I can tell by your accent that you live near me in the South Carolina low country. I’m located in Myrtle Beach and was searching for a previously owned falcon on Craigslist. I’ve been ripped off TWICE now. 😔. I bought my first bird from a guy who would only meet with me in the Brew Ha Ha’s parking lot. At first I loved his bird. It was so gentle and quiet. The bird came with the little hat and everything. But after purchasing it I waited three days for it to wake up and NOTHING! So finally I decided to take off its little hat and visor. Only then did I discover that it didn’t have a head. The hat was literally sewn onto some animal’s torso. I’m not even sure if it was ever a bird to begin with. Upon further inspection I was appalled to realize that the animal’s magnificent feathers had all been Scotch Taped to the pelt.
I was very skeptical of the second seller and demanded that wake the bird up. I was relieved when the bird became animated. It was an angry foul beast but the seller was confident that the bird was just having a bad day and was usually a late riser. So I bought the bird. I was so excited about my new falcon and posted pictures on my Instagram. It turns out that my bird isn’t suitable for the sport of falconry. Again I was duped. The bird I purchased doesn’t even fly. It looks like a falcon but it’s usually not trained to fly. It isn’t so much a sporting bird. My friend Ming’s parents own the Wok In Laotian restaurant and daycare center in Myrtle Beach. They identified my bird as being of Asian descent. It is called a “Peking Falcon.”
Anyway, Ming’s parents bought my falcon from me. How do a I get a real falcon like yours?

    Great video guys!
I have developed similar techniques for training my falcons and hawks, and I like how responsive your bird is to the lure, almost as a goshawk 👍
I was wandering what speeds did you get out your birds in level flight without help of the wind, and how your falcons compare to goshawks and eagles?
I haven’t flown eagles, but my friends that do fly them have said that they are slower than my peregrines, but as fast or even faster than goshawks!
I have very fast and persistent goshawks, but all my GPS data suggests that they are noticeably slower compared to my peregrines and gyr x peregrines.
I was wandering if that is also the case with your birds?
    Cheers 🍻

Hi buddy, my white gyr can do about 50mph in a straight line over about 400m, my old goshawk was quicker to accelerate but couldn’t maintain speed over long distances 😀. Never look what the eagle did but she’s quicker than a hare. 😀. Hope that helped mate

@@Hawk-riders Thanks for the replay mate!
I find your results very interesting because I have always thought that the pure Gyr is faster than the peregrine in level flight (I have never flown a pure Gyr, only Gyr x peregrine hybrids). The highest speed I have measured in level flight, with no wind, was for my immature peregrine female, she was chasing the moving lure and for a brief time she was flying at 119 km/h!
The highest speed coming to the swinging lure from 500 meters was 102 km/h with my male peregrine, and no female was faster than him coming to the swinging lure (he was trained only for waiting on type of hunt).
My goshawks were going on average around 70 km/h in the hunt, and on some occasions they were flying 80 km/h for short periods of time.
I'm very glad that you guys are making a versatile falcons, and that you hunt with them in a "goshawk style"! I have thought that I'm the only one doing that :D
Keep up with the good work, cheers!!!

Many thanks for such good comments. In many species or even subspecies there is a large variation. I saw iberian goshawks from almost martens to almost falcons, and, gyrs may vary from almost gos to almost pers.

    Hi Joel
    Great video.
Do you fly your gyr/saker during the summer or put down to moult ?
Im curious because I understand the gyr doesn't tolerate heat well, compared to a saker.
Would like your opinion because I am thinking a saker would be better for me.
    Thankyou

hi Chris gladed you liked it, yer a fit gyr-saker would be ok, I try not to fly any falcon if it's really hot. but yes the higher % of gyr the worse they get in the sun. but they will still do great,

Hi quick question just wondering could a falcon live tethered if he is flown once a day and sits outside on perch in the garden during the day when someone is home for his safety. Would bring him into the house at night as it gets very cold outside. Is this possible?
