I used Celebrate brand "Treat Sticks" I purchased from the party isle in Walmart to make replacement pins for the switches which do not need to have one end flattened (like a nail). I cut four new pins from one of the Treat Sticks; each a bit less than 10mm long. They are about 4mm in diameter. The colored pack of 50 Treat Sticks fit the hole in the switch assembly better than the silver ones that were a bit tight. I used a box knife and cutting board to make clean cuts. At first I was concerned that the pins might fall out when the switch was depressed but they stay in just fine so all that is needed for this repair are strait 4mm dia. pins about 9.5mm long. The video shows the rest.
I just did this repair and I have to say it was amazingly easy. I will say a couple things.. when you get the button housing out of the car and take the circuit board off... be very careful with the 2 screws.. they are small and can be easily lost (I didn't lose mine but be cautious). When putting these small screws back in, I found it really easy to use tweezers to get them back in if you have FSS (fat finger syndrome) lol. Once you get the circuit board off, I thought you had to take the button on the front off to push the broken piece out of it's slot.. this is not the case.. just turn it upside down and tap them into your other hand. Thanks for this video man it was really good. I kinda wish you took a video of the whole process with walk through steps but I really appreciate you helping everyone out with this.
I think I can make those using aquarium silicone and drinking straws. When I remove the panel I am hoping there is at least one good one for me to have the dimensions. I would simply squeeze the silicone into a straw let it cure overnight then cut to appropriate lenghts , shape accordingly for fitment. I believe these parts are extensions of the switch which push on a microswitch on the circuit board. I'll have to see if thats the case before I do anything.
I need to do this repair, my driver-side button is not working. At the end of your video, you said it was trick reconnecting a wire and you used your fingernail. What wire exactly are you talking about? I wish there was a US supplier of the plastic part.
Hi, it was that little plastic clip-in wire combo for the buttons - there's not a lot of room there to get it back in, so I found if I lined it up I could use my fingernail to get it to click in again. I suppose you could use a tiny screwdriver to push it back in, but might risk damage
@@classicandclunker Thanks, I placed an order today. Right now the UP/DOWN button seems "loose," it has a lot of slack or wiggle in it. I'm hoping these will fix it.
@@kurtwagner1092 That does sound like the beginnings of the problem. Pity such a tiny part isn't made to last. The replacements I received seemed to be quite sturdy
I would prefer a talk through steps without the music, I dont follow the step by step, mine broke last night, need to replace the lil plastic white parts also.

They are tiny, though - good luck, you'll save some $$ if that works
