  • Pasta N More is a microwave pasta cooker that also allows you to steam food right in the microwave. Today I put it to the test, and also compare it to the Gotham Steel Pasta Pot.

I love that I can easily disable the loud beeping which announces the microwave is finished th-cam.com/users/postUgkxRDB_bcaZEIluKD5LMPVlvPAA2E1HbFNo No more walking up at 2 am when my roommate decides it's finally dinner time! Also, it heats food much faster than the microwave it is replacing. This surprised me, but it's great. The heat is even, and (so far) no problems. I only gave it 4/5 for small spaces, as I'm not sure I would agree to that. It fits perfectly in my kitchen, which isn't huge, but it would have been bulky in my condo. I am moving up from a smaller sized microwave, partly because popcorn didn't fit well in my old microwave. It will fit in this one.

Based on your review I got this product at Bed Bath and Beyond for $3.99 after clearance price and coupon was applied. It is the cheapest appliance in my kitchen and one of the best. I love not having to deal with big boiling pots of water and colanders. I've made spaghetti, pasta, corn on the cob, potatoes, broccoli, and they have all turned out perfect.

This would be awesome for a college student. Especially if you lived in a dorm with strict rules on appliances. You could prepare some really nice meals only using a microwave.

Miranda M I'd get a nice pyrex bowl. You'll get a lot more use out of it for much longer than this cheap piece of plastic. That's what I used in college and it works great.

For over the road truck drivers with microwaves in their sleepers, the Pasta N More would work good for making spaghetti and heated frozen Italian meatballs while out on the road. Not to mention, it's great for steaming broccoli and other vegetables in the truck as well. In addition to steamed shrimp every once in a while with baked potatoes. It might make a good addition to the truck.

The one good thing about cooking the pasta in the Pasta N More as opposed to a pot in the stove is that if it's in the microwave, you don't have to watch it. A pot on the stove could easily boil over. You can watch TV or do laundry or whatever and not have to worry.

    • @Mixwell1983
      @Mixwell1983 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Crowgrl Temprano you don't have to watch a pot on the stove either. Once at s boil throw in pasta and bring it to a boil and turn the heat to medium with the lid OFF. The problem with water boiling over is too high heat snd covering with a lid. The starchy water is what forms those boil overs.

Leaving a pot is never a good idea. Leaving a microwave that's on a timer doesn't matter much as it will turn itself off.

      @SwissMarksman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

How is it never a good idea? Ever made homemade stock? I wouldn't wanna stand 4h infront of that motherfucking pot.
Unless you crank up the temperature, there shouldn't happen anything.

    • @bevintx5440
      @bevintx5440 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

For the stove top, you have to watch to see when it starts boiling, or your pasta won't cook as fast as in the microwave. If you happened to forget it, you could even have your water boil to and have a pan meltdown. Both methods require prompt removal from the boiling water, but the microwave automatically beeps to let you know that it's ready.

Ten Reasons not to Use Your Microwave Oven
      1. Continually eating food processed from a microwave oven causes long term, permanent, brain damage by “shorting out” electrical impulses in the brain [de-polarizing or de-magnetizing brain tissue]
      2. The human body cannot metabolize [break down] the unknown by-products created in micro-waved food
      3. Male and female hormone production is shut down and/or altered by continually eating micro-waved foods
      4. The effects of micro-waved food by-products are residual [long term, permanent] within the human body
      5. Minerals, vitamins, and nutrients of all micro-waved food is reduced or altered so that the human body gets little or no benefit, or the human body absorbs altered compounds that cannot be broken down
      6. The minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free radicals when cooked in a microwave oven
      7. Micro-waved foods cause stomach and intestinal cancerous growths [tumors]. This has been a primary contributor to the rapidly increased rate of colon cancer in the United States
      8. The prolonged eating of micro-waved foods causes cancerous cells to increase in human blood
      9. Continual ingestion of micro-waved food causes immune system deficiencies through lymph gland and blood serum alterations
      10. Eating micro-waved food causes loss of memory, concentration, emotional instability, and a decrease of intelligence, which will likely cause one to continue to use their micro-wave oven
Most of the modern worlds population has known about the dangers of eating microwaved foods for decades. Americans are kept in the dark by greedy corporations, going behind our backs, and making sure the risks associated with microwaves are not known by the general population. Spread awareness people.

I have one of the Pasta Pots and More. I really love it. I use angel hair pasta and it cooks really fast. It’s terrible to say at my age I have a habit of letting a pan boil over because I leave the room for what I think is just a minute and the pan boils over. I never used to steam anything and now I do. I love it you know how long it should cook and you don’t have to worry about it boing over. Thank you for showing others this great buy.

