    Interesting all electric crossover, but Toyota definitely made some odd design choices in the interior. No glove box, the instrument panel and steering wheel, and the shifter are definitely misses in my opinion.

    • @cbatiau2528
      @cbatiau2528 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree ... lots of positives here but I agree about the lack of glove box, and the instrument panel sucks, and I'll add that the piano black is also horrendous (as in all cars, and I don't get why any automakers put piano black in their interiors... should be matte black)... I like the retention of buttons, the lack of roof glass opening, and the fact that there are opaque covers for the roof glass. I wish that all BEV designers would make frunk space for a full-size spare wheel/tire, however; that's a big fail in my book...

      Instead of glovebox there is a heater for your legs :) some type of infrared heater + the shifter weirdness is IMHO really close to Prius solution where you had to make similar movement to switch D to R and back.
      TBH I really love there is an option for solar roof on this vehicle, even if solar adds a tiny bit of range and powers your AC, it's a nice alternative for a typical glass roof.

    Nice looking car, which seems to be very well thought out for practicality and space etc. Though 250 mile claimed range is perhaps a bit behind the latest competition. Re the Piano Black Gloss - I I think the P.Black looks great in almost any car (that's why they all use it of course) … yes I know that people say it gets scratched, but frankly they must be very careless (my car is 6 years old and the P.Black is still all perfect … and certainly doesn't look “cheap”). One thing though - does this car have a Head-Up? (because I find my HUD great … I hardly ever need to look at the main info/map screen … for me the omission of a HUD probably would be a deal-breaker for any new car that I'm ever likely buy). Great review as always from Thomas (of course!).

    Thanks, Thomas - as always, a thorough, well-presented, neutral 'walk-around' review 😎
    As others have also commented, from the world's largest manufacturer, this really comes across as a half-hearted attempt at a European EV - though, perhaps not quite so surprising considering Toyota's absolute 'refusal' to date to accept that fully electric vehicles will become the future 'norm' and not hydrogen...! 🤨
    Although, unlike the (sister car) Lexus UX300e, at least this EV doesn't get Chademo charge point connection...!! 😮

      Its not surprise that Toyota refuses to accept that, as it is quite unlikely for now. The logistics behind switching majority of cars to electric is simply way too big. Its all fun for now, when most of the cars are still fossil-fueled powered. Won't be that fun if the percentage starts to climb above 50.

      Just imagine how much more electricity your country would need to produce to be able to charge the cars at the same time if all of then would be switched to ev right now. There is also the problem of what to do with the surplus power production during off hours.
      Current ev batteries are also using resources that are not common, which is problematic for full ev future.

    I feel like the BZ4X is a huge miss for Toyota. They are late to the market versus the EV6, Ionic 5, and Mach E, but they have worse range, worse performance, worse charging speed, and (IMO) worse design. There are also a lot of head-scratching things about the design of the interior (like the wheel/ gauge cluster positon) and the copious amounts of piano black. And then the design itself feels like a step back from the RAV4, which had a really great design.
    IDK... I've been a fan of Toyota my whole life. My first car was a 4Runner and my second car was a Tacoma. But this just feels like a big whiff.

      It might be worth looking at the WLTP figures - the Toyota gets close to the RWD Kia EV6 with a smaller battery - 77kWh compared to 71kWh!
      The bZ4X charges at 150kW and gets from 10 - 80% 5 minutes slower than the EV6/Ioniq 5....
      It may not have the 'wow' numbers but it's a very efficient car which more than enough for the European markets.

    I mean i am a toyota fanboy, but even I have to admit that this car is a complete fail. The ouside is just so ugly, it's hard to describe. The interior... I mean who puts a full piano gloss black on the entire armrest? Its ugly, and after a year will be COVERED in scratches. The center console is ugly (again, full piano black) and I want my buttons back. This tesla style crap with one screen to control almost everything is horrible from a UX perspective. This car is stupid in so many ways and I am dissapointed in toyota. They need to fire the entire design team that was in charge of this turd🤮
