Great dialogue here between Columbo and Hollister. I like the double meaning towards the end, the killer thinks he's already way ahead of Columbo yet in reality Columbo knows he's got him when he lied about having that precious gun stolen from him.
A very smart and devious question from Columbo at the beginning when he asked about why most of the fishermen go at the morning and he is coming back .

I always got a kick out of this scene with Columbo fishing off the dock while wearing his trench coat and the fishing rod looked like a kids toy lol Eddie Albert was a WWII Veteran and Hero in real life.
All these years I thought Mr. Douglas was a former stand up New York lawyer, then a gentleman farmer from Hooterville. Instead he was a cold blooded murderer.
Nothing gets past Columbo, but it's just stupid to admit to a crime like this. Basically telling Columbo you've found your killer now just prove it. Over confidence is their downfall.
I've seen this episode before but I could not remember seeing the grim scene at 1:30. I wonder if that got edited out as it was broadcast during the day on British TV?

I just realized that at 4:44, Columbo tilts his fishing pole up rather that reels it in... if I am not mistaken, meaning he actually had his hook just below the water.
From memory, the General was committing some fraud regarding construction contracts and the investigators implicated the Officer, so he was 'silenced' to try and stop the trail leading to him. Something like that.

Yup ,you could take the entire family out in the 70s for a small percentage of the weekly wage ,we've gone so backwards its now clown world.

This could be on a DVD box and the extended or edited parts got put back in for DVD sales, you know never before seen on TV bits.
