They’re both my favorite players and players of said characters so although I was rooting for Dom as the underdog, I know Byleth is quite decent in this matchup so Dom really had his work cut out for him. Especially when said decent character against yours is literally the #1 player
Yeah haha. I was hoping Dom would clutch out the win, but I was really happy with how he played (game 2 was a little rough though, not gonna lie xD). Aside from game 2, the games were pretty close and both players had to really work for it.
I'm a complete Leo stan and I especially love his Byleth, but I wish the commentators talked about his opponent too. Even when Dom was playing well and made good plays, the commentators just kept talking from Leo's perspective it made me feel kind of bad lol
I do get where they're coming from. Dom attends MSM every week and he's won quite a lot of them. They don't see a top player like Leo too often (excluding MSM 240 ofc).
6:46 This is the most impressive Leo play of the set for me. From using his first up b for the slight hover and distance, to the slight delay in recovery to time his recovery to the position of the cross, and then tethering to the side of the stage instead to double jump and weave between the projectiles, and then simultaneously grabbing both the holy water and hitting Dom with his back air to fight back onto the stage. It's such an advanced multi-layered process to find a way back to the stage as well as regain stage control. Holy hell what other player in the world possesses both the intellect to recognise that line of play as well as the skill and confidence to execute it flawlessly.
Good grief Dom's ledge trapping here was incredible. Leo did an amazing job weaving around the projectiles as well they both have immaculate control of their character
As amazing as Leo is, Dom's ledge trapping is INSANE. I doubt any of us would have been able to get back on stage once with all of the schemes he plotted
He is using a character that has the perfect tools to ledge trap with. Dom is good at ledge traps but his character is kinda carrying that position. I want to see him use another character and see how he good he does ledge trapping.

Every time I watch him I'm just amazed at what he can do with this character. Still dom really did great. It's great character accuracy on Sakurai's part, I'm sure most complainers have never played a castlevania game, the only complaint I have is the up B, in the original game it went way higher.

Dom is actually so fire. The way he holds leo at ledge in the first game is spectacular. That being said, leo is the sauce god, drag down up air with byleth is literally broken I guess. The way leo spaces around dom's projectiles off stage is impeccable.
I went to see Dom's stream after this and he said he had no idea how to fight a good Byleth, since its such a rare character competitively. I can definitely see Dom matching Leo's byleth toe to toe enough to push him to use Joker (Since thats a bad match up for Ricky). Leo's quick adapting and Dom's lack of knowledge of the match up definitely worked too much against him by the end of the 4th match. I still remember their last match which was online with Leo's Greninja. Dom's mastery of Richter goes further than this but for now im sure this was a good lesson for him. I remember Yink giving him trouble and labbing for weeks till he got that matchup down, now its time for Byleth labbing. And for a funny tidbit. He said because he cucked Leo with the bottle he had to taunt. You live and die by the funny I guess. lol.

Everyone who has played Leo has gotten even better. I am glad Dom got the chance too play Leo. Also this was Leo last week here. So now he is on too the next step. He might come back after who knows. He looks like he has been having fun.

Byleth is a good character. I have mained them since release. It's not just Leo being Leo, it is actually a great character that has an answer for most situations except being juggled. Go ahead and keep sleeping on Byleth if you want to get bodied. He killed Chag's Palu at 20 earlier in the tournament.
I have always believed in this character. Doesn't matter if they are "slow" if they are already where they need to be to control the stage. The Up-B buff was just the icing on the cake.

Even that worst move is still just "better Warlock Punch" imo (faster, can turnaround, still has super armor, breaks shield in one hit, etc) Plus Byleth can just come back from anything if they save the jump. Also, Side-B offstage is kinda like Ganon's nair or up-air because it really traps people into this "nowhere to go" situation that the commentator mentioned in this match. I get that this was vs Belmont, but this kind of edgeguard trap also works on Ness/Lucas, Peach, Puff, Ken, Joker, PT, etc especially if they airdodge.

No, Byleth is not a zoner, and does not rely on setups and traps. Other than spacing tipper aerials, their gameplan in neutral is completely different than the Belmonts