For steaming, I just put food into a colander and set it into a pot of boiling water and cover with a lid. My colander fits nicely into the pot with about an inch of colander above the top of the pot. The lid doesn’t have to fit perfectly.

    I LOVE the Pasta Boat!
I used it constantly to cook pasta, never used the steaming function. It held up well until it fell out of a cabinet on to a hot burner one day and melted. Will be replacing it.

Thanks for reviewing these. I don't really like cooking pasta on the stove, but I absolutely LOVE the "Fasta Pasta" cooker. I was really skeptical when I bought it but I bought two of them b/c the prices was so awesome. Turns out that it was one of the best things I've ever bought. I used them both so much that I wore them out and ended up buying a new one when I moved. I can make pasta in about 15 minutes and the lid fits pretty tightly. I've also made rice in it, but the only draw back is that it has a ridge around it that makes the pasta hard to get out, so the Pasta and More seems similar, but it looks like a better design and looks like it might hold more.

    THANK YOU...I LOVE IT!!!
Don't know how I missed this when you first posted it. I haven't bought this one...yet. What I can tell you is that over 15 year ago, Kathy was hawking The Pasta Boat on TV. It was blue instead of copper colored. Due to an illness, I lost the use of my left arm. I loved pasta & was finding it very difficult to cook one handed with the pots available st the time, The Pasta Boat solved my problem. I have now been using my Pasta Boat for over 15 years & have cooked many a good pasta dish plus steamed many a good side dish & it's still holding up. I laughed every time you commented how difficult it is to use one handed as that was the only reason I bought it & continue to use it. No, it doesn't cook any faster than stove top cooking; but, I've found it safer to use & less likely that I'll end up burning the only good hand I have to use. I am excited to see that Gotham has chosen to reintroduce this product & will buy one to replace my current one which won't last forever...I don't think.
Yes, it's just a $20 piece of plastic; but, I paid $15 for my Pasta Boat which has averaged out to $1 per year of use & has saved me unknown visits to the doctor to treat burns to my good hand, I can't brag on the original item enough. Of course I'm assuming that the new item will be a good as the old one. The old one didn't come with a cookbook; so I'm excited to get new ideas on what & how cook new dishes. I love my Pasta Boat & hope the Pasta & More will be just as good!!!

I will say, something like this would be great in college. When all you have is a microwave, you can eat something other than ramen and buy cheap potatoes and broccoli. It would be great for a dorm. My exboyfriend, when he was in college all the dormroom had was a microwave and slightely bigger than average minifridge. For storing, not sure it would fit, but cooking would have been great.

I have a theory that normally you're not too savvy in the kitchen. That isn't a dig, and I may be wrong. Either way though, as a bachelor for the past few years i've gotten very lazy about my cooking and generally don't eat anything that requires more than a paper plate or plastic fork. your channel is making me want to be slightly less lazy! I may buy this pasta thing that looks super simple.

I brought the Pasta & More when it was called *The Pasta Boot* from the early 2000's & it was blue with yellow handles with red steaming trays. Still use it today.
One thing good with Pasta container is you can add the pasta sauce (or I use Wendy's Chilli with Macaroni) after you drain the water. Then heat up the sauce for 2 to 3 minutes. Pasta would still be fine since the sauce is heating up. Besides: *One less pot to wash.* Perfect for single people to have pasta. Store the leftovers in the container.

I bought this product a couple of years ago just to see if it worked. It did, and that was good. I didn't get the extra extender and lid. But as I remember, mine was $12 at Wal-Mart. I agree the thing is unwieldy. I would rather the handles didn't double as measures, and were detachable or smaller. This makes a good draining container for bacon or fried foods, and I have used it to steam rolls and donuts that have gone a little stale. Generally useful, not my favorite kitchen gadget, but I haven't gotten rid of it, which is my measure of how well it works. I toss things that don't work.

This was a good review he compared the pasta and more with a traditional method. The stove method is like any other typical way to cook pasta except it has a straining cover. That fact in the microwave you don’t have to watch and it gets predictable results is a good thing over the traditional method. Plus with the steaming he demonstrates purchasing the pasta and more might make sense.

I have a different brand, Fasta Pasta, and I think they were the first to come out with a microwave pasta cooker. It's made here in the USA. Since I bought it, I have never gone back to boiling water on the stovetop. First of all, I don't like being around boiling water and having to drain a heavy pot, second, the Fasta Pasta never boils over, so you don't have to constantly check on it. I never use the top when it's in the microwave, only when draining it. I think I paid something like $11 years ago for it, and it's the most used kitchen helper in my stash. I use it constantly. They have two different sizes ,regular and family size. They're basically all the same. Best small investment I ever made.

