - easy and yummy (I sprinkled mini chocolate chips on top). The blender was a tricky cleaning but all good! Smart to use the 9x13. Cooked in 22 minutes.
Yay! And to make cleaning easier, I soak it first for a few minutes and then it all rinses out.
Add water to your blender after the batter is out and blend. It will take it much easier to wash.
Great and surprising tips to me😮 I need to write all these down so I don’t forget or save video and keep checking it out ❤
Come back anytime!
I like to store my bananas in the fridge! The peel goes brown but the inside is still good. I dont care for banana bread.
I'm struggling to find space in my fridge now!! Need a bigger fridge😀
Ha ha I feel you on that one!
@@plantwhys With the heat and humidity here in QLD, Australia, so much more needs to be kept in the fridge compared to UK. All my nuts, and most veggies but Onions, garlic and potatoes!
These are great tips!
Glad you think so!
Hahaha, the ending is THE BEST! ❤❤❤❤❤
ha ha. Awe thanks!
Just buy Carleigh Bodrug's new book
Plant You Scrappy cooking.
She shows you how to use things that you didn't quite get to and she's amazing
She is amazing!! I have her book! So good.
Thanks 👍 Ali for these hacks. Frozen produce is good for reducing waste because certain produce for example broccoli 🥦 & cauliflower go off too quickly so I only buy it frozen now. Another awesome video from Ali and love 🥰 it. I buy carrots for salads but for cooked recipes use frozen carrots. Love 💞 Ali and family. Have a lovely weekend and week ahead.
Such great tips! Thank you!
Is there an alternative to using aluminum foil?
Also, if you can store the tomatoes on the counter (like the grocery store does), why can't you store fresh berries on the counter too? The grocery stores do...
Great point. My grocery store has berries in a refrigerated shelf.
@plantwhys 🙂 ...so. I was just wondering-- do you think it would be ok? Or would they ruin too quickly, according to your experience?
Yes, that is the historically correct pronunciation. Some Europeans use the "h" so either is acceptable but the word is "borrowed" from the French who employ the silent h. Just looked it up online. I believe most Americans use the silent h too.
Thanks!
Thank you for the tips. Instead of paper towel which is bad for the environment you should use reusable ones made out of cloth. Also beeswax wrap Instead of plastic wrap. I love your content. Thank you for sharing.
Great idea. Thanks for the tips.
Good hacks, but use dates or dare paste AVOID refined sugar. The body doesn’t recognize it as food just like it doesn’t recognize white flour as food.
Great suggestion!
Is it difficult looking in the lens? It was really distracting watching you looking up in the viewfinder. Anyway, thanks for the tips.
Sorry about that. Thank you for pointing it out. I will pay more attention next time. I use my phone to film so the lens is off in the corner and I try to keep my eyes on it most of the time.
@@plantwhys girl, I know it’s tricky with all these different filming devices. It’s just distracting when “whomever” is looking up, down, and especially to the side.
Did you call herbs urbs?
I didn't notice, because she probably did-- so, it was probably something I didn't pay attention to, because it is Common in some areas to pronounce it that way (a "silent h" phonetically). That is actually the "correct" pronunciation that I was taught In School lol and I am 54 years old... it wasn't until much later in life that I started hearing the word pronounced with the h being heard... which has always sounded strange to me lol
So, I have come to realize that it depends on the area, and even the country that you live in, that determines how you pronounce the word.
I live in Kentucky, USA.
But you can hear it pronounced both ways throughout my state, and throughout the country.... it just depends where you are.
Most areas in USA pronounce herbs “Urbs” in Europe the “h” isn’t silent. (According to my kitchen mentors Martha Stewart and Julia Child 😉)
Apples with bites out of them! Really? 😳🥴🤢
