First of all: Thank you for all the positive feedback and the questions! And also a big thanks to CNET for featuring us!
We at Green City Solutions would like to point out that our CityTrees do not replace street trees at all, they complement them: Trees convert CO2 into oxygen, provide shade and are important for the climate as well as biodiversity. However, they can do little against air pollution caused by fine dust; studies show that photosynthesis and metabolism are even inhibited by dust deposits.
Also planting trees in inner city areas is becoming increasingly challenging. The ground is often sealed, criss-crossed by cables or tunneled and thus not suitable as a tree location. To ensure that newly planted trees thrive, sufficient root space, water, air and light must be available in a species-appropriate manner.
This is where the moss filters come into play: The moss that grows in the CityTree feeds on particles from the air and the water we supply and is therefore enormously powerful in reducing fine dust. It traps particulate matter, binds and 'digests' it, and even grows on it.
At Green City Solutions, we also support the planting of 50 trees with every new moss filter we install. It is important for us to combine regional tree planting (such as in Germany with the Green Forest Fund) with newly planted trees near the equator, such as with PrimaKlima in Nicaragua, where they have the biggest impact on the overall climate.
We hope this helps! In case of further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us or please be "our guest" at the next virtual moss farm tour. More information on our website.
    Gree(n)tings 🍃

Trees are great and we all want more of them in the city.
A sustainably healthy and effective tree, however, needs about as much root space as its crown is big. Unfortunately, this space is hardly available in urban areas. Cities are extensively sealed and shafts, pipes and cables criss-cross the ground. We want to be an alternative and have an impact where bad air meets many people and trees have a hard time.

I talked to these people some time ago. At that time they have just won a bunch of local and national start-up awards and they acted their manure didn't stink.
It also shows the main problem in German start ups: if you claim to solve an environmental problem, everyone gets a hard-on and will dump money on you, no matter how (for the lack of better words) economically and environmentally inefficient your solution is.

when they are able to incorporate this into something that has much more conventional economic value, their products would be treated as assets and cash outs on carbon offsets and as csr spending etc. their products would no longer be sought after for its idealistic branding purposes, but much more as practical tool to benefit people with abundant money.

They're just growing moss... No matter where the moss gross, be it in the ground, a wall, or in this wooden catastrophe, it will absorb the same amount of co2 per unit area. But in this case, now you have rotting wood, electronics, and the capacity of the system will fill up quickly. Not to mention nesting animals, weeding, the wasted water, and transport and application of nutrients. This is a head scratcher. Anyone that thinks more than 30 seconds about it's feasibility and how it's better than alternatives will not be interested.

@@henrymclean4911 Even if that is the case they are cutting down a tree (which cleaned the air) for decorative purposes to show how natural the moss is which required someone to DRIVE on logging roads which required them to chop down even more trees, and cut the tree down, then the logging company had to load and drive the tree back to the lumber yard, then the tree had to be cut then transported to the distributer, then shipped, then be sold and transported to the workshop where the pretty wood was lacquered and assembled with the moss just to create something that cleans the air of the polution caused by all the cars and trucks used to make the stupid boards for the display of an air filtering wall of moss. Hopefully they can find a better way to package it, but the wood casing is totally stupid. If it was rock it would have made more sense as rocks aren't known for their air filtration capabilities.

It is a biological process to remove the impurities (nutrients) from air. biological reaction rate is pretty slow. If there is no enough retention time in this "tree", the removal efficiency would be low. Another thing I noticed is the air in and out too close. This will cause short circuit. I am curious about the removal efficiency.

Its frame is wood from a tree that probably also houses moss effectively with zero manufacturing needed I’m not an expert but I find this a very roundabout and even counterintuitive way of basically transplanting trees into the city because manufacturing the thing will produce co2 so it feels like a retro futurism concept like if someone told you they could make a tree with technology inside to keep moss alive it would sound like some depiction of the year 2000 in an old magazine and the idea of adapting moss sounds very roundabout as well can’t they just propagate moss from high pollution which are definitely hardier in those environments from the get go

Abit pricey but 10000xs more effective vs pollution than even evergreen cedars& leylandi+ it absorbs around 250xs more Co2 as well& takes up far, far, far less room in congested cities. But I saw growing on the side of a macdonalds in chesterfield by the coach station seems better if that can be rolled out using methods this company& its colleagues have perfected for growing moss sustainably. My only question is what happens to moss after 10yrs its usual lifespan??, on peatland that are usually 12000 yrs old its mostly sequestered naturally.

    Environmental disaster by Tesla.
Teslas use more fossil fuel than gas vehicles.
A secret that Elon does not like to talk about.
Keep in mind most electric is still generated from oil or coal.
And Teslas produce more waste at the end of product life and has a shorter product life than gas vehicles.
Also each Tesla vehicle has a planned obsolescence policy, where vital components will NOT be upgraded or be allowed to be repaired DIY or by 3rd party.
Hence, making even battery replacements (which make up the majority cost of a Tesla) unpractical for older Teslas.
Expect parking lots filled with Teslas as the first gens will just begin to be abandoned.