After this review, I bought a Pasta N More and I just love it!! We steam veggies almost every night and it's GREAT! The one I got doesn't have the cookbook. This company needs to publish a vegetable steaming guide. Will it do rice as well?

I have a Tafura Spaghetti Cooker and it microwaves spaghetti in 12 minutes. I'm having some right now. It's come out perfectly each time I've microwaved spaghetti in it. For less than $20 it's pretty good.

This is a perfect tool for college dorms. They only really have microwaves and for safety reasons burners are not allowed most dorms, so for people who want to cook, this is a great alternative.

It's a great review! Just a tip, run the cold water while pouring boiling water down the drain, and it will prevent steam burns.

I bought my pasta and more six years ago. Still almost same but bit cheaper then. It is like new even though I use it two times a week. Thicker pasta needs slightly longer. No need to watch or stir!
Some times I throw in pasta sauce and heat it with cooked spaghetti. No staining. Washes easy and so much light and easier to store. It made big difference to me. Much easier to use if older lifting pan with water. Using microwave instead of stove is easier.
Have to say truly: best product I have bought of this type. Bought mine at Walgreens and I would buy it again but don't think I will ever need to.
PS I have tried this out and has held true several times. Get large microwave bowl, water, pasta, cook 18 min and perfect. Cheaper method accidently found out!

I got one like that for school, it red though. I do go to college. I only use it for spaghetti. It's really hot. The one I have says to cook the spaghetti with the lid, and to fill it up to the first line. I only do the one severing size and I don't use the handles to measure it, I use my one spaghetti measure. You also have to check your microwave power, because if it's too high, the water will boiling over and the lid with get burned from the water.

I have the Pasta and More, it works wonderfully. Also the 18 minutes is for about 4 servings though it is poorly stated in the instructions. You can easily cook 2 servings of pastas in about 8 minutes with a 1000 wat microwave.

They have metal steamer inserts out there for the stove pots so. Also all pastas will take the same amount of time cause they all are cooked by the water. Just the stove heats the water a different way then the microwave.

James, when you steamed that broccoli I thought of how my mother used to serve it. which I loved as a kid and still do. Drizzle some olive oil over the hot steamed broccoli and squeeze some lemon juice over it. And maybe just a touch of salt and pepper. Thats Neopolitan Italian broccoli.

I was given a past n more a few years ago. I like it. it's easy. I mainly use it so I can just throw it in the microwave and walk away and do other stuff. it saves me a pot AND strainer. since it doesnt really take up much more room than a strainer in the dishwasher. mine is blue. haha

I like my Pasta N More, after getting the hang of it, it isn't all that bad! The steamer is alright but doing it the old fashioned way is better tasting. When you steam using the Pasta N More, you have to put the top on that has the drain holes on it. I tried asparagus in it and it overcooked very quickly, simply because the microwaves penetrated through the drain holes and started cooking the asparagus before the water could get hot enough to steam. But for cooking pasta it is great! It does get incredibly hot and you have to be careful when removing it from the microwave.

I just bought one. I looked at what the box of spaghetti said is two servings (since I was cooking dinner for me and my mom) and weighed that amount on my kitchen scale. It was approximately half of what the handles of the pasta n more show as 2 servings. Having to watch my carbs due to being diabetic, I went by what the box of spaghetti said was 2 servings.

It doesn't need to beat a pot in the stove. The point is you can cook food in the microwave better. For people who don't have or can't have a stove or hotplate it's a god send.
I got one when it was still called "Pasta Boat" when I lived in a rooming house where fire codes meant we couldn't have anything like a hot plate or toaster oven.

Where I think the pasta more pot would be a little more effective, by doing the pasta in microwave, it frees up a stove eye or vice versa, you can still do your pasta on stove and use steaming part in microwave, either way it's freeing up another stove eye

Interesting idea to compare and contrast two "as seen on TV" devices for the same cooking item. When I cook pasta, I cook it in a simple pot, but I add salt to the water as most Italian mothers will tell you to do, (only salt, NEVER oil to the cooking water). Then when cooking the pasta in a pot, adding a little of the pasta water to thin-out the perhaps-too-thick tomato sauce to serve with the pasta. Also, adding butter just before plating the hot pasta. Then when plated, adding the ideal thickness sauce and the fresh-grated cheese, (brocolli or shrimp cooked separately and added when cooked just before the sauce and cheese, (only the finest cheese and only a little cheese if you're Sicilian, otherwise no cheese added to shrimp or fish pasta dishes, my mother told me, so it must be true!) All kidding and cooking tips aside, another great review. The option of adding a second item, (like brocolli), to the Pasta N More seems a little impractical given the different steaming times. Your cooking device reviews are among your best! Thanks for this one.

I think the 'Pasta'N' More is great! It's been around for years. Does it have to be brown? That might be a deal breaker.
