Thanks Mark, great video on a great pattern. My wife and I spent our honeymoon at the KOA chalet in Wilmington and fished the W.B. Ausable and visited Fran's shop. We revisited many times. Fantastic place to fish and quite the learning experience, an entomologist dream. I have three flies tied by Betters, a Wulff, Haystack, and a Green Highlander as well as some materials to tie his other flies. Also two of his books signed by him. All treasures along with the memories of times spent there. I think my favorite is the Usual, fished just as he said, pulled under during a drift elicited many takes for me. You tie just as he discribed to me, "just make 'em buggy, Joe". Thanks for continuing his style and posting your videos, I've just subscribed.
I live near the Ausable river. There are no long A's in the pronunciation sable isn't pronounced as the animal but a soft a sound like in saab. Nice tie.

Totally agree about not stacking the calftail. Looks good!
Superb Mark! I've got some Cree hackle I haven't used in a while. Tying some up right now.
Cool!
Great fly, Mark. Well done and great video.
Great video! Keep them coming!

Sure is a nice fly. Thks
Thank you for an excellent video. Can you suggest sources for buying the woodchuck guard here?
try www.flytyingfurs.com
+Mark Wittman Thanks for that link - I'll give them a try.
Very nice! I’m subbed!
If I don't have woodchuck or "whistle pig" hair for the tail, what may I substitute? Will deer or elk hair work?
I would try some fine deer hair, it would be close in color
Thanks Mark. I'll give it a try.
