Finally, Filipino dance performances that don't include corny pop music in the background. I love authenticity.

+Ms Bird Those Filipinos abroad dancing folk dances with trashy pop music in the background are doing a poor job on preserving them (they actually claim they are "preserving" tradition by dancing them with trashy modern music, the nerve of them!).

Ms Bird I don’t know if you can claim authenticity on these pieces. Folk-based, yes. Cultural, yes. Authentic, ummm... let’s just say the Bayanihan is best known for theatricalizing and interpreting authentic dances from the field.
They are a marvel and a joy to watch by I would use authentic to describe what their pieces.

+Jake Lanuza What are the names of the dances in 8:30 and 12:50? Thanks in advance for the answers.

+Singkil Filipinas El cani is the name of the dance at 12:50 per confirmation by the Bayanihan Facebook admin. For the 8:30 dance which I do not know (my guess is either zapateado or bravo caviteno variation?), I am still waiting for their reply. :)

+Jake Lanuza Thanks for the reply, Sir. I have a question about the dance at 12:50 - does this mean that there are many variations of "El Cañi"? Because I saw other videos that depicted a very different version of El Cañi. I'll wait for the name of the 8:30 dance. Thanks again for considering my questions.

+Singkil Filipinas Like a musical piece, a dance may have different parts/movements. Interpretation varies. In Tinikling, there might be one pair or three pairs of dancers. So, variations exist. At first, I thought the dance was jota with the castanets clasped in their hands.
Although it is better to indicate the dance names/titles in the video, there are no repertoire available during the festival performance (unless we approach the performing group backstage). Upload time is also a constraint to indicate the dances on the video.
To get a definitive and correct answer regarding the dance segments on this video, kindly refer to the Bayanihan Facebook page facebook.com/Bayanihan-The-National-Dance-Company-of-the-Philippines-124862755974/?fref=nf

Nothing could compare with the original dance group from yesteryear. They were more precise and coordinated.

South and southeast Asian dances (looks Indian, Thai, Indonesian) connecting lights... finally culminating to our Pandango sa Ilaw. I love how this showed an evolution of light dances from main Asia to Oceania to our unique Ilaw dance. When the Rondalla came on, my skin crawled with pride.
