My mother is a professor in SCU, I was born in Huaxi hospital, then entered the kindergarden primary school middle and high school all attached to SCU in Wangjiang, so nearly 20 years of my life is in this campus, love it so much.
I studied at Sichuan University from 1979 to 1983. It is nice to see that the university has been changed so much since my graduation. Thank you for this vlog.

So many memories came back, my girlfriend was there and I was in sichuan normal university, still remember every corner of the universities and those weekends running between two sides of the city by bike. All of sudden, already graduated for 14 years.
Sichuan normal university falls way behind compared to Sichuan university. But for Chinese students, they still need to work very hard to enter Sichuan normal university
Chengdu is an amazing city and I have lived here for more than 10 years after I graduated from Sichuan University. Glad to know you enjoy living here too

4-6 people live in a single room may surprise many people in western country, what can surprising you further is the dorm fee is only 100 pounds per year, that is less than what you paid for a week. With all people live in the small room, there is basically no privacy at all, but tge students are getting familiar with each other very quickly, and we regard each other as brothers, the talk before the sleep is also very interesting
There are a lot of students in China, so it is inevitable that many people live in a dormitory. And our understanding of privacy is different from yours.

OMG, Oni the campus of Sichuan University reminds me of the type we have in Malaysia where there is a real university community with affordable living quarters and every shops within walking distance. I got my Doctor's degree in Comparative Literature and World Literature from Sichuan University in June 2017. My doctoral supervisor is Mr. Cao Shunqing, a famous Comparative Literature scholar in China and an Outstanding Professor in Sichuan University. I am very lucky to be a part of Sichuan University.
One of my criteria for choosing Univesity in the UK is the nightlife. How many pubs in the neighbourhood and night club. I should have chosen a Chinese University for my undergraduate studies, I wouldn't burden with massive tuition fees.
There are 4 or more people in a university apartment in China. It is difficult for you to have personal privacy, but it is fun to live with friends. Even though I have graduated for a long time, I still miss college life

As a student of SCU, I want to correct you some mistakes！7:57 You said Huaxi and Jiangan campus are primarily for undergraduate students. Actually the Jiang'an is indeed mainly for undergraduates but the Huaxi is primarily for MEDICAL students, who are undergraduates in their junior year or senior year and mostly, the graduate and doctorate students. Also Huaxi is not a new campus. It has a very long history. It was founded in 1910 by the church organization of US, UK, Canada and some other countries(as you can see the architecture of that campus has western features). Initially it was called West China Union University, then West China Medical University and was incorporated into Sichuan University in 2000 as the Huaxi(literally means West China) campus. Now this campus is also called West China Medical Center of SCU where medical students study. Its dental medicine ranks top in Asia.
But the exam of entry university is very tough, when you think the competition for one billions population... good university good job . the entrance rate of Prestigious uni is from 5.8% to 1.1% ... maybe study abroad is a good backup in case of failed to get access these uni
When I was in my college in China in 1980s, there were no tuition frees. Actually gov paid college students for living costs. Some students could even save and send home some money. China began to charge tuition fees in late 1980s in the name of reform, and the fees became a huge burden for families and got big objections in China. Chinese gov froze the fees since 1990s. Due to inflation and quick income increases in China since 1990s, College tuition fees are affordable pretty much for every one. Another big difference between China's universities and US universities is that the tuition fees for medical schools are the same for any other majors.
The government gives subsidies to universities every year, not only for construction. If you study well, the scholarship is about 8000-2000 RMB. That is to say, if you are very smart, going to university is almost free.

Glad to see this video as a formal student in SCU. It really brings me back to the good old days of undergraduate life. I actually am a Jiangsu student, SCU is thousands of miles away from my hometown but the experience there makes me understand that youngesters from all the districts can share a lot in common, live in harmony together and bravely go for completely different futures after graduation. I suggest every college student to cherish your university life because it is a time that you can make most friends of the same age without much concern of real world's profit conflicts. The moment you aware that the farewell at graduation could be the last visit of most of your classmates, no matter familiar or not, in the previous 4 years will definitely make you wanna turn the time back to the day where your university life just began. *Correcting a tiny mistake, the building opposite to the foreigner students' dormitory is called 'comprehensive teching building' which is used for teching but not a library.

This is a great vlog for allow us - I'm in US to learn /to get educated about China's U system... the cost is amazing, subsidized by gov't, whereas in US, not, only in scholarship.. No sharing of dorms - which makes it much higher is cost.. My question, can a foreigner learn as much Chinese and learn enough to make a living in China after graduation, that's the goal to go school/university, to make/ and be able to support yourself... oh no, i feel homesick!!! i used to live nearby and hang out with friends on campus very often. my bicycle got stolen there
@Hoy Sum yes it's generally safe but scams and thieves exist in every country. there was no shared bicycle 20 years ago so the thieves targeted university students' fancy bicycles. i live in vancouver, here we see news on stolen bikes on campus at start of school year all the time...

Everything seems to be better in China
One of my bosses told me he’ll go to Shanghai, I trie to tell him to download wechat since they don’t use money there. He’s like I’ve been there in 80s before you were born...so he knows everything. I laughed inside and he came back from the trip and showed me the pictures he took and things he saw. Sometimes you can’t communicate with ppl never been to a place but full of opinions.
True, I have been watching a lot of foreign youtubers who were either studying, working or living with families in China and their videos were all really amazing showing different cultures and lifestyles over there . Will try to make a trip to China { any part} when the travel restrictions are more relaxed!

OMG, my hometown, my university, I studied there 7 years for my undergraduate and graduate school, I aslo grown up in the campus due to my father is a professor of the university. Love every inches land there, the cafeteria, the water lily pond, the family-run dumpling restaurant, and the fragrance of the Chinese peppercorn. Thanks for sharing!!!

Glad to see this video as a formal student in SCU. It really brings me back to the good old days of undergraduate life. I actually am a Jiangsu student, SCU is thousands of miles away from my hometown but the experience there makes me understand that youngesters from all the districts can share a lot in common, live in harmony together and bravely go for completely different futures after graduation.
I suggest every college student to cherish your university life because it is a time that you can make most friends of the same age without much concern of real world's profit conflicts. The moment you aware that the farewell at graduation could be the last visit of most of your classmates, no matter familiar or not, in the previous 4 years will definitely make you wanna turn the time back to the day where your university life just began.
*Correcting a tiny mistake, the building opposite to the foreigner students' dormitory is called 'comprehensive teching building' which is used for teching but not a library.

This is a great vlog for allow us - I'm in US to learn /to get educated about China's U system... the cost is amazing, subsidized by gov't, whereas in US, not, only in scholarship.. No sharing of dorms - which makes it much higher is cost.. My question, can a foreigner learn as much Chinese and learn enough to make a living in China after graduation, that's the goal to go school/university, to make/ and be able to support yourself... Love from Atlanta, GA.. My son is about to enter college/U, I want him to have this type of exposure.. I'm born in Hong Kong. I need to make a visit to HK/China.... Please keep the videos coming...
