Hi Kevin! You went for a great acoustic upgrade for your Taylor T5z. I have had a several top hybrid guitars that one can get and my T5-S is my current one that I do not call a guitar with best current acoustic sound, but due to great hollow body, it is the most potential guitar for the best acoustic sound. I also am thinking about upgrade and have learned, that piezo in good body is best answer, mostly for this kind of guitar. I love the fact that you can do something about aditional acoustic pickup, but that´s kinda where the adventure ends. Meaning, were you planning also of some upgrade for electric pickups, or are you happy with them? Thank you
Kevin,I picked up the Anthem SL for my T5z. So far I have drilled and installed the end pin. I also installed a 2nd battery compartment on the back plate. I will be installing the saddle piezo and mic this week. Not quite sure where I'll be putting the Vol. Control yet..
I decided to keep the volume control on full all the time. Hi, ended up covering the F holes with clear packing tape, which cut down on Feedback quite a bit.
How easy was to install the pickup? I am having the same issue, not very satisfied with the acoustic sound, I will try to isolate the bass frequencies as well and remix the signal back with everything, I use a quad cortex.
I experimented with a few spots, the bracing underneath the top is a little different compared to other acoustics, it's worth trying out a couple places
I have a 2015 T5Z custom.Im very curious about adding the Anthem SL. It's not something I could do so I assuming I'll have to hook up with a Certified Taylor Luthier? I'm wondering if you have a video on the how yours was done? Do you need a separate battery or does it tie into the Existing battery? Do you still use the Taylor Tone and volume control? If not where does the new battery and Tone controls go? And I see the SL comes with guitar jack so I guess you can remove one of the guitar strap ends. And lastly, I'm going to assume you would use an A/B/Y switch to go between the two pickup systems? I really dig the sound of the Baggs over the standard Acoustic sound. I would appreciate any further info.
so many questions! i'll try to tackle them all - i did the install myself. simple hole under the bridge to install the element piezo, and a hole drilled for the jack, i have it installed close to the factory jack so i can plug them in together from the same location - the volume control and battery are held in the guitar and not easily accessible, im thinking of adding a battery door, but the volume control is never really needed - no aby box needed with the helix/hx pedal system. all of the switching is done internally. i highly recommend a modeling system rather than using a traditional amp with this guitar
Thanks tor replying.sorry for the # of questions but I’d like to do this. I’ll probably pick up the SL for xmas. I think the best bet would be to make another battery door, you’re right. That’s for the info. I tune into your fblive you’re awesome. I’m attempting to slowly work in looping to my gigs.
@@kevinsingssongs I’ve had an acoustic system installed for years. First, with my T5-C2 Koa, and now in my T5z Custom Koa. I removed the battery compartment, which is only held on by 4 Philips screws, and put it inside the guitar with Velcro. The second battery, which powers the LR Baggs Anthem (Not SL) is housed by a pouch and some more Velcro. What does this do ? It gives you an opening in the back to attach the now fully accessible LR Baggs Anthem preamp/controls. The full anthem has a battery check button, a vol, and a blend for the Tru Mic and pickup Element. I use the LR Baggs pickups for looping and the T5 onboard for playing leads and fill rhythms. I didn’t think anyone else did this. I use the TC Helicon PlayAcoustic for loops, and so far I haven’t found a way to record and loop both because one seems to cancel the other out when you try to use a splitter, and the only input in the back is 1/4. If you want to beef up and authenticate your acoustic sound, I highly recommend the LR Baggs Align Series EQ and Session pedals. Night and day difference.
I still have it, but the Behringer flow eight is much more flexible and has many more features. I actually recorded the audio straight into my phone for this video from the flow eight.
Had to look up the correct way to say piezo after hearing OP say it pi - zo. I say it pee ay zo but also pee yay zo is correct. To be fair I’ve never actually said it, I’ve only read it my whole life.

It's there a way to see how you did the install
I'm saving for a T5z right now...I played one and...it sang to me

Hey Steve how did the installation go? Would love to see photos or a video if you have, thinking of trying this as well

This helps a lot thanks
No problem!

it was very easy, the LR Baggs Piezo is very thin, and you may not even need to modify the bridge height
Great intuitive work to get your tones. Where did you position the microphone part of the SL?
I experimented with a few spots, the bracing underneath the top is a little different compared to other acoustics, it's worth trying out a couple places
Hey Kevin,do you think it would be possible to run Anthem SL off of the existing T5Z battery? Maybe tie it into the wiring?
I ended up trying that, and it works, the battery just drains a little too quickly for my liking

Great video! I want to do the same with my T5. Do you have acoustic string or electric? Cheers.
electric- they intonate better on the t5z bridge
Why’d you get rid of the EAE?
