"In the Presence Of" by Yes is a multi-part progressive rock track from their 2001 album "Magnification."
The song features a blend of symphonic elements and intricate musicianship, characteristic of Yes's style.
Its lyrics explore themes of spirituality, love, and the transcendental connections between individuals.
The orchestral arrangements, combined with the band's dynamic performance, create a rich, immersive listening experience that reflects the band's evolution and their continued commitment to pushing musical boundaries.
I hope you enjoy my content as I listen to mainly progressive rock music from the 1970s trying to bring you the best sounds around although I like most genres.

For the non-musician, the complexity of this one piece of music would generally not be comprehendible. Not to mention putting it altogether with an orchestra

Hi Kerrfoot. Thanks for adding a brilliant comment. I am in the same boat having been a very non average keyboard player in my time and one can only imagine how a piece like this is put together. Cheers. Dave ✅✅

I teared up a bit when I saw and heard Chris singing back up, what a beautiful voice. Chris and Jon went together like p&j

Hi again Cindy. The combination between the two was very underestimated as Chris gave some depth to Jon’s vocals. A great singer and bass player and such a loss.

Hi Jerron. Thanks for stopping by and adding a comment. Much appreciated. I definitely agree with you on that point as I was one of those guys up until recently. Still it’s lesson learned for me as there are some wonderful tracks that graced later albums that I am now really enjoying. Thanks again and all the best from Dave ✅✅

Thanks for this great reaction, Dave. One of my favourite Yes tracks of all time, up there with Awaken as a tear-jerker and seeing it live was an amazing experience. One of the few times that a rock band and orchestra blended perfectly. Massively underrated album. And kudos to the super-talented Tom Brislin featuring on keys.

Hey Simon. I missed so much of the Yes stuff after 90125 but welcomed the chance to get reacquainted. This is a most gorgeous track with many saying it’s their last greatest track. That I don’t know but what do know is that it’s an absolute gem of a piece and one I adore. Thank you for watching and your support. All the best. Dave✅✅

Hi Dave. There was still a lot of really strong Yes music over those later years. Mind Drive (both parts), Shoot High Aim Low and Endless Dream are all up there as 'classics'. Even 'New Language' from The Ladder is a really good track. 👍

Only recently have I begun to appreciate that YES attracted a very large following of fans who heard different aspects of their recordings that they _really_ liked the best. For some it was Jon Anderson's vocals. For others it was Jon's vocals and Rick Wakeman's very show-offish keyboard playing (many of these fans tend to see Awaken as YES' greatest ever recording)
While I always really appreciated Jon's & Rick's contributions, their contributions weren't the thing I heard that made me _super-enthusiastic_ about their early output. It was the way Chris Squire absolutely dominated their sound on the first five albums. That's what put YES on a pedestal for me, on a level that no other Prog band could boast of.
I'm a Led Zeppelin kind of guy who always liked rock music with a hard edge. Yes, early YES always had an appreciation for melody & those vocal harmonies, but it was that powerful edge that Squire gave their sound that I dearly loved. Yes, they produced amazing extended compositions that exploited all of the band members' talents, but Chris' bass playing was The Thing for me.
I would always eagerly look forward to it with each of their new albums & usually there'd be at least one song on the album where Chris was dominant, again, which sustained my infatuation with the band. To be honest, that infatuation gradually waned as Chris seemed to embrace a role as "just the bass player in the band" instead of being YES' most up-front featured performer. My love for the band now is mostly backward looking at what they achieved in those early years, a residual kind of appreciation.
Your video aroused my curiosity so I listened to In The Presence Of for the first time. Yes, much beautiful melody, but not really the kind of music I normally seek out. My second favorite band has always been Genesis. I only liked a few of their songs they produced with Peter Gabriel, but then loved everything they put out up to Duke. When they "went commercial" I tuned out. While Chris Squire was The performer in YES who made them special to me, it was Tony Banks' keyboards that I loved the most about Genesis during their peak period.
    Anyway, one YES fan's opinion.

Hi again Dave, fine reaction, have always loved this piece & the album Magnification. IMHO the best track on the album, also really love Give love each day, Dreamtime & the title track. The orchestral arrangements & integration into the band's sound is magnificent. And the tour DVD Symphonic Yes with Tom Brislin on keys & the European Festival Orchestra is sublime. Kudos to you for admitting your Yes snobbery, I think most of us prog boomers went through that, for me Big Generator was my moment, but years later in revisiting the album I heard more good things than bad or ordinary. In those 8 magical years from The Yes album to Going for the One they scaled a musical Mt Everest & took us along with them. Although it seems the last 44 years has been like a gradual descent from the summit there have been many smaller triumphs such as Magnification. I think we all need to be grateful for these!! Cheers

I think maybe I am a yes snob, but then again, just because they are the greatest of all time does not mean that every song is great or that you have to like everything they do.....every part of this live symphonic concert was epic...featuring the european youth orchestra, who were having a ball, especially with roundabout
